Technical Support / Re: How to backup and restore Protoshares-qt wallet?
« on: November 24, 2013, 12:38:41 pm »
Can a Linux-Qt client read a Windows-Qt client's wallet?

Yup.

Maybe the software is used on bot nets so is getting picked up as malware?

3378
Are clouds still cost effective for pool mining pts?

I have 0.7 mining fine on a Xbuntu i5 laptop. Just using the addy and 4 as parameters.

Went from ~51 c/m to ~78 c/m.  Not sure if those stats are comparable between versions.

Using the sphlib on my FX-8350 using 7 cores (1 saved for cgminer) I went from ~140 to ~180 c/m.  So far stable but only at 10 valid 0 reject.

Second question...which is more about the nature of ProtoShares: If I import my PTS privkey into the PowerBall DAC wallet have I "spent" by PTS or just gained access to a clone of them in the form of Powerball DAC shares leaving me free to also import my PTS privkey into the next DAC and the next one and the next one and....?

The great thing about PTS is that you get shares in every DAC that honors the PTS contract! You don't lose them, you just get shares in the new DACs that are released, and then you keep your PTS!

Maybe I'll start buying some up  8).  Given the potential they seem dirt cheap right now.

WTH? Am I banned or something?
http://ptsweb.beeeeer.org/user/Pu9jKnnjZvNZ52WrVLda84SLMb1grvTBR5

My shares don't appear anymore, despite the fact I've added several workers (maybe 10-15) for few hours, just to test. And my 0.3 pts were paid despite not reaching the 1 pts threashold.
Do you seriously think I'm operating a botnet or something?! With 15 computers?!
Please unban me!

Thanks.

Read back a few posts.  The payment threshold was lowered to 0.33 due to the diff change.  Your link looks just fine.  The payment rule at the top hasn't been updated so I can understand why it might seem odd if you weren't following this thread.

Interesting.  Since the DAC genesis block would be poured from the ProtoShares block chain it seems a PTS holder would be getting a piece of the action right from day one even if they didn't do the import until later.  Cool.

PowerBall, DAC is a lottery within a lottery.

We are using it to test out concepts for lottery-based mining by implementing an Unmanned Lottery Company whose lottery tickets are PowerShares themselves.

And ProtoShare holders start out with a matching set of PowerShares as a share in the DAC and a share in the recurring chances to win - thereby demonstrating to one and all how ProtoShares will actually work.

Absolutely poetic!

 :)

As a holder of ProtoShares do I automatically get a piece of the action of the Powerball DAC with no action required?  If this is the case than I'm starting to understand the value of being a PTS owner.

Once someone wins and the DAC pays out its shareholders their cut how would that payment look?  Would I need a separate wallet for PowerShares or would I receive an amount of PTS to my existing wallet/address?

Hi All,

Im waiting for the protoshare-qt connect to the ps network to take my wallet up to date since 30 hours.
I can not start to joint to mine until it my wallet is not success.
I added all ip-s what I found on the forum.

Anyone can add the ip wha I should add my protoshare qt?????????

If you're pool mining (vs solo mining with the client) you don't need the protoshares-qt to be sync'd.  Just need the address to pass to the pool.  Your payouts will show up when the client finally gets a node or two and can sync.

Is there any information online on how to do this. I see there's a backup function but no restore.  Noob.

Technically you can dump your private key and write it down somewhere.  However all you really need to do is make sure to 1) encrypt your wallet and 2) make a copy of your wallet.dat file found in %AppData%/protoshares on Windows and ~/.protoshares on Linux.

The wallet.dat file is small and fits easily on usb sticks, SD cards, etc.  Make a few copies of it and keep them in different physical locations (home, work, etc.).

It is also important to understand that you should refresh this backup of your wallet.dat file at least every 99 transactions.  The reason for this is that the wallet starts out with a pool of 100 key pairs that are used for transactions that require new key pairs.  When you have burned through your pool of keys the wallet-qt client will create an additional 100 keys in the pool.  At this point you would need to refresh all your backups of your wallet.dat file so that the new transactions using these keys are backed up as well.

If you need to use your backup simply install the client somewhere and copy your wallet.dat back into the directory you backed it up from.  Once the block chain catches up you'll see all your transactions.

You can keep your wallet.dat file off line all the time and only drop it into a client data directory when you want to do a transaction.  It doesn't need to stay in sync with the network until you're ready to do a transaction.  None of my wallet.dat files with balances stay on a computer for more than the few minutes it takes to do a transaction.  Even the best hackers can't steal a file sitting on an SD card on a shelf  8).

Think of the wallet.dat file sort of like a SIM card for a cell phone.  It's the only thing that matters...the rest is just generic hardware/software.

Really?  I started mining last night, and have had no payouts.  I checked the root access and it looks fine.  I wonder if I did something wrong...

It only pays out when the balance is greater than 1 PTS.  What's your c/m?  This was my last payment:

I got a payout a few hours ago. All seems well from a mining perspective.

General Discussion / Re: Pre-order a Keyhotee ID

Because the purpose of Founder's IDs is to be generous and get credit for your contribution for starting this whole thing.   It is more of a reward for donation than anything else.

That makes sense.  Thank you  :).  I'll be donating.  I watched the short Youtube video on the idea behind the Keyhotee ID and think it has a lot of merit.  If I get my chosen name cool otherwise I'll just be happy I played some small part in seeing this grand plan come to fruition.

I do have some concerns but they probably aren't any different than what others have expressed in forum posts I haven't delved into yet.  Please don't feel the need to respond if this is being discussed elsewhere; I'm mostly just musing.  The Keyhotee ID creates a single point of failure.  If for whatever reason my password/private key is compromised my entire online self is compromised.  Currently if, for example, Amazon.com gets hacked my exposure is relatively small.  Though I suppose one could create several Keyhotee Ids and use one for banking, another for online shopping, another for online forums, etc. but that seems counter to the vision of an ID as a brand and single sign on for our whole internet experience.

There are currently ~70 Founders, however only about 25% have paid.

Cool, that's good to know.  I was thinking in thousands but I suppose this is still a pretty obscure concept based on an already obscure concept so the pool size is understandably pretty small.

You mentioned elsewhere about an earlier bid being worth more than a later bid.  I am not understanding the specifics of that.  Let's say I donate 15 PTS to get 'Riverhead' today and on December 23rd someone, for whatever reason, bids 20 PTS to also get 'Riverhead'.  Do I lose outright or does my early bid somehow count for more than their last minute bid even though it's worth 33% more?

I guess what I'm really asking is why donate now vs waiting until December 20th?

Nice, now it's cost 10 PTS!!!
http://invictus-innovations.com/founder-sign-up

That's just the minimum bid to enter the auction.  I see you have "testz" as your Keyhotee ID.  If I understand how this process works it's not yours until you're confirmed as the high bidder for the ID "testz" on December 24th.  Someone else can still get it if they outbid you. As the bidding is currently private you won't know until you lose.

At least Stan has offered to email us to tell us if we lost and give us a chance to pick another name.  By the time we get to emailing about collisions the pecking order should be cast in stone and your second choice should stick.  My guess is you'd have to respond to the email in a short time because if the pecking order is set they can't offer the next in line to pick a new name in case you pick one someone lower picks thus generating another collision (though you could cause a new collision by bumping out someone lower rank than you with your new choice).

Maybe a public anonymous auction would be better to prevent such a scenario.  Or maybe there are few enough Founders that collisions will be rare?

If I have this completely misunderstood please set me straight.
