Technical Support / Re: Segmenting Account Connections?
« on: June 04, 2017, 10:45:53 am »
Regarding seeds, you can move some of accounts to a new wallet and generate new keys for the accounts in the new wallet.

Is the way an account name is moved to another seed, by importing a backup?

Technical Support / Segmenting Account Connections?
« on: June 04, 2017, 09:15:28 am »
I have a lifetime account with sub accounts.  They all have the same seed it seems.

Is there anyway to segment those accounts, with different seeds per account?

Are all those accounts seen as 1 account on the block explorer?  Meaning any transactions done on 1 account are able to be connected to the other?

Technical Support / Moving A Sub Account To Another Main Account?

I have a lifetime membership account.  I have some accounts made with it.  Now I need to segregate business accounts from personal.

Is it possible to move some of those sub accounts into the business top level account?

Technical Support / Re: Memo Key?
« on: June 03, 2017, 07:12:54 am »
So if I understand correctly:  With any transaction, I can attach a memo, basically a text string?  The receiver &  sender can read the text string, but nobody else?  While the memo is attached to the transaction, the private key that unlocks the memo can't send any coins from the account?

Am I understanding it correctly?

Technical Support / Memo Key?

Newbie question:

What is a memo key?  And what are some use cases for it?

Hello,

Quick question on accounts & wallets security:

If an account is compromised, meaning the brain key or backup file is leaked, does that expose all the wallets the account holds?

Conversely, I assume, if a wallet brain key is compromised, only the funds in that wallet are lost. The hacker could not get access to the other wallets without their corresponding private keys.

Is this correct?

Technical Support / Current Options For Signing Transactions Offline?
« on: June 01, 2017, 10:05:16 am »
I need to be able to sign transactions from wallets on cold storage computers.

Currently, I can see that I can import the keys into a hot wallet and spend them.

But...

Is there a way I can sign a transaction, sending the coins, without the private keys ever leaving the cold storage computers?

General Discussion / Installing Bitshares On UBuntu?
« on: May 31, 2017, 08:11:22 pm »
I'm new to Ubuntu.  Please help me out here...

I'm logged into VirtualBox Ubuntu 17.

I've downloaded the Bitshares .deb file.

I double click on it.

I see "bitshares-light"  + an "install" button.

I click on "install".  Nothing happens.

What am I missing?

General Discussion / Re: Best Way To Secure Bitshares In 2017?
« on: May 29, 2017, 07:33:53 pm »
I'm no security expert, but from my understanding  I think lack of randomness is your greatest risk in a brain wallet.  You can't use a phrase found in any book, song, movie...or anything that would subject you to a brute force attack.  It would truly have to be random string of words.   (And then forgetting them seems like a significant risk.)
