General Discussion / Tax on ATM cash withdrawals
« on: May 06, 2015, 07:47:12 pm »
From Agora Financial's  5 min. forecast:

"And we Americans complain about ATM fees: Greece is about to impose a tax on cash withdrawals.

It's not official yet. The buzz is it'll be one euro for every 1,000 Greeks withdraw.

For the Greek government, it's a two-fer: It discourages people from cleaning out their bank accounts in a panic, thus shoring up the finances of Greek banks. And it could generate as much as $202 million in revenue -- maybe enough for Greece to meet the next interest payment on its bailout loans later this month.

It's still not official yet. The European Central Bank has to sign off. But seeing as the ECB is one of Greece's creditors, is there any doubt?

But wait... If it's not yet official, what's to stop anybody from cleaning out their account in advance of the directive becoming official? And what would that do to the banks' finances?

Grab the popcorn... "

General Discussion / Rounding in DEX causing problems

It looks like the DEX price being quoted at 6 decimal places rather than 7 is causing some people trying to buy MOONFUND at the ask price to not get their orders filled (ie. Buyers are offering 0.869565 rather than the true ask price of 0.8695652

The other thing that the Europeans and Russians (and Chinese) have decided to do is to de-dollarize, with all due haste, without however precipitating a convulsive, global shock that creates a world in total crisis.

So they are taking down the dollar a peg at a time, notch by notch. The announcement today that Germany, France and Italy plan to join the new Chinese-led, Asian development bank, following on the heels of a similar announcement by the British last week, suggests that a quiet decision has been made to take down the USSA dollar.

Greece Folds (Again); Ready To Propose "New" Reforms Immediately
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-03-09/greece-folds-again-ready-propose-new-reforms-immediately

Following earlier comments from various Eurogroup members - after yesterday's dismissal of Greece's proposed "reforms" - ranging from Slovakia's "Greece needs to face the naked truth," to Dijsselbloem's "we seem to be losing time on Greece," and Schaeuble's "not a lot has happened on Greece," it appears Greece has quickly folded once again and acquiesced to EU's demands for harsher cuts. With cash unlikely to last more than 3 weeks and being unlikely to get the EU1.9bn in bond profits from the ECB (according to EU officials), Greek officials have stated that they are "willing to enrich" the list of reforms.

Some helpful comments as leaders arrived at today's Eurogroup meeting:

*GREECE NEEDS TO FACE NAKED TRUTH, KAZIMIR SAYS
*SAPIN: GREECE NEEDS TO WORK `SERIOUSLY' ON ECONOMY PLAN
*IFO'S SINN DON'T SEE PROGRESS IN GREECE SITUATION
*SCICLUNA SAYS EXPECTS MORE COMMITMENT FROM GREECE
*DIJSSELBLOEM SAYS `SEEM TO BE LOSING TIME' ON GREECE
*SCHAEUBLE SAYS NOT A LOT HAS HAPPENED ON GREECE
*SCHAEUBLE SAYS GREECE MUST REFRAIN FROM ONE-SIDED MEASURES

And this...

*GREECE UNLIKELY TO GET EU1.9B FROM BOND PROFITS: EU OFFICIAL
*GREECE'S CASH MAY LAST UP TO 3 WEEKS, EU OFFICIAL SAYS

As Bloomberg notes, Greece is willing to add more reforms to proposed list...

Eurogroup must remain political body, shouldn’t discuss technical details, a Greek govt official, who asked not to be named in line with policy, said by e-mail.

Greece seeks political progress in today’s meeting; govt willing to enrich list with other reforms, some of which will be directly submitted to technical delegation: govt official

Reforms suggested concern govt’s 2015 budget: govt official

Greece is working in best possible way to meet commitments to its euro-area peers, while respecting Greek people’s dignity: govt official

3 reforms that will be submitted to technical delegation, not included in first list, are reviewing past income tax declarations, cross-checking triangular transactions, incentives for collecting receipts: govt official

Technical Support / v0.6.2 won't sync
« on: March 06, 2015, 06:40:43 am »
I was unable to log in to v0.6.2 so I uninstalled and then reinstalled v0.5.3 and imported my wallet. I then downloaded v0.6.2 and it would start syncing but then freeze. I would restart it and it would sync some more before freezing again. Restart and it would sync some more before freezing. One more time and I got it synced up to block  1792783 where it stays even though it is not frozen and has 12 network connections.

I have now tried restarting it 3 times, but it stays at block 1792783 (19 days ago) despite having many network connections.

Any advice?

Turkey Warns "Speculators Will Be Burned" As Lira Collapses To Record Lows

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/05/2015 11:05 -0500

The Turkish Lira is down over 4 handles again this morning as the currency's collapse accelerates exponentially. Having devalued by 30% year-to-date amid Erdogan's rage against central bank independence, selling its gold, threats of jail for not cutting interest rates, and rising repression of increasing social unrest, the country's Economy Minister took to the TV today to expose the "hidden currency war" and blast 'speculators' (because only a speculator would pull his capital from such a 'stable' place) - "The manipulation of those who play with the dollar will explode in their hands and their hands will be burned."
