General Discussion / Re: Airdrop concerns with Lottoshares
« on: May 27, 2014, 07:03:15 am »
It was later discovered that FreeTrade gave himself 207,000 MMC of a 760,000 premine that was to be split amongst PTS holders and MEC "contributors". He never disclosed that he would receive 27% out of the gate.  He also refused to admit it, until multiple members of the community put continued pressure on him. In the meantime, he used these coins to further attain more MMC through 2 blockchain paid positions.

fucked up if true

anyone else care to weigh in on this?

Hey guys I think actually this already existed and it's called "stealth addresses"....
All we did is add name->key mapping on top =(

haha nooooooo! a bit tragic for sure, but TITAN/SATAN still sound awesome even if another implementation of stealth addresses already exists... and personally im happy to hear that this innovation is in development for the bitshares ecosystem

http://badassdigest.com/2014/05/23/edgar-wright-off-ant-man/

Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on ANT-MAN due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.

Is this the beginning of the end for Marvel Studios being cool? Edgar Wright, who has been on Ant-Man since Phase One, left the project today. He isn't the first director that's parted ways with the studio close to production, but none have been as involved for as long.

This feels like a real bullshit move on Marvel's part, and it's only going to reinforce the idea that the studio shies away from using filmmakers who have personal visions. What's more, it's just crummy that this process could last this long and only now does the studio have a 'difference in their vision of the film'?

The cast will stay the same, and I imagine some version of the script by Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish will remain, if the studio is looking to hit next summer's release date. The big change is that the interesting, visionary filmmaker behind it all will no longer be involved. Good luck to whoever they hire to Brett Ratner this one.

such a bummer, not really looking forward to this one anymore  :'( :'( :'(

DAC PLAY / Re: Nothing but a Lotto DAC Business Graph

I feel a bit bad about not commenting on your plans and work HackFisher, which might make you feel like you're talking in the void. Thing is I really find your project one of the most promising and interesting DACs, honest gambling is a real big thing I think, but I'm not a gambling man and have no opinions to give from that perspective. I do have a decent grasp of the basics in probability math and statistics, but alas that is also the reason I'm not a gambling man and don't really believe in luck.

So don't let the lack of comments discourage you, there is support for your efforts, just not much in way of opinions.

 +5%

IMO, this DAC is the sleeper.  It has the potential to be HUGE right out of the gate.  While other DACs need time to build users, BitsharesLotto will have immediate users.

 +5% +5% +5%

keep up the good HackFisher

http://maxborgesagency.com/

Max Borges Agency is a PR firm interested in this technology. They might not understand it as well as Dan/Bytemaster but who does? They seem to understand Blackcoin well enough to handle PR for that community so why not contact them and find out what they can do for the Bitshares community?

The Blackcoin price has been going up recently and so far Max Borges Agency has had a good start.

Also they were willing to accept some of their payment in Blackcoin which is a really good sign in my opinion.

That's actually really cool, and also a great PR move by the firm. It reflects very well on Blackcoin that a legitimate institution (outside of crypto, even better) has enough faith in the product to accept Blackcoin as if it were cash! I wonder how much of their payment is actually in Blackcoin? even if it is an insignificant number, they can still truthfully make the statement so it probably doesnt matter too much

outsourcing PR to an agency as luckybit suggested, or even meeting with a consultant for a while and hashing out some processes to use in the future could be a good choice while you guys build the capabilities to do it yourselves

for sure. im really hoping for youtube DAC with incentive structures in the vein of bitshares music pops up for those of us who do use crypto

ive been thinking about the revenue sharing service for artists that perform cover songs the article mentioned and it seems sorta cool. All kinds of talented singers already post videos of themselves performing covers, and now they have further incentive to post higher quality content, which is obviously great for youtube. the copyright holder (read: big records) wins because a well produced video that goes viral can become a catalyst that boosts sales for otherwise unpromoted IPs. this move could also help facilitate the talent discovery process for record studios as well. Theyre always looking for the next pretty face with a great voice to create more music(intellectual property)to cash in on

As far as I see, Dan has made one major strategic decision so far: to defer the development of bitshares (btsx) in favor of creating a new consensus system (DPOS).

 ...

here is a question i have: i see the value in upgrading PTS to DPOS, but what advantages does DPOS provide for future projects like LOTTO, DNS, and ME? Blockchain sustainability for sure... but if that is all, then perhaps most of these projects could have been launched on regular blockchains and then upgraded to DPOS at a later time. But perhaps developing DPOS will give critical insight to developers that will greatly improve their future projects. Who knows? Not this guy.

The other major strategic decision was to re-architect the bts x code to make it easier to make the rest of the other DACs, which is the other half of the major delay. So we get the rest of the DACs faster and the $$ advantage of DPOS will be multiplied by however many DACs would have launched in between the non-DPOS release and the upgrade.

awesome, thanks for filling in some of the gaps toast

General Discussion / Re: What do you guys think about Darkcoin?
« on: May 24, 2014, 08:11:50 pm »
thanks for the insight johncitizen. i wont pretend to know much about the nuances of these algorithms but i do find it very interesting that darkcoin is performing so well in light of an instamine and a flawed design...

quazar looks cool. i havent mined anything in a while but i just might have to put the ol' CPU to work again!

thats kinda neat... too bad we'll probably have to use google wallet to donate

Without actual data, its hard to do any real analysis. If NXT is an indication of the future, it would appear at least some of the market wants to move away from mining. if this trend continues, which i believe it will (again, no real data), then developing DPOS appears to be a good move.

on the other hand, sticking with the original bitshares plan wouldve gotten the flagship product to market much faster, which could have been huge! But honestly, btsx seems pretty damn complicated. even if the software made it to market quickly, would invictus have had the capability to effectively demonstrate the products value to the market? it is hard to say, but im leaning towards no

As it stands, bitshares is having a hard time gaining trust/traction. Whether it was intended or not, i think releasing better versions of products that people are already familiar with (dpos, lotto, dns, etc) could go a long way in creating trust and increasing the user base before the big experiment is released.

i agree with jae, i think at this point in the game Dan's technical insight is critical for the role of CEO. as the landscape grows, CTO might be a better position for him, simply because he seems to enjoy software/systems development more than organizational development.

in the spirit of the callout, i held back some of my excitement about PTS getting upgraded to the DPOS chain. its a fantastic move and the price reflects that. Stan, hyperbole and rabble rousery aside, you definitely should have approached the conversation differently, and im glad you acknowledged that.  keep it simple stupid is right! i think by proposing both ideas at once you made the deal too complex for users to easily digest. i would offer that this confusion undermined the value of the DPOS announcement, which wouldve been more impactful if announced separately. at any rate, whats done is done and i hope that you will draw on this experience in order to better capture value from announcements you might make in the future

real talk, if there's one thing this message board is missing, its some good old-fashioned internet shitposting.

but really, i think it would be great to get some more casual conversation going on the boards. the technical talk is stimulating but ive also found it can be divisive and seriously draining at times. i think moving the forum up to a place where it will get some eyeballs represents a realopportunity for users to connect with eachother and become invested in the project on a more personal level. tempers flare, investors scare, but there is always solidarity in shitposting.

also, im sure there are a few casual users out there that can't hang with some(any) of the fancy tech talk. us regular folk deserve a place (near the top, of course) to chillpost kittens in peace

EDIT:as a veteran newb, i also request that the newbie board be moved to discussion as well. putting the newb section in an area where it will actually be seen by first time visitors would probably lead to an increase in new user signups and engagement. I recommend moving tech support to make room for newbies. Anyone invested enough to need tech support is gonna scroll down to fix their issues. A first timer is not invested whatsoever, and is far more likely to lose interest if he/she has to exert any effort in order to find meaningful interaction

awesome work guys. this may seem like a strange request, but would any of you guys mind sharing some newer photos of the office, your workstations, or maybe a pic of the recently united crew? i know yall are busy and its an exciting time... but im excited too damnit! I wanna see some of the cool stuff thats happening over there, and i know im not the only one! Plus photos are very... tangible and can go a long way in helping people feel connected to a project or experience
