General Discussion / Re: Kevin Harrington and St. Martin

i hear you Adam. I've been a bit puzzled as to what Brian has been doing behind the scenes as well

it seems like he goes to meetings, produces educational videos, and helps get webpages online

unfortunately he has been ineffective at generating buzz on the internet so far. he has also not been very effective at brand management either; the ecosystem is about as complex and confusing as ever and the release of Invictus first real product is more akin to an open beta than an actual launch. our most popular and effective way of promoting the BitShares ecosystem, this forum, is neglected in terms of marketing. updates are scattered, stickied content is out of date, and new users are still forced to participate in a multi-day scavenger hunt  in order to figure out WTF is going on. this is not good marketing, nor a well crafted message, and I doubt Brian would disagree

but to be fair, BitShares' incredible complexity is not Brian's fault by any stretch of the imagination. one of the biggest challenges facing BitShares, and ALL crypto for that matter, is communicating its value to the everyman. it is clear that invictus does not have the manpower or the knowhow to do this, YET...  But really, no cryptocurrency does, not even bitcoin.

in light of this latest news, i think its pretty obvious what brian has been doing behind the scenes; catering to bigger fish. and to be real its probably the right move. a partnership like this gives invictus an opportunity to focus on its core business, developing software, while letting other people with proven marketing expertise step in and make the products and brands friendly and accessible. i am willing to bet brian will also leverage this opportunity to learn and build marketing capabilities internally as well, he'd be crazy not to.

i am beginning to see brian as more of a biz dev guy than a true blue marketer, and frankly i think those skills are much more important at this stage in the game

i do wish Brian would engage with users on this forum a bit more, and i wish he would put a bit more effort into making relevant information easy to find on here... but my complaints aside, this is still an early stage startup and there are only so many hats a guy can wear at once

fantastic news

i agree with your last point, but the products are already being pushed anyway regardless of having full functionality.

While i3 may not have control over google page rankings, a link to that website could easily be made available on the original bitshares domain. It could also be stickied in any number of subforums on this website. It could also replace the outdated AGS banner at the top of our forums. Never going to achieve visibility if that link is buried in the forums, as number 1 pointed out

Agreed, it either needs to be replaced or removed. Right now it just looks sloppy imo

http://bitshares-x.info/ is beautiful and easy to follow. I agree 100%, http://bitshares-x.info/ should be swapped with bitshares.org as the main point of referral.

While the complexity of the BitShares ecosystem is a part of its beauty, it is extremely difficult, if not impossible for most new users to grasp everything at once. Quite frankly new users should never be expected to do that. http://bitshares-x.info/ is simple and straight to the point - more importantly it looks trustworthy AND shuttles users directly to a tangible, working product that they can actually download and use themselves right now. No vague promises of what BitShares will become, just a free product anyone can download right away without having to do any digging.

the latest update in the "BitShares X Status Update Thread 2.0" from BM:

Quote
BTS X with bitassets is now implemented and functional, but we are working on a few last minute market security features.  The basic code for DPOS + TITAN + Asset exchange is now stable enough for a MVP release of the toolkit to developers such as DAC Sun Limited and others.

We will continue with dryruns with the latest market functions on the XT chain.

BM - if you have a chance would you mind copy+pasting this post into The Important Update Thread sticky in general discussion? its a solid update and it might be useful to have some current information stickied on such a popular board

That site looks like it is behind a pay wall - however you can sign up for a 30 day free trial if you would like to watch it for free :) - unfortunately you will have to provide CC information,  paypal, or a bitpay account

I'm always a bit let down when I see a service like this that doesn't take BTC.  I came across this site hide.me via a banner ad on coinmarketcap.  They offer a dozen methods of payment, all which require your identity.  The FAQ addresses this, but meh.  AFAIK it is just a huge honeypot.  IMO the whole thing is borderline laughable.  I understand this when BTC wasn't available, but it is ubiquitous online now.

Another problem with BTC is that is so difficult to have a subscription model, but thats not a good enough excuse.

edit - sorry for being chronically off topic.

wow, i completely forgot to mention they accept bitpay as well - my mistake

I think you nailed it wesphilly.

There have been posts regarding AGS on BTT, reddit, these forum, and on the official website for months. This information has been updated and published once again to all of those platforms over the last 2 weeks in order to push this information and make it as public as possible.

But you're right. This seems like it will be the extent of promoting AGS before the deadline, and I'm pretty dubious of it's effectiveness.  Leveraging online communities to spread a message can be very effective... but what's the message? Frankly, it's scattered, unclear, and confusing. So that's what the community spreads, a muddled message. It is no surprise that some interested parties lost interest because they were either confused or skeptical, but either way they give up in frustration.

There's a lot to learn about just AGS, let alone the entire BitShares ecosystem. It's complex, overwhelming, and unintuitive. Most new, groundbreaking technologies are. The challenge is to make the applications of these technologies easy to understand, and more importantly, desirable. I had read more about BitShares than I ever read any of my textbooks in college. A hefty  time investment is required, and that investment is the only reason many of us on this message board understand the applications of BitShares... or at least some of the implications of the applications  :P

But that's insane, and one cannot expect everyone to do that. And they should not have to. We needed messaging that was clear and stupid easy to understand and it just wasn't there, and it still isn't.

Sure, we might be able to look at all of the money raised and deem it a success. And to be sure, as a whole, AGS has been successful. Unfortunately, I cannot help but think that AGS would have greatly benefited from a more coherent marketing push, at least on the western front.

how about in multibit client?

In order to extract your private key from multibit, you must export the .key file using the Export option in the multibit client

once you have extracted the key, you must open it in a text file. note: you cannot put a password on the exported file if you wish to view the private key
