General Discussion / Re: crypto news sites

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2amlwa/do_you_vote_on_rbitcoin_articles_you_absolutely/

I would definitely try to get articles on the 3 sites which have been reported as "Trustworthy" according to the top comment in that link.

Coin Fire
Coindesk
The Crypto Crimson

Hehe you're welcome. :) IMO best workaround is to preselect issues and enhancements here and then creating issues in git after discussing in this thread.  My 2 cents

I have also been wondering at what point issues in this thread might be worthy of Github. I think discussing them in this thread like you suggested is a great start. I would not mind adding a lot of these issues to Github, but at the same time I would like to avoid flooding the issue tracker with unrealistic suggestions or bug reports that are not well documented

is there a way to sign up and help with edits on the wiki?

i'm finally getting around to giving it an in depth look and I am seeing a few minor grammatical errors. I have also noticed that the BitShares blog hyperlink on the lefthand menu goes to the bitshares.org home page, rather than the blog page.

if there's a way for regular users to make edits i would love to help   :D

Absolutely!  Toast has a very active Skype group for that.   PM us your Skype name and we'll add you to the group.

Thanks for offering!

sweet. Gamey had actually invited me to the skype chat a couple of weeks ago but it completely slipped my mind, so thanks for the reminder!

Hello and thank you for the feedback!

Some questions:

1. How do I "fund" my account and register it?
2. How/Why/When do I use the Import Wallet feature under Advanced?

1. Right now, you have to go to the dry run thread (https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=5523.0) and request funds (XTS) from someone already on the network. You then use a very small amount of funds in order to register. This method of registration is temporary, and will be replaced with a free registration for new users in the future. Users will need an address to send these funds to, so don't forget to include your Account Key in the post (don't worry, this is NOT a private key!)

2. From what I understand, you will use the Import Wallet feature to import PTS wallets, and also to import PTS and BTC wallets which have donated to AGS and will receive a stake in future DACs (BitShares X, Music, Lotto, DNS, etc). But as you pointed this out, the feature is currently unfinished

my 64bit has never worked either. I'm hoping that is on purpose and they just don't want to call me stupid. The reason I say this is because they only thing people say to do is delete appdata folder and install. After that my report is treated like it didn't happen.

Hello! First let me apologize; I should have followed up with you in the feedback thread where you first posted this issue. I stopped responding because quite frankly I didn't know how else to help you at this point  :'(

Still, I am sorry to hear that the beta client is continuing to give you problems. The good news is that the development team is extremely active on these boards and you can expect the beta client to be updated again soon. While I cannot be 100% certain that the next version of the BitShares beta client will fix your exact issue, I can tell you that making the wallet functional on modern Windows and Mac devices is a top priority for the dev team. After all, if people can't open the client, how can they use BitShares?!

Dealing with issues like this can be pretty frustrating for both users and developers. But rather than give up in frustration, you chose to take the time to submit a bug report, and for that I would like to thank you. I hope that you will stick around and check out future iterations of BitShares, as there is a good chance your issue will be resolved in the near future. I know waiting probably is not the ideal solution, but sometimes that's just what us regular Users have to do while the devs do most of the heavy lifting behind the scenes  :)

Hm, all images are all vectors made by me
Quality looks fine to me. Can I get a screen shot of what you are seeing for comparison?

oh cool, very nice work man

I just messed around with Vimeo a bit - turns out the jaggies I described are only an issue when watching the video in HD in the default,  non-fullscreen view. Maximizing the video to fullscreen fixes the issue I was describing. Turning off the HD option fixed the issue as well. I'm guessing Vimeo downsamples HD videos that aren't being viewed in fullscreen or something like that.

Anyway, it appears to be a non-issue after all :D thanks for responding and im glad some of the feedback was helpful!

triple post!

just wanted to say that the animations are fantastic, easy to follow, and go very well with the script.

and one final suggestion: at around the 28 second mark you finish saying "private key" and there is a few seconds of down time til the animation zooms in and you begin your next sentence.

i do not think private key is a well known term among most people. maybe you could use that blank audio space as on opportunity to fill the knowledge gap by adding something like

"you can only lose control when you choose to share your private key. This is very similar to sharing a password and should be avoided."

her thoughts: "cool, but the first part about domains and DNR or whatever was confusing"

after rewatching it a few times, i really agree with her. the video is very clear and easy to follow, except for the first sentence!

Quote
What is dot p2p. Dot p2p is a decentralized top level domain, and an alternative to the traditional DNS system.

i think you could cut that down to:

"What is dot p2p? Dot p2p is a new alternative to the traditional DNS system."

without losing anything, simply because you go on to explain the advantages of decentralization in much clearer terms right after that anyway

just watched this w/ my gf

her thoughts: "cool, but the first part about domains and DNR or whatever was confusing"

me: i thought it was great, my only gripe is that the images dont seem high rez and so they appear jaggy around the edges

i made a post asking them to remove it on bitcointalk, but a dev post might be more persuasive

I was told by someone whose opinion I value highly that reddit has it so that if a post gets several upvotes in the first 10 minutes or less, then those votes are weighted much higher than upvotes that trickle in later.  So if we want to start seeing stuff posted on reddit, it would be to our benefit to somehow time the upvotes to be around a certain time.

Apparently some guys got banned over this after a warning, but they were really trying to game the system.  Some starcraft thing.

yeah good point. i think as long as we keep our posts and upvotes genuine we have nothing to worry about as far as that goes. upvotes on BitShares links in general tend to trickle in slowly

one suggestion: would you mind updating the OP with a list of relevant reddit posts when you have a chance? that thread in the original post is practically ancient as far as reddit is concerned  :D
