Keyhotee / Re: When Can We Start Mining Our Idenity?
« on: April 03, 2014, 09:56:17 pm »
Regarding mining, I heard Bytemaster mention in his earlier talks that the time to mine an identity would be targeted at 1 hour on a regular desktop machine. Where does that leave keyhotee cellphone clients?

Will we have to mine on a desktop and then transfer our private keys over to phones (nasty solution)? My assumption here is that 1 hour mining time on a desktop is equivalent to many hours on a phone.

There could be lots of mobile social apps that sit on top of the keyhotee blockchain (i.e. a properly secure WhatsApp), but this couldnt work if mining an identity is too expensive on mobile.

Bitusd was conceived to combat the market volatility of bitcoin, but, the recent US ruling that bitcoin is property projects bitusd to the only cripto currency that can be used as currency.

This is our chance right now, not in a month when someone develops software to automatically calculate capital gains tax the second you make a transaction but now.
...

Im guessing when BTS X catches on, they will make a ruling that even if you buy something using BitUSD, you will have to calculate your capital gains based on how much BTS you sold to acquire the BitUSD.

Keyhotee / Reuse work of Tox for VOIP
« on: March 30, 2014, 10:25:06 pm »
I am anxiously waiting for an easy to use & secure Skype replacement.

As I understand it Keyhotee has almost got distributed identity ownership working in a blockchain, but it doesnt have any VOIP implemented yet. Why not just integrate/fork the code from Tox? Their user interface looks really good, but Im guessing they have a centralized username registration scheme.

Too many open source projects try to reinvent the wheel, when they could be leveraging other people's work.

In this particular instance it has accelerated the timeline.

Oh cool - btw didn't mean to sound negative I was just worried.

It seems like every week we keep hearing changes from Bytemaster (such as trustees) that seem to be quite fundamental to how the system works. This makes me think that BTS X still has quite a long way to go before its release.

Can we have a poll option to get rid of the 'h' ? We at least dont want a "ho" in the name.

I respectfully submit the Keyhotee moniker is inadequate and may hinder widespread adoption.
...

Im glad someone has raised this issue - I was about to raise this as well.

Here is a list of communication networks that are extremely popular:

-Twitter
-Skype
-Whatsapp
-Facebook

Now here is a list of communication networks that only techies have heard of:

-Bitmessage
-Torchat

Ignoring the fact that the second list require users to share hashes of public keys, there is another pattern there - successful product names are catchy, don't include techy jargon, and can often be used as a verb. I would assert that Keyhotee is NOT catchy, and is borderline jargon. Whilst you can say "Skype/Tweet me", the phrase "send me a Keyhotee" is never going to catch on.

I dont want to have to go around my family evangelizing a product with the word "Bit" in the name either - its extremely geeky, and most people are not interested in the technology, they are interested in the social experience. For a communication system to actually get any momentum, the branding is just as important as the technology.

General Discussion / Re: BitUSD as collateral

Awesome :)

I really like your preference of taking longer to develop a well thought out & more complete product rather than rushing it. Despite there being some whiners on the forums who want everything now.

That is supported in the first chain.

Wahoo - Bitshares X is going to be useful for so many people :)

Sorry if this has been addressed before, but if I swap some BitUSD for BitGold, but I dont have any BTS to pay the transaction fee, do I pay the transaction fee out of the assets instead? Or am I always required to have at least some BTS to swap the BitAssets directly?

Holding BitUSD is never subject to margin calls... only being Short BitUSD.

I think that using BitUSD as collateral makes perfect sense for future systems.

Even if we couldnt do shorting BitUSD against BitGold immediately, it would still be great if we could at least directly swap BitUSD for BitGold using the buy & sell operations in the first BTS chain. IMO it seems like this would go a long way to reinforcing the value of the BitAssets and thereby helping the peg to function, because it would create arbitrage opportunities.

Being able to trade USD for gold without the huge fees that gold holding companies charge would be awesome.  :D

General Discussion / Businesses accepting BitUSD
« on: March 23, 2014, 03:39:31 am »
I think it will be small companies that will start accepting BitUSD first. Big companies need to be convinced that the system works.

The community here should be asking how we can promote the BitUSD economy, for example someone should make a BitUSD version of http://pizzaforcoins.com

Has Bytemaster considered allowing in the future the dynamic creating of new assets in the exchange?

People could propose a new asset description, such as BitWhateverImInterestedIn, and if later on there is insufficient market activity then the asset expires. This would be awesome.

I agree there is all sorts interesting different domains you could predict with the powerful & disruptive technology that is Bitshares X. Speculating on RAM wouldn't be my thing, but personally I would find this hilarious:

Muse/SoundDAC / Re: BitShares Music
« on: March 16, 2014, 05:36:16 am »
Im really excited that about the potential for a new revenue model for Music. But can someone explain to me, if I hold shares in a particular song by using Bitshares Music, where is the link between that song being played and my shares receiving dividends? I watched Dan's snapshot video where he touched on all the other DACs, but I didnt quite understand that key point.

Keyhotee / Re: We must hurry, bitMessage has ID now
« on: March 15, 2014, 12:18:07 am »
For a messaging system to really take off it needs to be ridiculously easy and free to use, therefore having to pay for a name in the namecoin system is too high a barrier.

So IMHO Bitmessage provides no competition to Keyhotee. Once Keyhotee can do free distributed name registration, VOIP, online as well as offline messages, it will blow everything else out of the water.

Oh it needs mobile app versions as well.

Edit: Tox looks good - Im not sure how they do name registration.
