This is a fantastic idea, well done.

Are they any pool projects we can reuse to make this happen faster?

Maybe a PTS bounty should be allocated to speed this up.

There is a GUI being developed to interact with the market and put in bids/shorts for BitUSD. There are some screenshots floating around (looks quite promising). And yes after acquiring BitAssets you can send them on to a merchant's address for example.

People here are looking for ideas for new DACs, so here is a rough idea that I had to reuse the BTS X exchange system.

Imagine you have a decentralized multiplayer game implemented in a blockchain, for example a minecraft type game. There are different assets that you can use in the game world, such as wood, stone, water etc (I havent played it that much).

The beauty of the BTS exchange is that it allows assets to come into existence when buyer prices are matched with the shorts. The BTS exchange could be reused here to provide assets for use in the game. Players can decide how much of the shares they want to trade to get BitWood, BitStone etc. The more skilled they are with the game mechanics, the better they know what each asset is worth.

The only thing left to figure out is the game mechanics that would incentivize players to buy the assets. The assets need to provide usefulness in the game in terms of protecting the player against loss. In the minecraft world, the player needs to protect himself against the monsters roaming around, so he needs to build a house, needing BitWood & BitStone. Anyone here have any ideas for better game mechanics?

Building up your wealth in game assets by trading on a BTS X chain would be really fun :)

Do the assets traded on the MSC decentralized exchange allow you protect against volatility by locking in your profits into a pegged asset like BitUSD?

I was always suspicious of Mastercoin ever since I first heard of it because its name attempts to make it sound flashy, and it seems to try to do everything (just like Ethereum). It also piggy backs on top of the Bitcoin blockchain which Gavin has criticized as spam. I really liked the Bitshares X concept because it has a simple important value proposition, and its not marketed by BS.

General Discussion / Re: 'das trader' market-maker bot discussion
« on: March 10, 2014, 09:07:53 pm »
Here is what I think a market maker bot needs:

-Pull the real prices in e.g. from Yahoo finance (see my script)
-User can control the spread size he wants to offer around the real price. Lower spread is more competitive but more risky for market maker.
-Another spread value to set is around the value of BTS itself - different people could interpret that from different exchanges.
-Control what to do when an bid/ask order was transmitted that is now too generous given the new real price of the asset. e.g. The market maker bot could cancel the order (for another transaction fee) and replace at the new correct price.

Cool, thanks for the explanation.  You're correct about shorting USD vs BTS which is why I suspect BTS will likely go to da moon.   8)

Just because everyone is trying to short BitUSD at the beggining, doesnt mean that BTS itself will trade at a large value - this is determined by what happens on the real exchanges where BTS is really handed over for BTC etc. Which is why I suspect that at least at the beginning on cryptsy BTS will trade lower than the implied value given by the BTS market, which is packed with people who are much more bullish on BTS because of their investment in it.

Is it so complicated!

I agree.

The name "BitUSD" is like a brandname - it is instantly meaningful as a crypto with a stable pegged value. I think its important not to dilute that.

Also, I have been thinking about what Dan said about launching new chain versions. He said that when a new Bitshares X version's chain is launched, all share holders will be copied over into the genesis block of the new chain, but all BitAssets will not. That means there would be a race to sell your assets for shares, leading to the peg probably breaking down.

General Discussion / Estimate of the dividends
« on: March 04, 2014, 11:48:44 pm »
How good do we estimate the dividends will be? Say if I have 100 bts, how much new bts could I receive, and how often would that happen? Are dividends given out every N blocks?

Im guessing the only answer to the size is it depends on the rate at which transactions take place. But maybe someone else has a better answer.

If anyone doesnt want to use any tools, you can just search for your address manually in
https://raw.github.com/betaxx/BTSXBalance/master/genesis.json

Edit: although it doesn't include AGS from PTS donations.

1120
Are you going to be extending this genesis.json file to include AGS holders?

tip sent, appreciate your efforts  :D

Thank you very much :)

Bytemaster yes as soon as the network is running and my wallet can pull in some order book data, an average from all the assets will be a good way to calculate the price of BTS. That will save me from having to get it from Cryptsy or somewhere.

Please please please get a spokesperson.  Presentation is important [snipped the rest]

On the contrary, Dan did a great job presenting this. One of the things that attracted me to Invictus is that its stated aims are clear, and its development is done in an open and transparent way. I dont want some slick salesman giving me BS, and this video reminded me exactly why investing in Dan's company was a great thing to do. Also, think of Dan's feelings before you write something offensive again.

Dan and Gregory just completed a nice new video on this very subject.
It should be out Real Soon Now.

Where can we watch Dan's other videos? IIRC there was supposed to be a blog post from Dan out on Monday.

I for one plan on shorting as many bitAssets as possible to accumulate more bitshares and I do not plan on selling any of my bitshares until the market cap exceeds $20 billion.

Perhaps you should consider hedging your portfolio and going long on BitGold :)

AGS gives you BTS automatically when the software is released. Your BTC address used to donate for AGS is the same address encoded in the BTS genesis block.

In other words, there is no "transferring" - you simply reuse your same addresses in the new chain, and it doesnt cost you anything.

Its pretty stress free IMHO.
