General Discussion / Re: Script to calculate BitAsset prices
« on: February 25, 2014, 02:30:46 pm »
Ok here you go:
http://pastebin.com/R6faJ3zN

Tested on linux. Only extra things it needs is PyQt4 and ystockquote.
sudo pip install ystockquote

Later I will fill those BID/ASK columns with the results of RPC orderbook calls to the BTS client for each asset.

General Discussion / Re: What are Bitshares?
« on: February 25, 2014, 01:45:35 pm »
Practically speaking, BitsharesX is a DAC providing a decentralized bank & exchange. Holders of BTS receive dividends from the bank's profits, and can use their shares to buy/sell currencies/assets traded on the exchange. As its a decentralized exchange, it doesnt have the same vulnerabilities as MtGox for example.

General Discussion / Script to calculate BitAsset prices
« on: February 25, 2014, 04:29:36 am »
I wrote a python script that pulls in $ prices of various BitAssets from Yahoo finance, and automatically prices them in terms of BTS. This should help the prediction market come to consensus, and let you know if an asset is overbought/sold. If anyone thinks this is cool/useful, I can post the source.

General Discussion / Re: GAME THEORY- EXTREMELY IMPORTANT
« on: February 23, 2014, 11:45:04 am »
If someone is tempted to sell their shares at the beginning, they should at least buy BitUSD instead of selling the shares. This (theoretically) will let you lock in your profits commission free, without totally exiting the Bitshares ecosystem. The only question is how much BitUSD will actually track the inverse price of BTS on the centralized exchanges. Its going to be fascinating to watch.

General Discussion / Set automatic expiry on my orders
« on: February 22, 2014, 01:29:14 pm »
Would it be possibly to submit buy/sell orders with a guaranteed expiry of a number of blocks. i.e. If my buy order is not matched within at most 10 blocks in the future, it will be canceled automatically.

This way I can protect myself against the price of a Bit asset going against me too much as I leave an order open overnight for example.

The alternative to this would be to manually submit a cancel order, which Im guessing would cost me more transaction fees?

General Discussion / Re: Best way to get Bitshare X ?
« on: February 22, 2014, 01:22:53 pm »
PTS holders get 50%, AGS donaters get the other 50%. AGS shares are given to donators in batches on a daily basis, and on the 28th February there are actually more PTS than AGS shares, therefore donating directly to get AGS is a more effective way to get BTS - as long as the AGS/BTC rate for that day doesnt get too bad.

Yes I know its confusing :P

What country is Bithaus going to be based in?

Do you have a banking partner sorted out to receive user deposits? That seems to be the hardest part of running an exchange.

Looks great btw.

General Discussion / Re: how can i deposit USD to btsx platform?
« on: February 19, 2014, 12:26:07 am »
We are working with exchange partners that should help direct exchange of USD for BitUSD.

Can you please elaborate on which exchange partners you are working with for USD -> BitUSD ? Are we talking about a well known BTC exchange expanding their offering ?

General Discussion / Re: Bitshares equivalent of localbitcoins?
« on: February 17, 2014, 11:30:26 pm »
Im sure there will be some small bid/ask spread for BitUSD - traders always try to take a commission.

Yes you can just sell BitUSD on the blockchain, but I still like the option of allowing adverts to buy the shares themselves first as well.

General Discussion / Bitshares equivalent of localbitcoins?
« on: February 17, 2014, 11:05:32 pm »
Is anyone working on a Bitshares equivalent of localbitcoins.com? This would be really useful to get money into BTS directly, bypassing BTC.

I was thinking such a site could list the bid/asks for the shares itself which will go up and down depending on demand, as well as showing prices for BitUSD etc, which should remain fairly constant. This has the advantage over BTC in that you always know a fixed amount of fiat you need to get into BTS crypto.

BitShares AGS / Re: 1 AGS worth more than 1 PTS

Is anyone else holding out for 100 AGS/BTC again before they donate more?

A fun way to estimate what the opening price of BTS will be :)

General Discussion / Re: Chain for stocks
« on: February 16, 2014, 12:32:40 pm »
I have a plan to aggressively fork BTS X the second it graduates from XT. I will honor PTS/AGS 50/50 with snapshot from the end of the previous month.
My first planned chain was a cryptocurrency chain so I can finally short shitcoins

That's a great idea +5% - then sites like cryptsy almost become redundant.
