Technical Support / Re: What happened to the 30 million BTS
« on: September 11, 2015, 11:00:53 pm »
Thank you newmine for bringing this up.

We talk about how mining puts huge downward pressure on a blockchain, what about 30 million new BTS constantly vesting over 2 years? When new users ask about the distribution of BTS and they hear that we gave away 30 million BTS to 1 guy for his pipe dream voting pet project that has nothing to do with the core product, they will say why should I invest in this?

Lets assume that 2.0 is really popular and achieves a moderately successful market cap of $200 million in a couple of years. Then that 30 BTS will earn AE $2.4 million dollars for doing nothing.

We keep hearing about how Vote is the secret sauce but we never hear any updates on it. Adam is never posting on these forums on why he needs to be given that money or what he is doing with it. Im sure hes talented otherwise BM would not have done it.

We are creating a new genesis block for BTS 2.0, so how about fixing this elephant in the room by deleting that 30 million BTS vesting address from the genesis block. Or would Adam like to comment on this post on why that shouldnt happen? There is already precedent for this - the marketing guy's bonus was cancelled and the departure was still ammicable.

This needs to be fixed.

Btw the wallet you are looking at is only lasting for another month. This is what it will turn into:

I love the look of this:

"Partial progress on bitasset 'borrowing'"
https://github.com/cryptonomex/graphene-ui/commit/ae96a743c3cda5734b11abb192596c57a2f024dd

Perhaps we dont have too long to wait for the bond market afterall +5%

Got any screenshots?

General Discussion / Re: how MineBitShares works? worth 7 100% delegate???
« on: September 09, 2015, 10:05:20 pm »
It IS working. Only recently did he get enough delegate pay voted in to start  development necessary to make it profitable (at which time paid delegates will no longer be necessary and can be voted out without negative effect). Please continue to vote for this very promising project so it can reach its potential. It has the potential to benefit us all (except newmine, lol).

How much more delegate pay does it need to be profitable?
What is it still missing that is making it unprofitable? It seems to be fully functional.
Isnt it just the case that miners are just not interested in being paid in BitUSD, for the reason I just described?

There is no actual evidence that margin trading is even on anyone's radar.

Agreed.

Margin trading is a really big deal though.  Poloniex has taken over the altcoin trading because it added margin.  If people could safely margin trade things in BTS it would be amazing.  (Beyond just the ability to slightly margin long BTS via a bitUSD short).

Isnt what Polo is doing what we would call the Bond market?

Btw as soon as proposals are running, Im voting for the Bond market to be the #1 priority. Peer 2 peer lending is the killer blockchain app.

Besides, what happened to the whole mining is wasting money view? Didn't want to do it to secure the network but it's okay and necessary to do it to build the network? Scratching my head on that one.

Theoretically its a good way of supporting BTS at Bitcoin's expense.

I think the problem with minebitshares is that:
Miners are hunting for the reward to pay for their expenses, which are in real $ paid for by selling their crypto frequently. It doesnt really give them any advantage to receive their reward in BitUSD - they have to sell it for real $ just like if they received Bitcoin. Bitcoin just has better liquidity so the spread they pay for getting from BTC to $ is tighter.

Just remember to vote no to this project when 2.0 comes round and the delegates have to reapply. It was a nice idea but just hasnt worked.

General Discussion / Re: Bitshares price discussion

You cant apply over-fancy TA like Elliot waves to such a low volume thing as BTS. What happened was buzzwords like "Pitchfork" and "Timeline" were used, and short term speculators got excited and made 50%. That is all.

Rallies in the market are driven by forum hype from the lead developers, just like the first one was a year ago, when it was announced that BTSX would be bought back with ags funds. How is an elliot wave going to predict that?

General Discussion / Re: Vested Balance and BTER
« on: September 07, 2015, 08:41:51 pm »
Here is a new conspiracy theory for you:  maybe bter has been cashing everyone's vested BTS balances from all that PTS all along, and then dumping it at btc38 to try to recover the money they lost.

Sounds entirely plausible.

General Discussion / Price feed relative orders in 2.0?
« on: September 06, 2015, 09:14:04 pm »
Are price feed relative orders on BitAssets going to make a reappearance in 2.0?

If I remember correctly the main argument against it was that it placed too much power in the hands of the delegates providing the price feeds, thereby leaving the system open to manipulation. But the way I see it anyone who does issue a relative order is making a personal choice and he alone takes the risk. The risk is not socialized.

If we had feed relative orders then liquidity on everything would be guaranteed as market making would be trivial.

Are the new BitAssets rules in 2.0 going to solve all our liquidity problems?

What is the ETA on the bond market?

There is a post in the subreddit about how unprofessional this project is.

So yeah lets not try to flog drugs on the forums please.

Im flattered I got a mention in the video :) but I dont really see how Im blocking freedom. The admins of this site have the freedom to moderate it however they see fit. Also, there is financial freedom that BitShares brings but there is also psychological & mental freedom. I dont think cannabis gives that - it seems to give memory problems from what Ive read.

Personal note. I don't care what you take or smoke, but I expect a delegate to act in the interest of the project. there are other places for questionable activities.

General Discussion / Re: Augur crowd sale
« on: August 26, 2015, 11:10:04 am »
If Ethereum is such a great development platform for developing smart contracts, why does Auger need $3million to build a prediction market into it?

And I assume that if Auger is crowdfunding they will create a UIA in Ethereum as a reward. Therefore if Auger becomes popular it wont be that beneficial for Ethereum because Ether wont be used as collateral - BitUSD wins again.
