General Discussion / Re: Bitshares price discussion
« on: August 26, 2015, 08:55:03 am »
A bit under .1% a day.  Around .08 to .09%.  So with Around 200k on loan i'm getting a bit under 200 BTS a day.  Maybe 160 or so.  Sometimes I have up to 300k on loan if its all out, but usually some of it is sitting around.

Assuming its always on loan, with compound interest 0.08%/day is 33%/year. Cant wait to do this from inside BTS  - the bond market is going to be awesome.

The number of BTS available to be shorted on polo went from 2.5 million a few hours ago to 1.7 million now.  That means people added 800k in shorts in the past few hours (and/or people who were offering BTS for loan decided to remove them).  The ones I had available all got borrowed and shorted.   Hopefully if the short interest gets too high and it doesnt drop it could ignite a covering rally and create our bottom.  (of course, it could go down more first)

How much % interest do you get loaning out your BTS on polo?

General Discussion / Re: Private BitAssets in 2.0?

Hmm I just realised that anyone can already setup themselves as a central betting house - you just publish prices on a website and receive payments in BitUSD (or Bitcoin) and simply send back a payment if the bet was profitable.

Also, having private BitAssets doesnt solve the liquidity problem - if I publish 1000 price feeds it will dilute trading into 1000 different markets. The solution to this is private price feeds that post collateral, allowing anyone to take the other side of the bet.

This is equivalent to spread betting as it is known in the UK. The spread betting company provides access to thousands of different markets because it just gives a BID & ASK price and act as central counterparty to everyone's bets.

Can we have spread betting (for want of a better name) in BitShares? It would solve the problem of everyone having to dump their BTS whenever they want to speculate on other things for which there is no BitAsset or insufficient volume for.

General Discussion / Private BitAssets in 2.0?

Private BitAssets: one entity publishes his price feeds into the blockchain without having to worry about paying a huge registration fee OR getting a median of 100 delegates - more efficient if you trust that entity.

Questions:
-Are they available from the release of 2.0?
-Has anyone confirmed they are going to be publishing private BitAssets for
--stocks? (Because the SEC will love it)
--Ethereum? (If you want to flirt with Ether do it here FFS)

On a related note I was watching Max Keiser the other day and he was talking about how his Box Office futures market was outlawed because the film industry didnt like it. He then mentioned decentralized prediction markets, and of course he mentioned Auger and not us. BitAssets for film box office revenue would stir a lot of attention. (Who wouldnt want to short an Adam Sandler movie?)

Ok here is my attempt at explaining what BitShares is. I deserve a Brownie for this:

Quote
BitShares is a smart contract platform and asset exchange with Nasdaq-level capacity built into a blockchain.
BitShares' global orderbook supports trading market pegged and issued assets with minimal fees and the best liquidity.
BitShares is the world's first (potentially) profitable virtual company, by earning more income from providing services than the cost of securing the network.
BitShares is an ideal financial system, where participants have complete choice in their type of savings, which are fully collaterialized and can be lent out globally for the maximum possible return.

No one has any idea, thats why the price is tanking.

At least with Ethereum you can explain it in one sentence "Turing-complete programmable smart contract currency"

Someone needs to create a one liner like that for BitShares.

I understand where profitofthegods is coming from. Having patience and holding BitShares through all these bottomless cliff losses is already painful enough, now we have speculate on a new token that was spawned out of the air because the value of our BTS holdings (as a sharedrop target) is getting further diluted.

General Discussion / 350M votes for marketing delegates WTF
« on: August 19, 2015, 09:51:09 pm »
-argentina-marketing.matt608: 369M for his 100% delegate. Its hopeless, they save more in toilet paper than BitUSD.
-marketing.methodx: 355M votes - didnt he get bored and move onto his other business interests?
-market.cn.group101: 613M votes - they are "evangelizing" in China. The member that proposed that delegate has a grand total of 8 posts https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,13226.0.html He obviously got elected and pissed off.

Are we all just too apathetic to fire people?

Also, do delegates have to reapply for their 100% positions in BTS 2.0, so we can finally trim some fat?
