Technical Support / Re: About BItshares 2.0 Snapshot
« on: August 18, 2015, 10:53:30 pm »
BitShares is restarting with totally new software (2.0) and a new blockchain starting with a new genesis block, which will be snapshotted from the existing distribution of BTS and BitAssets.

The benefit is that the new software is cleaner, faster and easier to monetize by cryptonomex which will support the development of BitShares with less need for further dilution.

General Discussion / Re: What is the focus of BitShares now?

The purpose of Bitshares is to secure life, liberty and property for all.

If you were to ask a Bitcoiner, they would say Bitcoin is already doing that. So in what way does BitShares secure Life, Liberty etc and Bitcoin doesnt?

Here's an interesting idea Ive been pondering:

Large scale web applications typically have a web server that receives requests and does load balancing to the backend application servers. Requests are handled by as many backend servers as are needed to satisfy user demand.

There is the constant problem of how to sync up data across the servers, especially when one user's request can effect the validity/outcome of another user's request (such as an exchange website). So are there advantages to doing this using a private Graphene blockchain? Or does the extra redundancy of a blockchain make this inefficient relative to standard databases, with no real benefits?

It seems that running a p2p network as the backend of a website would be ideal in terms of taking servers down for maintenance, which is essential.

The focus is to become profitable.

The way I see this happening:
-Firing marketing delegates in 2.0
-Bond market will create more fees
-Referral marketing
-Partners such as Banx issue UIAs which trade on the blockchain thereby generating more fees.
-Slicker 2.0 wallet will bring in more users
-Wallets such as LimeWallet allow depositing BTC into BitUSD, without users having to know much about BitShares.

How about this for a constitution: "Earn more income than you consume, or die!"

General Discussion / Re: MetaExchange should host a BTS web-based wallet
« on: August 17, 2015, 09:38:08 pm »
Thanks for the feedback!

The idea is sound, but this is a considerable amount of work - it would definitely also be worth waiting for 2.0, otherwise all the work would need to be re-done.

It would be far, far easier to integrate a metaexchange widget into the existing web wallet... maybe this is something I could pursue, but again with 2.0, the work would need re-doing.

I agree the existing web-wallet should have MetaExchange integration, the only downside of that is that sharing a link to metaexchange sounds more appealing to Bitcoiners, just like shapeshift. Sharing a link to wallet.bitshares.org often gets dismissed as just an altcoin. But hopefully that will change.

Its good that youre thinking about it. MetaExchange is awesome!

General Discussion / MetaExchange should host a BTS web-based wallet
« on: August 16, 2015, 08:26:40 pm »
If MetaExchange hosted a cut-down version of the web-based wallet, it could become the best one-stop shop to trade Bitcoin into dollars (BitUSD).

Right now people can go to https://metaexchange.info/markets/bitUSD/BTC but it asks for their BitShares account, which would put off Bitcoin users who havent yet downloaded & used the BitShares wallet.

If the web wallet was built into MetaExchange and it generated BitUSD reciepient keys itself, we could all just share that link around to people who hate trading on regular exchanges, and this thing would sell itself.

 +5%?

where did you short Ether? I want to short the shit out of it because I think it will drop to at least $30mil market cap..

Id like to know as well, but I would prefer to be able to short it from within BitShares.

Can we have a pegged asset for Ethereum in the 2.0 genesis block? Save us from having to pay the fee to create it.

Its amazing how long its taking Bitcoin to do a simple capacity upgrade, given how much rapid innovation there is going on in BitShares.

The BTS 2 genesis isn't a sharedrop, it will contain all your bit assets if you have any, 1:1

Ok so the 2.0 genesis will contain BitAssets - thats good to know.

It has been described as a sharedrop before - and it fits the definition.

We are planning to add helpful hints in the future.

Committee Members are "Delegates" they vote on proposed changes to blockchain protocol.

You are adding them to your ballot.

Ah of course - got it.

For those of you who thought voting was confusing in 1.0...

What is a proxy account (Is it like nominating someone to vote with your stake?)
What do committee members do?
And I thought Witnesses were voted in not added...

Confused...

And can BM reassure us that this 2% inflation is temporary? He keeps referring to "ongoing development through dilution" as if it will last forever.

We seem to have a bunch of 100% delegates that shouldnt be there. Are voters really lazy?
