Technical Support / Running 0.9.1 windows 7 64-bit 4gb ram
« on: May 11, 2015, 05:16:28 pm »
I haven't been able to connect to my account for several versions and I'm starting to think my laptop just isn't up to it. I have 2.2gb of memory available. My symptoms are that when I attempt to run the client it either immediately closes due to a critical error or it stays on the blue bitshares screen with Starting BitShares at the bottom but nothing seems to be happening. I've left it in that state for over 24hrs before and the client still would not start afterwards.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

I listen to a lot of music and it occurred to me that I'm incentivized by the existence of Peertracks, to help the Artists I love to join a platform that will help them produce more of their music.  Yes I also have some notes, but I'm far more interested in the revolution in music production that Peertracks promises for the music itself.  Anyway, I've written this e-mail for review and I'd like to know if I have the approval of our communities (and especially Cob) to send it to all my favorite Artists if I can find their e-mail address.  I'll make a list of those that I send it to.  I'd like to keep it in my own words because that is more genuine, but please feel free to make a suggestion if you think it's more accurate or clearer and i'll consider making a change.  Also, if we all tried to write to our favorite artists (only once,) surely it's possible for something amazing to happen?!

Dear xxxxx

You don't know me personally but I am a huge fan of your music.  As such, I was hoping you might be interested in signing up to Peetracks which may be able to increase the reach of your work and help you acquire funding for your future projects.  We are in the midst of a crowdfunding revolution and Peertracks taps into that amongst other things.

Peertracks is an innovative web based music platform which is powered by Bitshares blockchain technology and does for music what Bitcoin has done for money.  It revolutionizes the discovery, distribution and remuneration for artists by incentivizing music fans to become swarms of talent scouts, enabling fans to fund and market artist's projects.  This platform delivers far more in the way of potential remuneration than traditional mechanisms which are fraught with middlemen and monopolies.

I think this is such a wonderful prospect for music in general, artists & fans, I've written this e-mail and intend to send it to all of my favourite artists in an effort to grow the platform.

If I have piqued your interest, please take a look at http://peertracks.com/

I hope to be able to purchase your Artistcoins soon!

Yours sincerely,

Ben.

General Discussion / Btshares Beer & International "Caps" Tournament
« on: April 24, 2015, 10:29:35 am »
This might be completely crazy but the young are the future so here goes....

How about we brew Bitshares Beer, put it in bottles and then organize an international 'Caps' tournament?

Caps is a drinking game where two or more participants sit opposite each other (or roughly in a circle) on the floor or at a table.  They have a bottle of beer in front of them with the bottle cap reversed and sitting on top.  The idea is to use a bottle cap to knock the cap off your opponent's bottle.  If you succeed, then your opponent has a chance to return fire and knock your bottle cap off.  If he fails then he must drink a finger of his beer, if he succeeds, then the round continues racking up fingers until someone chokes and misses.  Once a player has finished his bottle of beer, he adds another in front of him with another reversed cap.  The combination of skill, beer and competition can produce a fantastic spectacle and is a lot of fun.

I'm imagining Redbullesque media/marketing with a dodgeball kind of style.  The prize would need to be significant to initially galvanize attention.  Believe me, i'm ready to be given short thrift on this one! :)

I have a stake in a friend's Vape retail company, Vape Emporium, based in Hampstead London.  We also have a website http://vapeemporium.com/ which is currently being rebuilt and should be relaunched in a couple of weeks.  Once the new website is live, i'd really like for us to be able to accept BitShares & BitAssets.  Are the merchant plugins ready to go?  Could someone please suggest a good place to start for up-to-date info and support?

Also, in trying to think of how I could add value to both BitShares and Vape Emporium, I started contemplating the potential issuance of a UIA on BitShares.  I imagined the token could operate like a loyalty scheme that would discount VE's products (is this potentially dangerous with growth needing to pay for the discounts?) and perhaps act as the reward for some kind of referral scheme.  I'm having difficulty working through the economics though; how many tokens should there be at launch, can we involve our suppliers, should we do an asset drop and to whom? Should used tokens be burned?  Should the supply be fixed?  Can anyone imagine a scenario where a competitor might accept our UIA to discount their products etc.

I would appreciate any feedback or insights you may have.  This is a genuine attempt to bring value/transactions and awareness to BitShares.....we need everyday people to eventually start using our BitShares products.  Vaping is a growing trend with numbers and demographics that should appeal!  We could also do a lot to point non-crypto literate people to the right places for more information if the UIA is a success and it generates further interest in BitShares.

There are many bitshareophiles working tirelessly to build out the BitShares ecosystem.  Many are apparently motivated by more than just economic gain.  I believe that BitShares will succeed because of the mission, the technology and (more importantly) the incredibly creative and motivated community.

However, I've often wondered what the chances were that an enormously wealthy individual might decide to ensure the success of BitShares (given it's sterling objectives) by throwing £100 million or so at it.

Anyone know any central bankers, energy magnates or retail tycoons that might want to appease their conscience by helping us to build the tools that will put humanity back on the path to civilization?

I'm being rhetorical of course....but it would be nice wouldn't it......

Random Discussion / BitGuardians
« on: December 05, 2014, 05:54:44 pm »
I am a BitGuardian.

What is a BitGuardian?

A person who…
believes that every human being should live free from debt slavery
finds the destruction of human beings by the debt-war machine totally abhorrent
finds the destruction of the environment despicable
would gladly go without so that others could have something
believes in reason
holds truth in the highest regard…as rare and ephemeral as it can be
feels compelled to say, ‘No more! Not in my name’

There are fellow human beings out there who are hurting very badly.  They are being lied to, attacked, abused, enslaved, poisoned, they may be hungry, have no home, have nothing, their pain unacknowledged, forgotten.  This is utterly offensive.  Who can sleep at night while endless atrocities are committed against so many in our names?  Who can sleep at night while a single human being is terrified of other human beings?  What the hell is going on?  Are we insane?

We have everything we need to provide clean water, food, energy, shelter, education and health services to every single person on this planet.  Any gap could be filled by technological innovation.  A BitGuardian is someone who has dedicated themselves to ensuring this becomes a reality.

Satoshi’s blockchain invention has gifted us with the ability to resist corruption over time and therefore, the potential to become truly civilized.  For the first time in human history, the potential to transition peacefully from a system of abject horror to one of hope is a tantalizing reality.

BitGuardians unite, and with implacable determination and mind-boggling ingenuity, we will attempt to escort us all towards freedom and enlightenment.  We acknowledge the seriousness of our objective, the terrible cost of failure, with the deepest commitment.  We acknowledge the formidable forces and diabolical weaponry of dominion that is arrayed in opposition of our objective, but with joy in our hearts, we do not fear.

Anyone can be a BitGuardian, you probably already are.

Maybe one day, everyone will be.

I've paid (35k ltb) for an advert slot on the Beyond Bitcoin show for a delegate who would like to market themselves in order to become one of the 101.

If you are interested, please contact Legendface66 / Arthur by PM

This is a great opportunity to showcase the idea of network employees marketing themselves and competing to be a 101

All the best

Simeon II and I are in the process of bidding for a sponsorship slot on Legendface66's Beyond Bitcoin show.  The slot is intended for one or two BitShares delegates who might be interested in talking about DPOS and the delegate role.....for more specifics you'll need to contact Legendface66.

If you are interested post here.  There's no reason to think we shouldn't win the bid so far.  The bidding ends on 29th November 2014.

I'm not sure if Simeon II wanted to be one of the delegates or not.  He can have first dibbs :)

General Discussion / BitGOLD & BitSILVER and other BitCommodities
« on: November 12, 2014, 04:33:51 pm »
Given the possibility that all currencies are likely to become even more volatile relative to each other & that FIAT is a race to the bottom, shouldn't BitGLD, BitSLV and other commodity pegged assets receive more of our marketing attention than the BitAssets pegged to paper?  Aren't paper currency values certain to fall off a cliff and soon?

Early adopters of BitShares and early users of BitGLD etc could benefit from a upward revaluation that seems inevitable.....

I'd be very interested to know your thoughts....

I had a working windows .20 version for 64 bit then installed .23 64 bit, wallet would not start correctly.  Tried all the normal stuff, reinstall, uninstall, delete apps roaming folder....all to no avail.  Tried to reinstall .20 version but now nothing works.  App either fails to open at all or the starting window opens then goes nowhere....if you click on it, it simply disappears. Any ideas on how to proceed would be very much appreciated.

I want to check my understanding of the BitShares allocations after the snapshot date (5th November 2014) and what actions need to be taken.  Please could I ask the community to check the veracity of the statements below and correct where appropriate.  I think this may help quite a few of us....
