General Discussion / Re: Connecting the dots

Karnal I agree with pretty much most of what you have said. It's work work work and the only way it gets done is blood sweat and tears, utilising what we have and reach out (as fuzzy says,) inspire people to join and pour new effort or capital in for profit or the vision.

All those options are on the table and are being worked on as we speak!

Not least in a long long line of things worth selling about BitShares and this network is the vision, perhaps the most important objective. A world with secured digital information, reaching and sustaining systemic integrity. We should be proclaiming this vision everywhere and connecting with people who share that vision or desperately need a world in which that vision lives and breathes.

This will change everything. This will unlock human potential that until now, has been crushed to a crawl.

BitShares may not be there yet, but we're a darn sight closer. Those still working, still producing are getting smarter, faster, more resilient, more determined. More will come for the vision. They will pick up what others have started and  will be implacable in their pursuit of the vision.....because they must, because nothing else makes sense.

When blockchain became a reality, the seed of an idea was born. Finally, the world can be a better place.

Add in global university with the objective of migrating the majority of IP to joint ownership, improving quality of science, globally verified scientific database, increasing the potential to educate everyone, unleash innovation and productivity, solve more human problems, increase data sets, rebuild trust via trustless tech.

Fuzzy, I've flown from one side of this planet to the other and I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen anything to make me believe that there's one all-powerful force controlling everything. On the other han, the blockchain may grow to control all our destinies. BitSharians must have the deepest commitment, the most serious minds and use the blockchain for knowledge and defense, never for attack.

We  must unlearn what we have learned for many of the truths that we cling to, depend on our point of view.

Size matters not. Look at BitShares. Judge it by it's market cap do you? Hmm? Hmm? And well you should not. For our ally is the blockchain and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. It's energy will surround us and bind us. We will find only what we bring in.

May the blockchain be with you.

Random Discussion / Re: Mike Hearn:Why has Bitcoin failed?
« on: January 15, 2016, 11:19:05 am »
If BTS had fiat on-ramps, I would spend $10,000 of my own money right now to buy ads proclaiming BitShares to be Bitcoin's successor. Without fiat on-ramps, the whole thing is irrelevant because we are stuck in Bitcoin's inferno.
This is a monumentally important point. BitShares needs to be free of the Bitcoin network, urgently. Assuming global financial problems accelerate and capital flight to anywhere of relative safety begins in earnest....we need a stable pipe straight into BTS.  The Bitcoin, gold and silver markets are absolutely tiny compared with the paper markets and right now absolutely nobody cares. At some point, everybody is going to care.  With the Bitcoin network's trouble, it's not going to take long before capital tries to flow into more promising ledger technologies/networks. There will be more people doing more due diligence looking for less risky 1000's of % profits than Bitcoin is likely to be able to offer. Even if Bitcoin goes to $10,000 each, I expect the flaws and time restrictions on addressing them to mean capital will try to flood out....

Could be an interesting year! FIAT on off ramps could mean the difference between success or failure of network effect for BitShares as global events catch up to us.

Thank you for posting. Thank you to those participating. Thank you Bytemaster for your qualities of self-analysis, integrity and creativity.

I really empathise with anyone struggling to grapple with the finer points of integrating an existing business (something I've been wanting to do for a while) and the difficulty of digesting and tracking everything happening within the network or being built for it.

Can I suggest that CNX also submits a worker proposal for some kind of convention where lots of groundwork in organisation is put in, in advance of a BitShares remote convention. This would be for anyone but especially people interested in launching a business (pre-existing or otherwise) into the BitShares network.

General Discussion / Re: Someone Give Me a Reason To Keep Holding BTS
« on: January 08, 2016, 03:17:45 pm »
The truth is that people keep leaving this project and this community for a reason and its not the BTS price.

Balderdash. It certainly is the price that is generating the anxiety and frustration. Dan is a convenient scape-goat. That's not to say he's infallible, but who is?

It's so easy to look for someone to blame, the truth is BitShares needs more work and the means of growing the network needs some further adjustments.

Did we all think we were going to be rich within a couple of years.....is that it? And it looks like a great deal more work is required so it tantrums instead of facing facts and getting on with it?

There are many who exemplify the attitude that will bring the results....it should be obvious who they are.  Let's try to unify behind their efforts or try something ourselves. If someone is struggling, let's not accuse them and hang them out to dry, let's ask if we can help. If someone fails, well that's life, let's learn from it and move on with the next effort.

General Discussion / Re: Someone Give Me a Reason To Keep Holding BTS

At this point the only reason to invest in BTS is Identabit, but even that is dubious. I love that no one mentioned that. The features aren't the problem, its the resources, connections and funding that are.
If you have sold a month ago, what is the purpose of op? It seems disingenuous. Also you make statements like the one quoted as if it were fact. I am excited about Identabit and wish the project the very best, but it has not yet launched. I find it curious that you would claim it as the only reason to invest in BTS....which has an incredibly powerful product launched, active network, existing community, active funding and is being actively developed.

How is it disingenuous if I actively manage a BTS position?

I say that Identabit is the only reason I'd consider holding BTS because the product as it stands is useless. It doesn't matter if the tech is good no one is using. Bitshares has little to no connection to broader financial and payment system. If you can get money transmitters then theres a different story. If you can make the entire system regulatory compliant then there's a different story. If you can get venture capital backing then theres a different story. This is Identabits approach.

The community is getting smaller and smaller by the day. I've been here from pretty much the beginning. This community is a lot smaller than you are suggesting and those that have faithfully believed in this project have lost a lot of their capital.

The software development also is slow and the team is small, both in relation to other crypto projects and those business Bitshares is attempting to compete with.
Connection to the old, corrupt, falling apart legacy financial system is of dubious longterm value. The real value of BitShares is in being an alternative with integrity. There is no way the incumbent financial system is going to empower a replacement that they don't have direct control over.

I haven't referenced the size of the community at all. I don't know if it's bigger or smaller, though the composition is undoubtedly changing....I see it as a forging process. For every sell there is a buy.

From my perspective, the development process has been fast but more important is the quality.  There is nothing like BitShares in the whole world, we are simply in competition for the hearts and minds of people everywhere. The idea that success or failure can be measured in a couple of years for a platform this ambitious and disruptive is absolutely ludicrous. Had you held your BTS, would you be happy if in 5 years they had increased significantly in value? We will get there, we simply need to work harder and smarter for longer.

xeroc, abit & cube have been amazing in helping to resolve my Bitshares2 upgrade issues from windows.  I hope the process documented within this forum post can help the support of other users who may share my issues at some point!

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,20197.0.html

There is so much genuine help in this community as exemplified by these guys/gals and many others.  What would we do without them?

The Bitshares2-light client looks absolutely ace.  Thank you so much.
