Technical Support / Re: bitshares wallet help
« on: January 04, 2016, 01:05:30 pm »
I can't get v0.4.24.1 to run so that i can import my backup.  Every time i try to open the application it crashes immediately.  Any ideas?  Boy do i wish i'd started this adventure on a Mac!

Random Discussion / Re: The Foundation's Response to my Article
« on: January 04, 2016, 09:50:29 am »
I think the response and further discussion shows how right you were in writing your article. An audit should be done. I feel sad for those members of the foundation who may be innocent and yet are tarnished by the actions of others.

Bitcoin was not designed with accountable governance in mind so the foundation or any other group attempting to guide Bitcoin's development or any other function will continue to have these problems. I believe the problems with Bitcoin may become terminal.  The question is, how do we save all those who's capital resides within the Bitcoin or other networks? I think the only way is to encourage anyone involved in crypto to stop having a tribal mentality and to help each other see the whole of crypto as a single network with an array of experiments. We then help each other to understand all the projects/experiments with integrity and value and make every effort to unify around them. At the same time, it would be fantastic if the devs of these projects can find common ground to work together. Perhaps I'm being naive and the simple truth is that there must be winners and losers....but I hope not.

ok i think the backup file might be from an older version as i'm not sure that i actually managed to run 0.9.1.

Is there a way to tell from the file itself from what version it originated?
Do you remember when you made the backup? There is a compatibility issue with v0.4.25-rc2 and later version:

Cannot import wallet backups made with previous versions
In this case, you can try to install v0.4.24.1 and import your backup, if succeeded,  install v0.9.3c directly and make a new backup.

I'm afraid I'm not sure which version the backup was from but it could have been that far back. I'll follow your instructions and let you know how it goes. I'm very grateful for the help.....so much of it has been offered to me so readily. Thank you.

Just for info I'm a brownie holder but not in the list. As I've been unable to import my account yet, I can't tell you if I've received anything, sorry. Anyway hope that helps Ronny.
Unable to import, due to lack of privacy or other technical issues?
Tech issues I'm afraid....Xeroc and several others have very kindly tried to help but no joy.

My preference is that as a committee we would simply sell the assets back into the market and use those funds to fund the fee pool.

If we went further than that the smart thing to do would be to start with our largest bitasset that also tends towards being overpriced.  Specifically bitusd.  The fair thing to do, would be to spend the proceeds of each assets fee pool on extra liquidity for that asset.

I also think that this is very reasonable thing to do at this moment.

I like this idea too

General Discussion / Re: Q1 Roadmap for CNX
« on: January 03, 2016, 08:36:47 am »
Love the roadmap. Thanks BM. We're getting so close now.....it's going to be a huge year for BitShares. One issue after another dealt with. The results of new funding experiments will be in. The incentive for use of the dex will grow and may even reach critical awareness. The governance structure will really begin flexing its shareholder endowed muscles. The BitShates community will become supercharged and the network effect juggernaught will begin to roll!

Jeepers Hunter_S, I'm pretty sure that is not what I've said or meant, but if I've miscommunicated my points, I appologise.
No worries Ben. I see what you mean and actually agree about the vision of Bitshares and whatnot, I was just a little annoyed with what I thought was some random and sudden change in direction. My bad if I misinterpreted that. I just feel very strongly about getting things done right before we move on to the next idea.
Thank you. I really do understand. One way or another we'll get it right because between us all, there is an abundance of passion to do so.

"Business" did not begin a significant network effect for many thriving networks. Many of the people we need to reach are not interested in business. A lot of the language used by some to try to describe a deeper motive or vision for being a part of BitShares is the result of critical thought. To conclude that helping people and finding focus with building mutually supportive communities is embarrassing is to put down the single biggest route for potential growth that exists. I'll tell you what I'm embarrassed about.....there are millions, perhaps billions of people that are desperate, with virtually nothing compared with the luxuries most of us here take for granted.  If the focus for BitShares is anything other than to help people and communities resist corruption over time, then what we are doing here is ultimately  worthless.....because someone will use the technology and succeed in doing just that.

That is not to say that I don't understand your concerns and that it is not important to ensure the economics driving the system correctly align incentives for participants. I want you to succeed Samupaha, I want us all to succeed in our goals.  We can try many different ways that inspire us....

Your ideas are great Samupaha! Let's get doing what you've suggested. It seems to me to be mostly aligned with BM's vision anyway.

I don't believe one needs to be a hippy to employ reason to conclude that humans can organise themselves differently and in such a way that peace is one of many outcomes. Peace  ;D

I haven't thought to much about it .. but essentially, we could have an opensource society that earns you KARMA when you "donate" and the society could pay software developers.
Problem is that karma is "only" a social reputation ... If you can make having a good karma something people want to have .. then that society could work ..
Yea I agree fuzzy, beautiful. People need to alter what they value, what motivates them in order to truely give life to these ideas. Fortunately I think many peoples of the world are on the cusp of re-evaluation and awakening.
