General Discussion / Re: Proposal to Resolve a Million Issues at Once
« on: October 20, 2014, 01:45:25 pm »
So excited!  Let's supercharge BM and the development teams, bring them all in together working towards and focused on the super DAC! Boom!

If we've been building rockets.....every stage (innovation) so far has moved us closer to lift off.  What an incredible year, so many accomplishments.

Now we have a chance to prove BM's consensus modelling and implementation whilst maintaining transparency and integrity.  Imagine how valuable the market will find a crypto company that has a track record of effectively navigating these dangerous early waters and adapting fluidly in order to improve itself?!

Let's try not to quibble over allocations please.....let's just get moving on it!  This community is awesome, within 48hrs, the spectrum of emotion and the passion is incredible....now we need to back each other, trust BM and Stan and hold the line.

The mumble session was excellent..... +5%

I'm more confident in Dan, Stan and Bitshares than ever for continuing to innovate and adapt within a highly competitive market.  The idea that our investments would be best served by rigidly ignoring new information or experience is ridiculous.

People i've been trying to get interested in Bitshares have said they would be more interested should the new proposal be implemented.....

WOW

Counterparty has dropped all of my addresses after address #3, from my wallet!  That for not logging in for 3 mo.  or what?

Anybody has any idea how to retrieve them?

PS
I have a whole lot of nothing in those, but still...

I had the same issue.  If you're sure you typed the correct passphrase, the first thing to try is creating a bunch of new addresses within your wallet (it took four new addresses before my old 'disassociated' addresses came back.)

I'm more than happy to donate a pile of LTB coin

Your passion does you credit Thom.

I love it too.  Who would have thought that the final battle between good & evil would be arranged so?  With mountains of malevolent bankers and their slave states on the one side with a handful of brave, innovative technological computer wizards (not me) :)) on the other.

I really hope that the sheer potency and pervasiveness of the blockchain technology can save us all from one final conflagration.  Then, as Bill Hicks said....

"Take all that money we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would pay for many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace.”

Can anyone tell me if Blockchain.Info will support claiming Notes?
You can export you private keys from your blockchain.info addresses in the "advanced" menu .. and then import them into your music client (once released)

blockchain.info does not have anything to do with claiming shares .. but they need to offer the private key of your bitcoin address (which they do)

Thanks so much Xeroc, I hoped that was the case

That was awesome.  Every argument Andreas made was well reasoned, measured and ultimately impossible to deny.

The Canadian Senators have done the world a great service by having this open Q&A.  In acknowledging the extreme expert status of Andreas and enabling him to articulate clear, well reasoned recommendations, only an absolute fool would recommend anything else.

If the panel of senators make recommendations for regulation, or lack thereof, based on Andreas's testimony, only a completely corrupt legislator or bigger fool would implement anything else.

Charlie Chaplain, The Great Dictator -

"I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be an emperor. That’s not my business. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone - if possible - Jew, Gentile - black man - white. We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness - not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. And the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way.

Greed has poisoned men’s souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical. Our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery we need humanity. More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost....

The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men - cries out for universal brotherhood - for the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world - millions of despairing men, women, and little children - victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people.

To those who can hear me, I say - do not despair. The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed - the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish. ....."

On youtube, the above speech mixes very movingly with Hiatus - Precious Little.....just get them both going at about the same time....

There is no choice but to resist.....because how can we enjoy the world's staggering beauty if we stand idly by whilst others are subjected to such ugliness?

Most of these companies are not based in the US from what I can tell. I know that Swarm, Ethereum, BitsharesX, and Maidsafe are not at least. CP didn't do an IPO, but burned Bitcoins to get genesis stake.. I'm not sure that would be counted either even though they do seem to be based in the US. Mastercoin probably falls under this category, unfortunately for them. The projects that have launched since them have been more cautionary in terms of regulatory issues.

This is still bad news over all though... just when Bitcoin/crypto is starting to rebound too. The powers that be can't stand it when the 99% have easy access to investing in disruptive technologies when they were blissfully unaware of their existence.

SWARM is US based, and I'll be shocked if Invictus is not getting a knock on the door come raid day for Angelshares.

and before you say "They're not based in the US", they were when they were collecting money for angelshares and that's what matters.

Why would you be shocked Adam?  Angel shares is a private record of a donation of cryptographic digital information....in return for which, those who donated will receive several allocations of cryptographic digital information within open-source software products.  On what basis could someone come after them?  Are we not free to gift an arrangement of harmless digital information to whomever we choose and receive harmless digital information in return?

Try not to panic....this technological innovation cannot be un-invented.  The writing is on the wall.  One way or another, blockchain technology will redistribute the power of money and transform our societies.  It's already happening.  Decentralization is and has always been the key.  Bitshares will endure.

Ben, I'm not sure how long you've been around this community but Angelshares has morphed in "what it is" several times.  It has been a donation, an investment, a trust, etc.  All these words were used in official material and in communications to people who were asked to give money by the people who were recieving it.   Take a look at the disclaimer in posts by Daniel or Stan, you'll notice the disclaimer saying anything they say on these forums is non-binding.  Well, that's great but it was a bit late and much was said in the interim.

I totally agree none of this can be uninvented, I've never claimed that and *I'm* not panic-ing or really even concerned, but it's naive to say that Invictus won't be on the list because they're "not based in the US".  If you're panic-ing, it probably means you are too vested in the bitshares ecosystem and your incentives are screwed up because of it.   Our viewpoints should be guided by the way things are, not the way we wish they were.

Sorry Adam, the second paragraph was not mean't for you personally, it was a general statement.

I've been around from very early on and have the privilege of being a founder.  I always accepted that the language used to describe the technology would change and evolve.  I am very comfortable with my investment in Bitshares and have a deep conviction that I3 & Bitshares & the community will take us where we need to go.  I just don't see what the attack vector is with regards to Angelshares in the present.  Please enlighten me if you don't mind.....I have always valued your insight and integrity.

No, I'm hoping BM will see the difference between ounces of gold and shares in a company, (DA's and DACs) and the conflict trying to combine the two creates.

I don't understand what your concern is if you are interested in digital gold, or more generally a cryptocurrency (currencies should have price stability, which BTSX and BTC do not have). BitShares X already has what you want, it's called BitGLD. So, bytemaster already sees the difference between ounces of gold (BitGLD) and shares in a company (BTSX). Even if BitShares X implements dilution, the value you keep as BitGLD will not be inflated away at all.

Who knows what shareholders will vote for with regard to BitGLD. Banks 'should' act in the customers best interest and be transparent...

Anyway gold is just an analogy. A crypto-money has many advantages over gold.

The only properties a crypto-money shares with gold is that most of the initial rules can't or are incredibly likely to ever be changed, like the '21 million BTC'

Most current crypto-currencies can be described as crypto-money in that they'd have a hard time changing their supply. That's what many of the market who are investing in Bitcoin are looking for, a crypto-money.

BitSharesX is probably better suited to being a crypto-equity but there is an opportunity for a crypto-money spin off. It's possible in future the crypto-money would win the day. I mean do you want to hold a gold derivative with JP Morgan backed by shares of JP Morgan? Or do you want it backed by limited crypto-money?

The shareholders cannot change anything with respect to BitAssets or the peg would break, destroying their utility.

Ok good question.  I don't have the answer....but I would hope the answer would be that the bitshares toolkit core support would extend to all versions of BTSX.  Beyond that, the launching entity or equivalent to dacsunlimited (in the case of btsx) would launch the alternative.  The health of the Bitshares ecosystem would be measured in use/uptake of bitshares toolkit.

Keep in mind support is more than technical support even though that is incredibly important as well. It includes things like getting partners who provide on-ramps for BTSXdilution but not BTSXnodilution. Pushing merchants to support accepting BTSXdilution (while ignoring to mention BTSXnodilution at all). Paying for the cashback credit card reward and referral system that bytemaster talked about which would only work with BTSXdilution. Essentially building real world infrastructure and network effect (the sticky stuff unlike forkable code) around BTSXdilution. Sure, BTSXnodilution is able to free ride off of a lot of the hard work paid for by BTSXdilution holders beyond just the codebase (marketing can help people grok BTSXdilution, but then it also becomes super easy for them to also grok BTSXnodilution; once merchants setup accepting BitUSD on the BTSXdilution chain it isn't much of a burden for them to also accept BitUSD on the BTSXnodilution chain). However, it is still a huge risk to BTSXnodilution holders in terms of not getting enough user adoption and network effect, and at what cost? Perhaps double the fractional ownership of the stake? Doesn't mean very much if the market cap of BTSXnodilution ends up being 1000 times smaller than BTSXdilution.

Ideally it doesn't have to come down to a split of BTSX into BTSXdilution and BTSXnodilution. We could be all better off if we stay united and keep the larger network effect rather than compete with one another for user adoption and network effect. However, if staying united forces us to make bad decisions that can be an existential risk to BitShares X (remember in these early stages a fork of the code by stakeholders with much stronger network effect can easily kill us), then the best decision would be to split and let the smartest decision win.

mmmm all good points. Fortunately i'm left with a sense of hope!  I have been fortunate enough to witness the growth of this incredible community...born from the vision, integrity and technical skills of invictus and taken up by the legion of like-minded people they have attracted from all over the world.  I feel confident that the right choice will be reached.  I still think we have a lot left to try before dilution....
