General Discussion / A New Perspective on NuBits [BLOG POST]
« on: January 15, 2015, 12:14:51 am »
http://bytemaster.bitshares.org/article/2015/01/14/A-New-Perspective-on-NuBits/

I couldn't resist one last blog post because I didn't want the "Ponzi Post" to be the last post for a while.  After discussions on this forum I have adopted a new view on NuBits that is much more friendly and will make a better top post and hopefully repair some damage the last post may have created.

In any event, I did get some coding done today and will do more tomorrow.

General Discussion / NuBits backed by NuShares
« on: January 14, 2015, 08:57:14 pm »
I have seen a proposal for NuBits to be backed by NuShareholders but would like to delegate some research on the topic:

1) I believe NuShareholders can vote to issue new NuShares to buy NuBits and burn them.
2) How does value accrue to NuShares?

General Discussion / Bounty Idea
« on: January 14, 2015, 12:34:37 am »
I would like to propose a bounty idea... something on the order of 1 million BTS to the first delegate that can achieve at least 33% approval and be in the #1 slot for 1 month.

My thinking is that it will bring massive attention and incentive to vote / bring in new users to vote and help with security.

Only problem is it could make the votes "sticky" and hard to change.... thoughts?

The primary purpose of this post is to introduce anyone interested in NuBits to BitUSD with a clear comparison.

Edit by testz: Change subject to reflect blog subject, the link stay as is.

General Discussion / What is Bitcoin and why does it have value?
« on: January 12, 2015, 10:24:59 pm »
There is a vast difference between what something is and what it is used for. Money or currency is an attribute of how something can be used, but does not give us a clear understanding of what something is. Anything can be used as money provided it is sufficiently durable, divisible, fungible, transportable, and resistant to counterfeit. Cigarettes are a commodity but can be used as money. Gold and Silver are metals (also a commodity) that have been used as money. So what is Bitcoin when it is not used as money and why does it have value?

http://bytemaster.bitshares.org/article/2015/01/12/Decentralization-Scalability-and-Fault-Tolerance-of-Bitcoin/

Bitcoin is all about decentralizing the control over money through objective consensus on ownership. What often gets lost in the discussion is the difference between decentralization, scalability, and fault tolerance. Bitcoin is an example of a decentralized system whose scalability is limited by the power of an individual node rather than the combined power of all nodes. This means that a systems ability to become distributed for fault tolerance, decentralized for control, and scalable for performance are not linked together by the number of nodes. In fact we could say that attempts to combine these roles via the same mechanism will carry with it the combined limitations rather than the combined benefits. Hence economies of scale and free market competition will tend to minimize unnecessary fault tolerance (redundancy) while centralizing for performance. If we are not careful this will result in centralization of control.

General Discussion / Referral Program Starting Today
« on: January 08, 2015, 01:59:44 am »
We have put in the basic tracking on various sites to gather the data necessary for our referral program.   We have not yet decided on what the rewards will be, so for now you will be participating on speculation that you may get something.  Of course, you may not get anything either.... it is still under development.

If you would like to get credit for signing up new users to the BitShares ecosystem then you can add "?r=bts_account_name" after every URL on my blog or bitshares.org.

If someone follows one of your links and ends up registering an account with BitShares via the faucet then "bts_account_name" will be given credit.

We are working out more advanced referral incentives, but this should be good enough to get you all started.    Now go and spread links and generate traffic!
