General Discussion / Best Exchange Website
« on: November 05, 2015, 05:09:08 pm »
Could someone create a poll (preferably on bitcointalk, but also here) that asks people to vote for the best exchange website.

It would be great to have some real market research regarding which features people like, and which ones they do not.

We will be migrating BitShares GUI to copy as closely as possible the best interface out there.   We will also be copying the best fee system and best market rules.

Everyone seems to like poloniex margin trading, so we will adapt their rules unless Bitfinex is better.    Any help on identifying the best choices let us know.

We are going to stop trying to invent new market mechanics if at all possible and use what is proven to work.   So please help us identify places where our system deviates from the market-accepted solutions.

1.  Fee Systems
2.  Trading Interfaces
3.  Order Matching Rules

In other words, we want people to be able to use BitShares without having to learn anything new!

General Discussion / Short Term Roadmap
« on: November 04, 2015, 02:08:56 am »
1.  Prevent margin call from being triggered unless the price feed is less than call price  (popular demand)
2.  Refund 99% of order placement fees on cancel
3.  Split order-fill fees with referrers for all trades involving BTS
4.  Launch a Demo/Dev chain that gives all signups a significant balance and an opportunity to play with all of the features.

I am looking for any and all protocols that do not have a core token.  Any help doing this research would be appreciated.

So far I have Hyperledger and Interledger and perhaps Tao chain.

Ben and I have discovered the root cause for the loss of consensus and have a temporary fix that can be used by all witnesses.

The problem was a single field which we failed to serialize when saving chain state to disk.  Any node that didn't replay the chain on startup would have this field reset to 0.

We will be releasing a fix for this along with several other fixes by the end of the week.   In the meantime, all full nodes should always replay the blockchain on startup by using the --replay-chain argument.

If you want to be a muse witness or would like to follow a thread for updates, this is it.

I know some of you posted elsewhere that you were ready to be a witness, but it is hard for me to track down.  Please post again here.

General Discussion / CMC Exchange API
« on: October 26, 2015, 05:24:28 pm »
What kind of API does Coin Market Cap need to fetch stats?

I would like to make sure our API servers support it natively.

General Discussion / How to Lower Transfer Fees Now
« on: October 23, 2015, 05:23:35 pm »
Witnesses publish feeds which currently set the CORE EXCHANGE RATE for bitassets.   Witnesses can bias the core exchange rate so that paying fees is cheaper with BitUSD and other bitassets.

So long as the fee pool remains funded the fees will be effectively lower for this use case.

The "cost" of experimenting with lower fees should be relatively low for a supporter of such a move, all they need to do is keep the fee pool funded.

General Discussion / Lowering Transfer Fees
« on: October 21, 2015, 06:12:36 pm »
It seems like there is a lot of debate around the transfer fees and this debate is both good and bad.

I expect transfers to make up a relatively small part of BTS transaction types.  The vast majority of the fees will be paid in the market as people place orders.

Rather than having negative PR of "high fees" we can offer Transfers at a lower fee, while maintaining the higher fees for everything else.

If the transfer fee for normal users is equal to the BTC transfer fee then we cannot be accused of having "high fees".

If we lower the transfer fee from 40 BTS to 5 BTS then transfers will cost the same as bitcoin.   We can keep blind transfers at a higher price and keep market orders at 10 BTS.

It is just a question of asking ourselves what business are we in.    If we are in the exchange business then transfers can be nearly free because we make our money on exchanges.

Having something that is "cheap" allows us to advertize  "lowest transfer fees of any crypto-currency".

Thoughts?

General Discussion / Fee Adjustments
« on: October 20, 2015, 03:43:34 pm »
We have put through a proposal that will adjust the fees to keep them in line with our stated targets of $0.20 per transfer and will continue to adjust the fees to maintain this target as the price of BTS changes.

All fees will scale equally so the relative costs will be the same.

General Discussion / TRADE.BTC and TRADE.LTC are up and running
« on: October 16, 2015, 08:53:37 pm »
I just did a test run of depositing BITCOIN via TRADE.BTC  on the Deposit/Withdraw tab in the wallet and it worked.

I suggest you try it out and then look at this market.

https://bitshares.openledger.info/#/exchange/trade/TRADE.BTC_BTS

For trading BTC vs BTS on the blockchain.    This way you never have to trust your BTS to an exchange again.

General Discussion / Shout Out to the Exchanges
« on: October 15, 2015, 10:48:55 pm »
I would like to thank all of the exchanges that have successfully managed the migration to BitShares 2.0 in record time!  Namely poloniex.com!

Could people please post updates in this thread of exchanges that have re-enabled deposit and withdraw?

75
I would like to thank everyone who has joined in to become a witness and secure the BitShares network.

There are currently 27 unique witnesses excluding the init witnesses which will soon be phased out.   These 27 individuals have worked long and hard to help test and deploy BitShares 2.0 this week.

The BitShares network is the most decentralized in terms of witnesses.

I would like to see more people get out the vote and gain proxy power.    Having well known proxies will be helpful in decentralizing control over who the witnesses are.
