General Discussion / Committee Updates (General Thread)
« on: October 30, 2015, 07:11:28 pm »
After a long time trying to figure out how regular hangouts are possible with all committee members from around the world attending on a regular basis, I figured it might be better to have a running thread that is stickied in general and asks Committee members to update it as issues arise.  Not only is it beneficial to do this for transparencies sake, but also to store our history so we never lose where we came from.

I will tip 10 COPPERTOKEN to each Committee Member who regularly updates this thread.  Thank you for everything everyone!

General Discussion / Beyond Bitcoin Worker Proposal Funding (Poll)
« on: October 30, 2015, 07:49:54 am »
Beyond Bitcoin Hybrid Worker Proposal Exploratory Poll

Beyond Bitcoin would like to partner with Freebieserver's team and help them expand their community-building efforts far beyond the forum tipbot and shapeshift competitor.   We will continue offering the other services we have in the past (or iterations thereof, based on the new BTS governance/marketing structure), but would like to bring onboard a team of developers who understand the vision that I and the rest of the Beyond Bitcoin team have for our community.  This would also include building foundational elements that will enable things like DPOSHub to grow and prosper (while hopefully minimizing a large portion of the funding requirements that Cryptopro and Data are paying out of pocket).  And naturally, we would want to cover the initiatives that grow from it.

Now with that said, I am going to attach a poll to see what everyone thinks would be "fair" for funding a group of approximately eight volunteers and 4+ developers with extensive crypto, backend and UX/UI experience.  Please remember that paying for this worker proposal will likely give us the ability to give a high level of ownership to the products constructed and their returns on investment (ROIs).

So if this is done, we can essentially also call the Beyond Bitcoin worker proposal a hybrid Dev/Media/Community-building proposal...which also keeps us in line with what BM had hoped to see.  It is and always has been important to the Beyond Bitcoin team to give as much back as possible to our community and I dare say that most of our team has actually given more money/time than paid for working on this project over the course of 2 years.  However, the delegate did take away a large portion of those expenses and allow us to focus solely on what we have proven we do well.  And now what we do well could be expanding in ways that make me giddy.  The only issue right now is seeing if the funding we can provide Freebie and his team of devs will be enough to cover the bare minimum of expenses.

I am personally looking at getting a day or two more of work per week to help pay $500-700/mo to them in addition to the worker proposal funding, but I need to know what the community would vote for in terms of helping me pay our workers and them.  Thanks to This Worker Proposal Poll, I am confident we will get a worker voted in.  The only question at present is how much the community is willing to donate to a cause that has proven its intent to always give back as much as possible to the community...and add enough extra to build the kind of infrastructure no other crypto-community has.
Between myself and Freebieservers team, we have 26+ combined years of experience managing guilds/clans and other decentralized communities---we have a very good idea how to utilize those strategies to give BitShares' community a first mover advantage in the space...I just need someone to build it for us.

Please vote on the poll above and remember that over time any bts given us to build it will likely be burned by the infrastructure as it gains more and more profitability...with the intentions to essentially burn more than we received over time (which would make this proposal more like a loan).

If there are any questions and comments feel free to bring them on and I'll do my best to answer them. As always please try to be respectful and productive in your opinions and comments.

P.S.  I voted 20 billion dollars because my vote should not be counted in this (imho).

General Discussion / Jim Willie Hangout: Questions Thread
« on: October 26, 2015, 01:39:40 am »
We have confirmed another hangout with Jim Willie for Tuesday @11am EST.

Though I have a list of questions myself, I would like to once again open it up to the community members to let me know if anything they feel is important to include.  Ill send them to him sometime tomorrow if this thread has any included.  Otherwise, anyone is welcome to join!

Feel free to add them in this thread

General Discussion / Identifying BitShares Community Cornerstones
« on: October 23, 2015, 05:18:41 am »
**this thread is open until otherwise stated.  it may close at any time, so please participate now because waiting might keep you from acknowledging those who deserve your recognition!**

I am trying to compile a list of individuals who the bitshares community believes to be the most loyal, trustworthy and helpful members.  If you could please help me by listing individuals who you would like to personally thank for displaying these characteristics, I would be extremely grateful.

Try to keep in mind that im searching for people who you consider extremely valuable to bitshares.  Who you believe, if for some reason they left, would take a chunk of bitshares value with them.

Just a few caveats however:
1) list any projects they work on for the community(if possible)
2) one post will do it--please dont post multiple posts with 3 different people every time.  Nvm this one--post as many as you feel are necessary.  If it becomes ridiculous, I'll let you know.
3) there is no minimum number of people you can list...you may even list only one.
4) if someone else has listed one of yours already, please feel free to list them again...or add someone different who is not on the list.
5) please omit me from this list.  It might make me smile, but i dont need credit...only to rule the world with an iron fist (and ask you a seemingly endless slew of questions)!

P.S.  as we begin looking to form a committee, it is important we start looking to ourselves to help establish the individuals we think are great candidates.  Some of the most valuable people in BitShares will never ever speak up about their contributions.  Those people are the ones for whom we must advocate most...and I'm willing to bet we all know at least one person we feel meets this criteria.

P.P.S.  This MIGHT end up being a "browniable" event...

General Discussion / Worker Proposal to Level Up our Forums? (Poll)
« on: October 18, 2015, 06:44:40 am »
Would you support a worker proposal to have our forums upgraded the following proposal
The cost to have it done is 5k, but the cost to have it done and own the code would be 20k.

If you read up on what these forums will be able to do, it will blow your mind to realize that BitcoinTalk forums were made for 500k.  I personally believe this is a steal and so I am bringing it to the community and advocating its approval.  Please vote and give your opinion or ask questions and I or freebieservers will respond/answer whenever possible.

Bytemaster needs us to slay the monster of getting him a way to quickly and privately communicate with the community's init witnesses.

The first witness platform to get all active witnesses into it and proves so in this thread will receive 400 brownies. If this task is completed within 24 hours from the time of this posting and Bytemaster and myself are notified via pm, you will be awarded 50% more brownies (for a total of 600).

General Discussion / Identifying BitShares' Monsters. (Phase I)
« on: October 17, 2015, 02:47:23 pm »
From time to time it is good to look at where we are and identify what is required to make bts the best it can be.  Having a few focal points of established roadblocks that require our utmost attention, is imperative to most effectively help the dev team and community press forward in assuring bts remains in its rightful place.

This community is very active, but are we focusing our efforts and working together to work on the highest priority issues?  I call these issued bitshares' monsters.  And id like to form Raids of people to slay them...and pay them for leading and/or attending these raids.

If you could pick 3 of the monsters that most plague bts' growth and adoption, what would they be?

General Discussion / Brownie Hiring Tech Support? (Poll)
« on: October 17, 2015, 06:15:20 am »
Would you support our community paying individuals with strong tech skills to be available in Mumble for certain periods to help newbies migrate their wallets or help with other issues?  If yes, we could distribute Brownies to them for the number of hours they work with newbies.

The last time I checked, Brownies were something like 4 : 1 (bts : brownies) so a figure of 100-200 per hour should be like 400-800 bts/hr.  Not bad at all if you ask me...

Would this be something you support?

General Discussion / Code Learners Group -- Looking for Code Gurus
« on: October 15, 2015, 08:30:50 pm »
BitShares community has shown me in the past that they would be interested in starting up a coding group.   The platform I personally have looked at is CodeAcademy.com because it is completely free for users to utilize, and tracks progress in a way that is both transparent and manageable.

However, I am currently looking for a few people to volunteer to be "tutors" for this project.  If you are interested in this, there is much more I would like to talk to you about.  If interested, please list yourself below in this thread or PM me with the subject line "Code Tutor".

If you know someone who would be good for this (or even better, is already doing it IRL), please add them to this thread or pm me with their name(s).

Thank you everyone and I look forward to helping you form Voltron!

I would like to gather a list of communication channels currently available for witnesses.  Please let me know in this thread if you have one you currently control so I can add it to my list.

Below is the documentation for hangout attendance of our last hangout (9 OCT 15).

Please make sure to update your information in this spreadsheet so I can ensure you receive your brownies.

Check out the GChicken's Mumble Attendance Spreadsheet to cross reference.  If you find and prove I have made a mistake I will gladly fix it--as long as you add a detailed comment in the portion of the spreadsheet in question!

**Important**
Brownies have not been sent out yet due to some difficulties with transitioning to Graphene.   I will be trying to get this fixed today so I can have them sent out later...but please feel free to check the spreadsheet as I already have the attendance marked.
