General Discussion / Beyond Bitcoin Reddit (update)
« on: April 02, 2014, 06:03:36 am »
Beyond Bitcoin is still something I am working on (along with a few other little projects).  Now that my networking class is over I had time to put into "flaring" up the reddit.

http://www.reddit.com/r/BeyondBitcoinShow/ is the link in case you are interested in checking it out.

With that said, it is not finished and I am looking for other "coins" to put in the banner.  If you have one that is moving into the Bitcoin 2.0 space please post it along with the reason why you think it should be posted.

This is just the beginning so it will be a more "personalized" page when I am completely finished.

Projects I am working on right now:

-Baby (amazingly difficult project considering the diminutive nature of the little beast)
-School (Major: Psychology, Minor: Web Design/Networking)
-Images/Icons for:  Reddit page, Twitter Feed, Google+/Youtube accounts, and Blog Page
-Team Viral and friends(Looking into options for getting a Teamspeak server up and running for a moderate cost so we can all have a means of easily keeping in touch without the need for scheduled meetings)
-"What is a DAC"--Second half of the Draft.  (First half is completed and only needs slight alteration in light of comments from the community)
-"What is a DAC"--Slide Show
-Voice Over for Unimerico (haven't forgotten about you my friend!)

******************************************************************************************************************************
I am estimating completion around 1.5-2 months working alone.
With that said, if anyone is interested in helping out with any of these projects feel free to let me know.  If you have any insights please post them...and if you have any 2.0 coins you think should be on here please post links or embed below in responses.

*Note: A good image of NoirShares will likely go up if I can find a higher quality one.

General Discussion / First Half of "What is a DAC?" script
« on: March 17, 2014, 09:22:06 am »
I am kind of busy this week and next working on a homework assignment on network upgrades.  Suffice it to say, I am going to be a little busy.  However, I have scrounged up enough time over the past few days to work on a script for a video on "What is a DAC?"
Please feel free to review and change this script.  Thus far it only covers "Distributed" and "Autonomous", but as you will see toward the end the "Corporation" portion is coming.

I am posting it below:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To understand what a Distributed Autonomous Corporation is, we must first understand what makes it Distributed and Autonomous.  For this purpose, I have chosen a project called Project Phoenix…which was created by the Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence Institute (SETI).  As the name implies, SETI was searching for extraterrestrial life under the precepts that any alien races with technology similar to ours would also leave a footprint similar to that which is left by our technology.  The footprint for which they were searching were a range of radio waves that are emitted by many of our technologies here on earth.
To scan for these footprints, Project Phoenix would need around the clock, powerful computation for every second of every day for years.  However, SETI was a non-profit corporation that relied heavily on donations from NASA and other government-funded programs.  Due to this bottle-neck in funding, large and expensive centrally controlled server farms they needed for the computation made it cost prohibitive by conventional means.
From this conventional problem arose a rather unconventional solution.  This solution was one, if not the first, attempt to enlist individual citizens to donate a part of their Personal Computer’s (PC) computational power to collectively perform the same function as these costly, centralized server farms.  Thus it was Decentralized They asked science-lovers and geeks around the world to download a program that would effectively allow SETI to create their own Distributed version of the cost-prohibitive centralized server farms.  This program used their PC’s extra CPU cycles to search for the ET’s footprints.
Once the code was written and compiled into a program, it could be downloaded by the Geeks who wished to help find ET, they only needed to start it to be a productive worker in the network.  This program continually ran until the user stopped it or an error occurred.  Because this continual production via computation required little to nothing else from the user, it can be called Autonomous.
Participation in these projects was extremely high, but the incentive structure relied heavily on people’s curiosity about the existence of Extraterrestrial Life.  This is wonderful when doing scientific research for popular movements like finding aliens, curing cancer and aids…etc, but the issue still remains that those who join the network are replacing the central computing infrastructure are paid nothing for their contributions.
This brings us to the Corporation part of DAC.  Traditionally, a corporation offers investors and society value in the form of goods produced/sold and/or services rendered—or Value Produced.  The value of the corporation is quantified in terms of a designated number of units.  These units are in fiat currency, which is both directly and indirectly controlled by Central Authorities.
Currently there are many different fiat currencies, but most of them are ultimately controlled by Centralized Banking structures who loan these pretty (yet “intrinsically” worthless) pieces of paper, at interest, to a nation’s population through that nation's treasury…this puts a nation’s people in constant debt to the Central Banks.
or
Mike Maloney’s “Hidden Secrets of Money”: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=mike%20maloney%20hidden%20secrets%20of%20money&sm=1
Or
For a short and sweet, entertaining explanation, “The American Dream”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGk5ioEXlIM
“Hint:  Central Banks make us debt slaves and are owned by private individuals and their families in an Oligarchical structure. If you are not part of their club, you are indirectly their slave.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Please be honest with your criticisms and/or praise.  The Second portion is coming as soon as I can finish my project (hopefully far before the due date as I would prefer to work on the above) ;)

General Discussion / BTS-X Altcoin Competition/Promotion
« on: March 13, 2014, 05:20:51 am »
After taking some time to consider potential ways for indirect marketing, an idea came to mind:

There will be more than one BTS-X chain, with each having 16 BitAssets.  The first chain is the most common commodities / currencies currently traded.
However, what if Invictus were to announce a competition among Altcoin Devs to implement their own "(insert_coin)Shares" to use for bootstrapping the growth of their own infrastructure?  The first 16 altcoins to accomplish this will be placed in the first BitShares chain to allow the trading of altcoin futures.  These coins will not only benefit from the capital they receive from these investment vehicles, but they will also gain the benefit of higher price stability that comes along with infrastructure development and futures markets.  Lastly, any altcoins who accomplish this will also gain recognition from the BitShares community, which serves to help market their coins to a broader audience.

This would help BTS as well.  Each altcoin that signs onto this funding model will have a vested interest in promoting BitShares.  It will also give those altcoins/shares who have already signed onto the social consensus (MMC and NoirShares at the time of this writing) the added benefit of having priority access to Devs who have already accomplished this...practically guaranteeing a spot on the first chain (and in history).

This would be a win/win...unless I am missing something.

General Discussion / Basic Image for Beyond Bitcoin (with PTS Bias)
« on: March 12, 2014, 05:19:53 am »

After reading the article below, really started thinking about how similar this was to "protoshares" concept.  A protostar is an early star as it forms...when it finally collapses, an entire solar system complete with planets and (possibly) life. This was the inspiration for the image above.

Feel free to use/alter this if you want as I intend on making more of them as I learn the necessary skills to flesh out the social media sites we are constructing for "Beyond Bitcoin".

Quote
From:  Wikipedia -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protostar
Star formation begins in giant molecular clouds. These clouds are initially balanced between gravitational forces, which work to collapse the cloud, and pressure forces (primarily from the gas) which work to keep the cloud from collapsing. When these forces fall out of balance, such as due to a supernova shock wave, the cloud begins to collapse and fragment into smaller and smaller fragments. The smallest of these fragments begin contracting and become protostars.
As the cloud continues to contract, it begins to increase in temperature. The temperature increase is not caused by nuclear reactions but rather by the conversion of gravitational energy to thermal kinetic energy. As a particle (atom or molecule) falls towards the centre of the contracting fragment, its gravitational energy decreases. As the total energy of the particle must remain constant (due to conservation of energy), the reduction in gravitational potential energy results in an increase in the particle's kinetic energy. The kinetic energy of a group of particles is the thermal kinetic energy, or temperature, of the cloud. The more the cloud contracts the more the temperature increases.
Collisions between molecules often leave them in excited states which can emit radiation as those states decay. At the temperatures of a protostar (10 to 20 kelvins) most of the radiation is in the microwave or infrared range of the spectrum. At this early stage of star formation, most of this radiation escapes, preventing a rapid rise in temperature of the cloud. This stage of protostar evolution is known as the isothermal phase.
As the cloud contracts the number density of the molecules increases, making it more difficult for the emitted radiation to escape. In effect, the gas becomes opaque to the radiation and the temperature within the cloud will begin to rise more rapidly. The gas cloud still has much more gas at this stage, called a Class 0 protostar.
As the system evolves, more and more emission starts to come from the protostar rather than the surrounding dust and gas. In the Class I stage, the protostar is now about the same mass as the surrounding envelope.
The next stage of protostar evolution is the classic T Tauri star (a.k.a. Class II protostar). In this phase, the temperature increases substantially and this disk becomes substantially smaller than the protostar. In the final stage of protostar evolution, the temperature rises and the surrounding material becomes an order of magnitude smaller, becoming a Class III protostar ('weak' T Tauri star). [2]
Infrared measurements taken by the 2MASS and WISE astronomical surveys have been particularly effective at unveiling numerous protostars and their host star clusters.[3][4]

General Discussion / Help me understand why I should trust Ethereum...
« on: March 04, 2014, 08:07:51 am »
"ex" Goldman Sachs...really bothers me.  Why even take the risk of adding these people to the mix?

The stakes are very high and though I tend to believe in a good few conspiracies, I am trying to understand why I should not be concerned with "one block chain to rule them all", "ex" Goldman Sachs "advisors", a pyramid structure placed in the logo (though, thank god, no "all-seeing eye"), and the token ironically being called "Ether".  Any one or even two of these would not be so bad...but all of these together make me want to go back and get my tin-foil helmet...and armor.

I will check back here periodically to read the answers...and hope I can be convinced that Bitcoin technology is not being co-opted by "low level" individuals with historical ties to known Terrorist Banking Cartels.

For now, back to work!

General Discussion / Community Hangout Name Vote
« on: February 24, 2014, 09:19:47 am »
####################################################################################################################################################################################################
I am setting up a Hangout-style video interview series.  The first thread can be located here if you wish to know more about it:  https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=2572.15 .  It will basically try to focus on issues that are helpful to the PTS community, Development team and, perhaps most importantly, breaking this down to a little less technical level to help encourage wide adoption.
####################################################################################################################################################################################################

The following is an excerpt from my description of the general concept for the Hangout, in the case you prefer only a cursory glance.  Any questions will be answered via the email

Pre-production

Scripting? Questions?  The community could post questions in a forum thread initially or a portion of the show centered on them.  (Bytemaster, a media "category" in the forums would be beautiful).  Of course people could also show up and ask questions when we are live, but I know I always have questions for Devs even if we get few people at first.  My hope for this would be to make it in the spirit of cryptocurrency--decentralized.  I'll gladly "host" a channel though.

Should there be an introduction video? Of course!, and I'm sure ByteMaster would let us use clips of their own for certain instances.

What's the format? Different each time? A) Google Hangout(s) with news, conversations with Devs and Forum "brains", Talk about the potential of DACs.   B) consider 1 hour of a 2 hour show to be "structured", with 1 hour hangout.

Quality
How will it be entertaining?  Sometimes it might not be, but the great thing about things today is that "best of clips" could be compiled by community members who love to do those things...or perhaps another model will eventually take shape.  Someone will eventually fill that hole just like you are stepping up to ask these questions ;)

How will it be informative?  The hour of structure will talk about basics, news, sociopolitical "deep" questions...perhaps let "newbies" show up and ask questions during a certain portion (with backup material in the case noone shows up)
HD? HD shouldnt be too hard using Google Hangouts, but I personally hope it can be inclusive of a broader audience...unless their equipment is TERRIBLE ;P

Production

Where/how will it be filmed?    Personally like Google Hangouts (until a decentralized solution exists)...or in a Haunted Cemetery.

How will it be post-edited?     I will definitely play with it and edit it.  Will probably make a blog to post links to news, youtube vids...etc.  But I think it would be awesome if noone "owned" them.  Just post it under BitSharesCommunity or something to that effect and let other channels grow out of people doing their own work to the clips.

Promotion

Where will it be posted?     Posting through popular social networking sites will be a good start.  I personally love that Decentralized platforms can, if done correctly, incentivize participants to work to add value to the network (thus increasing the value of their stake).
If ByteMaster puts a "Media" Category in their forums, I would be glad to post pertinent videos there and would love to see others do the same (make it a kind of video social video blog).

How will it be advertised?  Good question on the Advertising.

As for the rest, we will see how this goes.  I want to be there and make this thing my baby, but I dont want it centralized around me.  I also would like to eventually find someone who is willing to call me out when I'm an ass.  If it even matters what "I" want, in this.  Opinions from the community should be of utmost importance.  The next step would be to open a thread (I'll figure this out) that asks some important questions as to how the community would like to bootstrap this.  The up votes are starting to get high enough for me to take notice...and obviously it is the same with Bytemaster :)

I'd love to help build project...

####################################################################################################################################################################################################I also plan to have only a address that I will use to accept for a wallet donations, but will focus primarily on bringing individuals "from the field" to speak, provide content and advertise their ideas, allowing them to accept tips for the content they provide.  A (as of this moment) basic form, with instructions can be found at this location:  https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=3033.0

MemoryCoin / Google Hangout for all Social Consensus-Honoring DACs
« on: February 17, 2014, 01:01:17 pm »
I am currently in the planning stages of building a community Hangout for all Social Consensus Honoring "DACs" and their key community members.  My current plans are finalized (though never completely set in stone if a better idea arises).  The primary plan is to Interview Developers of DACs that honor the social consensus model and of DAC utilities (such as Dark Wallet, Electrum...etc) who provide infrastructure for the community.

Secondary plans are to enable community members to forego advertisements (for my own personal gain) to post their own work (along with their wallet Barcode) for display on the show for tips from the community, enable community members to post their own bounties with contact information, during and before, and to enable users to submit questions for popular Developers and vote on which ones will be asked in the forums.

It will be a Google Hangout with Chat enabled, but only with video and audio for the guests and hosts.  It will last approximately 2 hours.  The first hour will be a "hangout" period, during which I will cycle through a number of advertisements that the community creates and will attempt to answer questions in chat...along with the potential of drawing especially pertinent questions from there as well.

Of course I will have my own questions if need be, but I hope those of you who are interested in participating (MMC community deserves this opportunity for honoring the social consensus) will gain primarily insight from you...the community.

Please visit the provided link to give me your opinions, to vote it up (or down) and to hopefully contribute a potential name to the pot.  We will likely vote on the name as well.
https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=2572.0

My sole intent on this is to help people understand the power of directing the "force" that is our community and allowing it to guide us with its invisible hand.  As such I will remain Pseudonymous and generally out of "view".  I will only ask questions and will attempt to make this hangout a "Tabula Rasa" only to be colored by the hands of community.

(P.S.  If you would like to hear from MMC's Dev's, please let them know about it.  Their fame among in the crypto-space will only help your bottom line)

2 hours of discussion...much of it funny, some of it eerily frightening in the potential layout of "gov regulation" in the crypto-space.

IMO, not frightening because of gov regulation's dominance, but rather for the potential of many community members being punished for participating in this community.  Very interested to hear comments.
