I think we need both gambling and prediction markets.

and bond market. problem is we can't have everything at the same time. We should define what would be the most important thing for BitShares. Then once the GUI is ready we would move onto it.

Actually I bet if we used our workers to pay top dollar for good work, we could get MANY things done over the course of a couple years....

How hard would it be to enable other coins that are put on our exchange to use our baked in separations of power and stake-based voting the ability to tweak our bts governance features to enable altcoin communities to vote for changes in their native chain?

We obviously wouldn't be able to have witnesses voted in (unless, perhaps, they put their tokens away to get an equal voting stake in bitshares, thus losing their voting ability in their native token's chain), but they could use it to form committees, which are simply decentralized and accountable foundations that have their members voted in (and out) and also vote on TokenImprovement Projects via worker proposals paying in their token.

Example:
1) We get a BTC sidechain and it enables all those who put their token into the bitshares ecosystem to vote with stake-weighted voting based on the total number of BTC in existence (or really any variation is possible...right? :) ).
Bob enters the bitshares ecosystem with 100 BTC and can now vote with his stake on how bitcoin should move forward.

2) We start advertising a service to help gather data on the opinions of Bitcoin Users with regard to BIP projects and other various politically heated debates (politically-heated = coverage).  It could be similar to how Data, Xeroc, Bhuz and the other committee members do it, or we could leave it up to those who choose to become committee members for Bitcoin.
Bob reads the new BIP and adds it to be voted on as he knows he will receive Governance Points (one of many "valueless" tokens that act as badges of honor to mark people who are most active in various ways).  He uses an easy to use interface to add the proposals link via the wallet.

3) We make it easy for people who set up voting proposals to send links that simplify the process of turning BTC into SIDE.BTC.
Bob gets the vote link and uses it to send people to an interface with 5 steps:
a) Create Wallet
b) Move your BTC to the stake-voting network!
c) Congratulations! You have now received n number of voting tokens for this proposal!
d) Vote on this proposal!
e) Share this proposal with others! (and earn a specific amount of SIDE.BTC, and accompanying extra voting tokens!) <----amount paid could be based on conversion % of users who end up paying for LTM.

4) We make it possible for other tokens to do this.
Bob reaches out to his buddy who is a huge whale in LTC and DOGE....telling him he can not only help improve governance by the owership in these chains, but that we can also gain referral fees out the wazoo for advertising the service.

5) We make it possible for other tokens holders in this ecosystem to temporarily exchange their tokens for BTS to vote on our ecosystem's growth.  They would only gain access to BTS for voting privileges and not to sell them, so the BTS could be purchased far more cheaply for this reason because it would lock up those bts as well as other tokens that are on the BTS network, making for fewer bts, and sidechain tokens available for trade.
Bob thinks something that a worker needs to be voted out.  He knows that the "legacy" bitshares holders will not vote him/her out due to what he perceives as collusion and corruption.  So although Bob does not want to sell his BTC to buy bitshares directly, thus taking on the risk of holding a more volatile crypto, he instead chooses to buy bitshares from others ONLY for the voting power.  So he pays others at the market rate (which will likely be cheaper than bts) to get a far larger voting stake for a period of time...thus taking them off the market.

Thoughts on this idea?

Forgive me if this already available somewhere, but a search of the forum didn't turn up anything. Does anyone know if there is a BitAsset that's pegged to a market cap weighted basket of the top ten cryptocurrencies?   I think cryptocurrencies are going to explode in value, but god if I can predict which ones.  I'd like an easy way to buy / sell the market as a whole.  Does this exist already?

ETF equivalents for other market baskets would also be helpful (S&P 500, metals, etc)

i have talked about orecisely this thing in mumble with bm probably over a year ago now. funny how these ideas spring up again. i take it as a testiment to the validity!

Muse/SoundDAC / Re: Requesting a Mumble with Peertracks CEO
« on: March 17, 2016, 02:39:26 am »
hehe.... this cob guy is really funny.

again: Scams work this way. The guys behind these projects act the same all the time! They come up strong with nice words showing "full" support for their investors, then they disappear for another week or two hoping that the crowd has enough to stay calm.

And this repeats over and over for weeks or months.

I already mentioned ltcgear, but there are a lot of others out there

same great words and no results. It was a typical ponzi scheme but this scammer fooled a lot of people including me.

There is NO trust in this business as long as those projects dont perfom. I dont care what cob is talking here or in the slack channel, it is basically hot air until there is nothing working, no roadmap or anything like it.

In case there wont be anything released in the next few weeks I hope this time they will face legal consequences. I guess cob wont have any problems with that, they seem to have a really solid legal departement installed

HAHAHAHAHAH

in sorry to have failed in getting the mumble with them.  since i couldnt, i will tell you what inhave heard and will do so with the caveat that it is just what i have heard...

i have been told they behind the scenes they are doing a peertracks crowdfunder of some sort.  now bm and stan were not my sources on this but the source is someone i trust.

i wouldnt say the project is dead, because if this is true they might be able to use what they have currently built as a mvp to upsell people who donate to their campaign.

time will tell if my info is correct.

DAC PLAY / Re: We got scammed?
« on: March 16, 2016, 04:00:48 am »
Soon there will be an update with dice game base on javascript & google V8 engine.

I expect a more detailed feedback...

@fuzzy
I know they gave you a bunch of Play's at the beginning so you can distribute them further to the community(?)... so I expect you are still "MUCH" involved with that particular project... any news we can get from your side?

to my knowledge they never ended up giving them to me. we WERE going to do a esports match and get community members and others onboard to compete for a huge pot.   but it never manifested.

i still would love to help play though since they sharedropped our community. just dont think they need me at present or they would probably tell me :P

Technical Support / Re: Why annual memberships are going away
« on: March 14, 2016, 06:19:49 pm »
Unless you actually referred annual members...those referrers get screwed.

Most of the 31 annual members were either registered by OpenLedger or existed at genesis.  There are exactly four actual referrals of annual memberships, by three people.  If the community thinks reimbursing them is important, it would be possible to set up a worker to pay them manually (or make arrangements with an existing worker to do this).  One of those four annual memberships upgraded to LTM on its own, so their referrer has already been paid.  The remaining two referrers (two of the three accounts were referred by the same referrer) are:

1.2.97634 (referred annual member in block #3028579)
1.2.32176 (referred annual members 1.2.97382, 1.2.101152 who upgraded in blocks #1391978, #3255854)

Not against getting rid of annual membership for the time being because i too believe it is not the most important inclusion. however i must say that drawing meaning from the data of the existing experiment is not as simple as you suggest. there are many other factors that come into play. most namely is the UI and UE.  most people who have joined us have done so at a time when the wallet was not at all user friendly...which i believe is one of the primary reasons most our marketing efforts have yet to have paid off.

remember that any of these studies that showed the effectiveness, if done correctly, have been tested in environments when the final product was considered finished so this element would not bias results.  i personally do not know of which studies you are talking about though.

if you want ill gladly look over them :)

General Discussion / Re: BitShares vs Ethereum

this summer

Do I sense another exciting edition of "BitShares Summer Announcements" on the horizon? tbh those "Winter Storm Warnings" just weren't doing it for me...

 :P

I prefer we all go out and actively try to get people to join our little motley crew instead of asking when others will make it happen.

If anyone wants to know the "secret sauce" it literally comes down to us all doing as much as we can and trying to not lose focus of what WE can do to help (as opposed to getting upset about others' failures while they are throwing their hat in the ring.

Love you @btswildpig but seriously bro, has every single thing you have worked on worked out?  I assure you it hasn't.  Unfortunately for Stan, he is in the position where he has to show people the possibilities without  making promises because complete silence will be taken as "nothing is going on".  So I for one am very happy he comes on and gives us the updates of what could "potentially" be on the horizon.  I mean look how little the community knows about PLAY and MUSE these days...  And I assure you that silence has many in the community too concerned to buy in.  So which has been more valuable I guess is the question.  If silence was, then I'd imagine MUSE and PLAY would be higher substantially than BTS.

According to CFA guidelines which I have been reading lately , suggesting people what the price of a speculative/investment object will be by a person at a unique position constitutes potential misrepresentation .
You can predict price , he can't . There might be consequence someday if the space is more regulated .

schooled on regulation.  My oh my how it strangles the invigorating contest for freedom and innovation *sigh*.  I must certainly agree that these are potential issues...

General Discussion / Re: Ethereum price discussion
« on: March 14, 2016, 03:21:26 am »

This chart shows two parallel trends. ETH has corrected to the bottom of the upper trend channel. If ETH drops below 0.0270, it could freefall down to 0.0200 and then stabilize somewhere inside the lower trend channel.

Some of the major alts appears tied to ETH's fortunes, so if ETH drops again, BTS might follow.

One variable: ETH is now trading on chbtc.com. To what extent will Chinese demand effect the price of ETH?

greatly.

I have no idea what kind of budget you're currently working with, and this was my first search attempt. Compared with low end VPS this seems dirt cheap to me. I also like to checkout the Web Hosting Talk forum for useful tips, promos and reviews.

https://www.namecheap.com/hosting/dedicated-servers.aspx

Lowest cost for a quad core, 8GB RAM, 500GB dedicated server is $58 / month. I use this company for domain names, find them easy to work with plus they accept crypto as payment (Bitcoin).

The link provides all the specs. The lowend uses 2 x 100Mbps connections. Traditional hardware (UDIMM RAM, standard rotational disks).

#sharebits Thom 5 COPPERTICKET - I greatly appreciate you always helping out Thom.  :)

we all work together to help bitshares along and every single second someone uses to help improve what we have going for us is just more value added to the end product. :)

I have heard that digital ocean is the best for the money joey, but not sure if this is true.  What I heard, though, was that they are about as good with respect to quality, but about 50% cheaper (or more) than Google and AWS.

I am not good at speaking english, reading and listening is ok but you would have hard times trying to understand me  :P
Anyway, I do my best to be at every hangout, will be there on Friday & Sunday.
Never hesitate to send me questions in PM, Synergy is the key  :D

I'm doing a little video tutorial on how to do Twitter + Zapier + Sharebits and start spreading your tokens.
Will post it here as soon as it's ready (before friday)  ;D

Looking good thus far.  I need to keep you up to date on some things.  Don't put toooo much work in it yet because the user interface is planned to have a revamp.
:)

#sharebits "DestBest" 250 SHAREBIT tokens!

Real quick...what if we can buy bonds with smartcoins and when we do that, we receive a % of interest paid to them.  that way you essentially have to lock those funds up to get the % interest.  at this point, smartcoins would be held by risk averse people and unable to be sold.
