General Discussion / Bter deposits stuck?
« on: January 20, 2015, 10:14:56 pm »
Anybody else having problems depositing BTS to bter post-hardfork?

Does anybody here have much to do with Gliss from CMC? We should ask him to include this trading pair in his BitUSD price/volume calculations: https://bter.com/trade/btc_bitusd

There seem to be at least 2 market maker bots running on that pair, and volume is picking up.

General Discussion / Making the BTC/BitUSD market on Bter
« on: January 01, 2015, 09:37:28 pm »
Hey all,
Just wanted to let the community know that I've started attempting to add some liquidity to the BTC/BitUSD trading pair on Bter: https://bter.com/trade/btc_bitusd. I haven't put much money on there, but I'm hoping that the trading pair gets some action and I end up getting the opportunity to put up more cash.

Random Discussion / A glorious gem I found
« on: December 12, 2014, 02:05:04 am »
Some delightfully crazy person on Nxt is launching a self-proclaimed ponzi scheme and it is well worth wasting a few minutes to read their ramblings. Their main pitch seems to be "everything island the world is a ponzi scheme, so you should trust ours and give us money." https://nxtforum.org/index.php?topic=6922.msg138526.msg#138526

General Discussion / Do shorts fill below the price feed?
« on: December 03, 2014, 07:16:46 pm »
For a brief period today, BitCNY was trading at a huge premium to real CNY. I entered a couple small shorts to try to take advantage of the opportunity, and it looks like it worked, but I wanted to get it from a dev:

When a bitAsset trades at a premium, do shorts fill at the price feed, or do they fill at the ask price (which is below the price feed)? Obviously, it is absolutely crucial that the answer be the latter. It's not usually been an issue for BTS because most of the time, BitAssets trade at a discount. But if they suddenly start trading at a premium, it's essential that people can profit by short selling.

Meta / The graveyard is full, and there is no Music subforum anywhere
« on: November 13, 2014, 03:28:18 pm »
If we're just going to use the Graveyard as a repository for "all projects that are not BTS," (which, imho, is dumb) then MUSIC should have a board there. Am I blind, or is there now literally no music board on the forum?

General Discussion / At hard fork, will there be a flood of margin calls?
« on: November 12, 2014, 03:05:39 pm »
The release notes on 4.24 say "Fixed market bug that prevented expired margin positions from being called." Will all the expired margin positions that were not called in the past week suddenly execute on block 991700?

General Discussion / Is something wrong with automatic covering?
« on: November 07, 2014, 11:00:22 pm »
I only ask because I was hoping to see one trigger today, but it doesn't seem to have happened. There are two BitUSD margin orders listed as "expired" in the GUI, and I believe one expired yesterday and the other expired today. However, if you look at the bitUSD supply chart, the supply of bitUSD hasn't changed since a tiddle since almost 2 days ago (about 01:30 UTC November 6). What's up with that? The supply of bitUSD should have decreased when the auto-cover orders expired, right?

General Discussion / OmniBazaar: social-consensus-rejecting BTS fork
« on: November 07, 2014, 01:41:14 pm »
Hey folks, I'm here to snitch on a new crypto project, OmniBazaar/OmniCoin that announced on Bitcointalk a couple weeks ago that is openly forking BitShares to use TITAN and DPOS. They're trying to set up some kind of decentralized ebay, I gather. Their coin has one of these weird distribution models where they just give coins away for free. Despite this, they are not airdropping to AGS/PTS.

If you're someone who cares about this, throw some comments at their ANN thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=835575.0

General Discussion / If someone shorts bitGLD, I'll buy!
« on: November 05, 2014, 02:56:45 pm »
I'm looking to buy about 0.1 bitGLD at the feed price, but there are no shorts. Place a short and I'll buy it!

General Discussion / To PTS holders: trade for BTS right now at a discount
« on: November 01, 2014, 02:58:07 pm »
Right now, PTS is trading on Bter at 0.00514, while BTSX is at 0.0000447. One PTS entitles you to about 100 to 105 BTS after Nov 5, but these BTS will not be immediately liquid. What this means: If you sell your PTS now and buy BTSX, you'll get about 15% more BTS after the snapshot than you would if you held PTS; in addition, these BTS will be immediately liquid so you won't have to wait through the 2 year vesting period.

I've already converted all my PTS to BTSX, but I thought I'd point this out to people who haven't yet - I want to sell PTS for BTSX right now so bad that I hope someone gets to do it. :)

General Discussion / How do margin calls work these days?
« on: October 30, 2014, 04:11:39 pm »
As I understand it, margin calls execute based on the median price feed, right? Is there a delay before a margin call executes? I'm guessing we've seen a pile of margin calls today, but currently the price feed for USD is around 59.1 but there's a margin order with a call price of 58.15. When will that order execute?

Also, does the automatic margin call buy up asks one-by-one or does it place an order at the feed price and blow a ton of the shorter's collateral by overlapping orders?

Basically, I'm realizing that I have absolutely no idea how automatic margin calls have been implemented. Anyone care to point me in the right direction?

General Discussion / Why all the 40% interest rate shorts?
« on: October 29, 2014, 02:35:16 pm »
I'm definitely not complaining about the insane interest rate people are offering, but I have a feeling the explanation is considerably more silly than that:

I bet people are entering 40, thinking it's a price limit, not an interest rate. Why else would someone offer 40% when the next best offer is 10%?

Anyway, let's keep the high interest rates going. Looking grand.

One of the pressing questions we face in the long-term is the issue of 3rd-party DAC developers and who they should airdrop to. Here are the options that I've seen discussed (my favorite option is #3 or #4, btw):

1. We could leave AGS as-is, and port only PTS into GENESIS (user-issued asset on BTS). That way, GENESIS is essentially PTS 2.0, and we preserve the idea that AGS is the illiquid share class, PTS is the liquid one.

2. There have been at least two proposals (by Shentist and emski, I believe) to create a user-issued asset on the new BTS called GENESIS and snapshot it 50/50 AGS/PTS. Then new DACs would honor GENESIS with a 20% snapshot. I'm not crazy about combining AGS with anything like that. IMO, AGS should be left alone (disclosure: I own only 12 AGS; I'm not speaking from dishonest bias here).

3. Let PTS end, but preserve AGS. Now, 3rd-party devs would be recommended to honor 10% AGS and 10% BTS. It does still give a slight preference to pre-Feb28 donators, but only a slight one, and preserves the original intentions of AGS. It ends PTS, which simplifies the marketing message (PTS was always a weird idea, don't you think?).

4. Invictus has floated the idea that they should honor the new BTS with 20%. The rationale is that the new BTS snapshotted AGS/PTS and thus honoring BTS is like honoring AGS/PTS. The dramatic flaw in this proposal is that it gives a huge preference to pre-Feb28 AGS donators. For that reason, I strongly oppose this option because it's severely unfair to those who donated after the original BTSX snapshot.

Discuss.

General Discussion / GUI Feature Request: Total account value
« on: October 23, 2014, 09:45:05 pm »
It would be awesome if I could go somewhere in the client and see account totals. Here's a sample list of data that would be nice:

Total short of bitXXX
Total long of bitXXX (with a subcategory showing how much is on orders)
Total BTSX (with a subcategory showing how much is on orders)
Total BTSX collateralizing my margin orders
Net Account value: add up all longs (including those in open orders), all shorts, all collateral, and whatever else to show "here's how much my wallet is worth."

The last one could even be two values: one based on price feeds and one based on actual current market prices. This latter would represent "how much my wallet would be worth if I went through and manually traded everything to BTSX."
