General Discussion / Re: so many transaction now,is it normal?
« on: December 13, 2014, 12:09:15 am »
What was the story with this, why all the transactions?

Part of the transactions were expected due to normal work of feed scripts.
Part of the transactions were expected due to delegates updating public data fields.
Part of the delegates missed their slot so others need to register more transactions into the blockchain.
There was indeed higher TPS but the script in question wasn't the main cause.

When the price is changing fast we should have frequent feed updates, right?

General Discussion / Re: Who will create new pegged assets in the future?

Some of those already exist, don't they? I'm almost positive that LTC does anyway. They're just waiting for enough delegates to publish feeds.

I'm thinking maybe I'm on a fork; "get_info" says that delegate participation is 4.43% and I'm stuck downloading blocks at 1246468. Will I have to re-download the blockchain? If so, how do I ensure that I ultimately end up on the right fork?

Or maybe the answers to this question are too complicated and I should just wait for smarter people to fix everything...

Technical Support / Re: need help with registration

I did not register "micah" on July 23 so perhaps that is the problem?-  It was closer to November 23.  When I could never get it to show up under my accounts that is when I "created a new account" with micah118 and that would have been around the 5th of December like you state.

When I originally requested you guys to fund it so I could open it, I also tried to transfer some bitshares (from Bter) so that would have been to the "micah" account. I did it with the account key. I only did it once and not very many shares.  I have downloaded bitshares on my desktop and another laptop can only get "micah118" to show up on one of them under my accounts but it is still not funded even though someone on the forum states that they did and I funded it with the new faucet site.

So you have micah118 showing up on one of your computers. That's good. For now, plan to have different accounts on different computers. I hate to recommend this, but as long as Bitshares is a young technology you'll be better off if you don't try to access a single account from two different computers. This is because of Bitshares' TITAN privacy stuff; it currently makes it very awkward to transition a wallet from one computer to another.

On the computer where "micah118" shows up, it shows up in your list of "my accounts," right?

Unfortunately the account name "micah" is taken; it looks like someone squatted it when BitsharesX first launched back in July. So that's a shame, but at least you got micah118. You withdrew from Bter to "micah..." I wonder who controls that account? It might be that some forum member does, in which case it's remotely possible that you can get the funds back.

Ok, right now, the BitShares network is in complete disarray (because of a bug in the latest wallet version) so I'm not going to try to send you new funds until the issues have been resolved. Sit tight, and as soon as the network gets sorted, I'll send you some test funds to the micah118 account.

Technical Support / Re: Nov 5th PTS snapshot
« on: December 12, 2014, 02:31:31 pm »
I downloaded the new version of bit shares but I haven't received any BTS yet. I imported my PTS wallet

The new BTS have not been distributed yet. Have you run the wallet_check_sharedrop command on the console in the new BTS wallet? That's a way to check to make sure you're all set up to get some BTS in the sharedrop.

One issue I see is yPool requires more than 100 confirmations before you can withdraw your funds.
All the PTS BM paid for returning the donated PTS are in their possession ATM and I doubt they will be released until the snapshot.

Oh, the high transaction fees. That's not great... do you know offhand how many blocks it's been since BM returned the funds?

Some delightfully crazy person on Nxt is launching a self-proclaimed ponzi scheme and it is well worth wasting a few minutes to read their ramblings. Their main pitch seems to be "everything island the world is a ponzi scheme, so you should trust ours and give us money." https://nxtforum.org/index.php?topic=6922.msg138526.msg#138526

Why is the initial margin requirement fixed anyway? As you explained it protects the user and not the system, so everybody should be able to choose according to their own risk affinity.

Fungability.   if each user chooses a different requirement then bitUSD is not fungible.

The margin requirements are a property of the short position and they are not fungible anyway. The BitAssets would always be fungible, no matter what magins apply to the short positions.

The initial margin requirement is lower-bounded, so if you want to put more collateral you can. I think.

Technical Support / Re: Bitshares pts

I have some PTS on the Cryptsy Exchange. I see some posts in this thread disussing that I should withdraw them(!)

Can anyone please advice some other Exchange I could transfer my (old) PTS to, that will manage the conversion of my (old) PTS to (new) PTS, or must I move my PTS to a private wallet (any recommendations?).

A private wallet is always about 10x safer than an exchange. However, if you absolutely can't do a private wallet, Bter has been quite good about honoring snapshots.

Careful though - early on, the Sparkle dev said he was going to recommend that no exchange honor the snapshot. Like I said, you're always safer with a private wallet.

For the unaware:

Bter is honoring the 14 Dec snapshot.

Are they honoring it for Sparkle? I believe they only mentioned it for the DPOS upgrade.

Here's a thought: revive the dying MemoryCoin by upgrading it to DPOS. Then the bitshares folks will notice you again :)

i am feeling strange. Did you post it in the past? I have a huge deja vu experience here.
It's not just you.  I think this person posted this before and deleted the thread and re-posted.

Something's fishy with the forum. Note that the timestamps of the first 5 posts on this thread are all identical. We're reading an old conversation that says it all happened instantaneously today...

Which type of private wallet do you recommend? BitShares-PTS v1.0.0?

Yes, that's the one I use. Make sure to encrypt your wallet and back it up somewhere safe.

Technical Support / Re: BTER & EgoPay wallet funding
« on: December 10, 2014, 03:40:28 pm »
Wow, I never thought it would be that complicated to buy crypto.  :-\
Of course I am a total newbie but if you don't know how, it can really test your patience.

Now, I think it is a good lesson if we want BTS to be accessible to the audience who don't know about BTC.

Basically, I went to bter.com to buy BTS. But then I have to buy from EgoPay because they don't accept fund.
Once in EgoPay, I can't fund directly from my CC, I have to open a Payza Account?

Or I can use on of those weird looking exchange where everything is in russian?

Now am I doing something wrong here or it's normal to have to go through so many loops just to buy BTS?

Yeah, egopay with Bter is pretty terrible and expensive.

But you make a good point! We should have a newbie "how to go from fiat to BTS" guide on the wiki.

General Discussion / Re: BitShares v0.4.25-RC1 Feedback

bitAsset:bitAsset markets are not working in the Windows GUI and were not working in 0.4.24 either. It's letting me submit orders, but the orders are not matching. Also, it says "insufficient feeds" at the top.
