Can we move all of this work over to the github.com/bitshares/bitshares.org repository under the bitshares/dns/  directory...

No since in documenting everything a half dozen different places.

Interesting idea! But if you tell a community that there coin is flawed and they would get 0.1% of AGS/PTS for that they might feel insulted because they still believe in their coin otherwise they would be part of that community anymore. Also if it is a community of a flawed/ pointless coin then you get a lot of people to the Bitshares community that have a flawed understanding of technology and / or economy.

You're right that is the challenge, not so much technical but rather: who and how to approach prospects without creating a hostile environment. The criteria for selecting acquisition candidates and presenting the value proposition to them is job 1. That coupled with a friendly face and a closer...

But, having said that, what's to stop us from launching say a "DOGE DAC" offering BitShareDOGE shares at a very favorable ratio to all those paying with DOGE. In essence pulling off a de-facto  hostile takeover. Oh, and of course honoring the AGS/PTS social contract.

Kah Ching !

I've posed this question on other 2.0 forums with mixed responses:

Is there merit to developing a "Blockchain Migration Path/Strategy", where one coins ledger is merged onto a DAC ?
Is it technically feasible?
What are the logistic challenges?
What would be the ideal merger(s) ?

Note, the intent is not to create a chain/coin to rule them all. But rather, a solution that embraces legacy chains that merit assimilation/consolidation under one organization family (BitShares).

Think of it as acquisitions of unprofitable alt-chains for the purpose of turning them around. These chains would ideally bring assets (developers, healthy forums, brands, merchants, etc...). As part of the acquisition, they would receive compensation as share swaps or even cash.

It seems DACs should be free to grow both organically and via mergers/acquisitions. The synergies and economies of scale benefits are many. But, the devil is in logistics, reconciliation and selection of candidates.

Any thoughts on this, the question has haunted me for about a year now, with the rise of 2.0, a window may be opening.  :-\

I know of one example where something similar to this is being actively considered by a 3rd party.  We'll have to wait to see what they do.

In principle, this could be accomplished for any existing coin.  If Dogecoin wanted to release a dividend-paying version of itself, they could simply grab the BitShares Security Model and honor all their shareholders in a snapshot of their current chain.

Poof!  Instant doubling of their footprint on coinmarketcap.

I'm glad to hear it's being explored somewhere (if not here, wink wink).
I would guess, in the not to distant future we'll see several mergers. Doge would be an example of a coin with much to offer and gain in such a merger.

I will review them and consider adding them to the website.

Cool, I'll publish the set of tools used and project artifacts if you decide to promote them. :)

I've posted 6 BitShares FAQ Animated Videos

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5JEewc0v87VMXWwGBsiRZRCzfx3wpwOP

I've improved on the text to speech actors, but there is no substitute for the human voice (yet). Translations are in the works for several languages. I likely will not have time to sync the speech and actors lips for the various languages. Instead I'll simply use a dubbed translation track with the video.

Feel free to throw tomatoes and/or other garden veggies, no bottles please.   8)

Wow really great work. The improved voices are very good. Good enough that there is no need for the human voice if it's to much trouble.

thanks, as all things it's a work in progress.

As I understand it they were looking for a go-to company that employs a large number of Bitcoin (but that might of course shift in the future) developers,  where you could buy support and at the same time sponsor the further development of bitcoin.

In that regard Invictus/Bitshares does indeed have a lot of similarities with Red Hat.
Maybe a similar setup could be conceived with a corporation focused branch of the office where corporate-support can be bought on a yearly basis and a experimental/testing Fedora-style part where new ideas are being worked out, tested and fostered by the community, before making them accessible for "Big business".

Yes, this is exactly what BitShares Foundation does. This analogy needs to be all over the place.

much ouch.

I hereby banish myself from the Bitshares community.

Let nobody ever speak my infernal name again lest you be cursed with hoards of IRS tax collectors swarming upon you like locusts. I really wish I could have gotten to know you all better.

Again, I'm a day late and a dollar short.

You're not a "dollar short". I tipped you 1 PTS after your second posting  8)

yep, last I checked, that's about 6 USD long

The only thing I understood from Numericos post was +5%, so you'll have to ask him to elaborate/translate.

My apologies please disregard, I failed to allocate enough CPU cycles to my response and instead took the opportunity take a pathetic swipe at the "Empire" (bad guys) while indulging myself in Sci-Fi banter. Had I navigated the analogies and metaphors, I might have been more coherent and better served the thread.  :)

My general point (mantra) was, if we (the greater crypto community) can reach consensus, resolve conflicts and agree on common language to frame our vision we can get on with the task at hand. But, If those that understand it best, fail to agree on the most basic methods, concepts and terms, how can we hope to ever explain and rally the general public.

We in the crypto communities need standards at the meta level on par with those of the "W3C". Till then we'll drift and flounder as we jockey for position waiting for a dominate standard to run behind. I say, better we lead than follow.

+5% Yes, if "The Federation", "Klingon" and "Jedi" could resolve difference, set aside egos and stop "Venting Plasma", "Empires" would crumble across the quadrants ("Q" willing). 8)

+5% agreed, the waters in this DAC are best tested on the most predicable risk. built in well established methods to assess risk  are essential to attract mainstream investor and promote adoption.

General Discussion / Re: TANSTAAFL: Risk
« on: March 29, 2014, 10:52:21 am »
I like the following analogy to explain how this experiment could proceed. It's very simple if thought of in these terms and very complex otherwise:

An architect builds an office complex with several buildings in the center of a field. No parking or walkways to each building are designed or provided. Over the course of several months a beaten path develops and patterns are made visible.  The path becomes a dirt trail and eventually is paved.

Risk cannot be managed effectively by market forces. It requires knowledge and wisdom, acquired through experiences, failure and success. The conservative investor will not participate in a DAC where he or she funds this discovery process. Only the benefactor, benefited or gambler would invest.

The burden on the adjuster and investor is too great without substantial predictability. I believe a third actor is required, an "oracle". Ideally the oracle: is developed and then self evolves without intervention. The oracle(s) could initially be semi static repositories, eventually self correcting.

The oracle might then hone its power to assess risk. Pools of varying risk would organically form  over time, investors could then decide when, if and how to jump in. Some pools will be too shallow and fail to attract swimmers while others could prove to be popular and become overcrowded.

While being quite possibly the most lucrative proposed DAC, it's certainly the most complex I've seen envisioned with the most unknown factors, ergo the need for an oracle(s). For a taste of the complexity, google "ruin theory". it's way over my head and thoroughly humbling.

Btw, As I wrote this post, I felt as though I was channeling Peter Sellers/ Chancy from the movie "Being there". First comes spring, then summer, fall, winter then spring again .

If true, it will only be a bump in the road for crypto 1.0 and an eventual bonanza for 2.0 . Necessity is the mother of invention. This will pave the way for, "fiat free zones". Were merchants are crypto only and DACs make centralized fiat exchange mostly obsolete.

Either way we all win.
