BitShares PTS / Re: [HELP NEEDED] accidentally deleted pts wallet!
« on: March 04, 2014, 04:06:38 pm »
I'm very nervous at this moment. I was trying to figure out how many BTS I will have. So I checked my pts wallet on my PC. then I found out that my 0.98 wallet was deleted (shift+delete) by myself after I sent all the rest of pts on it to my wallet on my mac and upgraded the PC version to 1.0 . I forgot THE old Wallet was the one I used to donate for AGS......................
now I lost the wallet, and I thought the 1.0 will automatically save all the content from 0.98, I never knew they are totally separate ones.
So, please help me, I donated around 230 pts from that wallet in two different times-- one 30 and another 200. the address is  PgLqTbH6pGLfLR57NBsqNgfXxfHgAwzPyJ.
I used the same wallet to buy my fonder ID for keyhotee, and my Keyhotee public key is 7Mo9BtejttxJk1zLMLqJL9cM5HrGWkp3u7XzoATDVHE3jw3ckC
I have total control of my heyhotee and hopefully the transaction record (from my pc to my mac) can both serve as a proof of my ags. that means a lot to me.

were you able to recover?

so far I just a few recovery software but didn't work. maybe that's because I don't really know how to use them.
I'll keep trying. or maybe there's a better way to recover it? a more reliable way?

As I recall in good recovery softwares theres a option to allow low level recovery. Takes more time but more effective.

If you want to make sure the wallet is still intact, lower your activity on your PC to decrease the write to your harddrive which makes older data deleted harder or impossible to recover.

Good luck hope you manage to recover it.

yes, you need to set the machine aside until you are ready to recover it else all is lost.

I believe the "goldman sachs" objection to ethereum is very similar "bitshares is a bank" objection.  Both of them take an analogy and mistake it for a direct comparison or affiliation.

You should "trust" ethereum for the reasons you "trust" any project, including Bitshares.  Because you think they solve a problem you think is important.  Because they do it in a way that lends you to believe they will be trustworthy in the future.  Because they paint the vision clearly and in a way everyone can understand.

Ethereum is early, but they do already have a testnet up with a smart contract platform with windows executable installers, so from where I sit that puts them at least parallel to Bitshares production even with a four month later start and not yet having funded.

+5% I support both and expect common ground will be found and built on, each has lessons to learn from the other and each faces the same detractors.

I've followed and bragged on them at my Meetups, but have not seen much activity. Concept coins with purpose and real world value are essential for greater adoption of crytocurrencies. CureCoin, SolarCoin, etc.. IMHO, "Proof of Valuable Work" vs busy work(POW)  is bound to have promise.

Personally I think variants of Proof of Stake are much more promising.  There isn't much valuable computer work that's difficult to do but trivial to verify, with infinite decentralized work availability, which is the essential combination required for POW systems.

True, trusted oracles, metrics, etc...are needed,  verification is the challenge and otherwise costly and ripe with friction.

Unless you meant that it would be semi-centralized and not really a DAC

+5% agreed, no need to be a purest. We need results, fast and cheap. Great idea though.

"ex" Goldman Sachs...really bothers me.  Why even take the risk of adding these people to the mix?

The stakes are very high and though I tend to believe in a good few conspiracies, I am trying to understand why I should not be concerned with "one block chain to rule them all", "ex" Goldman Sachs "advisors", a pyramid structure placed in the logo (though, thank god, no "all-seeing eye"), and the token ironically being called "Ether".  Any one or even two of these would not be so bad...but all of these together make me want to go back and get my tin-foil helmet...and armor.

I will check back here periodically to read the answers...and hope I can be convinced that Bitcoin technology is not being co-opted by "low level" individuals with historical ties to known Terrorist Banking Cartels.

For now, back to work!

What do you mean by "trust"?
You can't trust Satoshi either. For all you know Satoshi himself could be a group of people which included a former Goldman Sachs employee.

General Discussion / Re: [Proposal] Bounty for Easy to launch DAC code
« on: March 04, 2014, 12:21:30 pm »
another interesting prospect of standardizing the code is a funded drive toward merge mining. I say this because the fall in hash behind PTS saw a rise in NRS, hat is not the most desirable situation as i prefer both chains to bw working, not one at the expense of the other.

If it is a possibility, it would solve the problem of hash power being divided between chains. This also puts the possibility of modular codebase in reach.

No need for merged mining with TAPOS.

I think any "serious" DACs in the near-term future will use BTS X codebase because it has the potential to be Fast and Good.

DACs will never be as easy as launching a MSC asset because the very fact that they are intended to be highly specialized for their particular domain and so there is not much benefit in the near future to porting core BTS utilities yet.

Go has awesome interop with C++ so maybe one day dastool can merge with someone's core blockchain code and make easy-to-launch DACs.

There you are incorrect, already it is evident if you look at the PTS dilemma. Due to returns on mining dropping so suddenly, a lot of the hash power has moved away resulting in slower blocks. This in turn affect transactions as they are processed on a per block basis. transactions are now excruciatingly slow  and the mempool shows a huge back log, meaning that unless you pay for priority, your tx will be very late.

TaPoS is a great idea, but still requires hash power behind it. The closer you look at it, TaPoS would not have much off an effect on the primary functions, in fact it is a tertiary function that does not affect any of the areas associated with merged mining.

anyway, we can do philosophy later, this thread is about providing people with useable templates for DAC deloyment.

One of the most desired things by people who have tinkered with the basic codebase derived from bitcoin is a modular approach, basically pre-written files that can be swapped out to effect changes from the most basic mods to making drastic changes in chain structure and operations.

We at the Noir Investment Group are already discussing using the blockchain tech to deploy services rather than tokens, one of the mandates is to keep it modular meaning that  a seperate entity could follow our lead and create another different "plugin" that will change the function to suit their needs. Such a system will encourage other players to simply modify or create new plugins, the resulting plethora of options could very possibly be the corner stone of DACs.

Some people want to earn their way in... they work on a bounty, then take their PTS and send it back to AGS to get more bang for their buck.

It is hard enough getting people to work on bounties, that I am grateful for whatever motives.

true, but "whenever possible" it would be in the best interest of the community and stakeholders.  +5%.

Also, with the shifting value from PTS to BTS, etc.. Those legacy bounties will be an even harder sell.
New incentives will need to attract paid guns, hybrid bounty/equity models are needed else we'll need to go old school (boo hiss).

What ever happened to curecoin? Seems like it was just bs. They were planned to launch last year but still nothing yet.

Yes I'm still curious about them. I believe that they got way ahead of themselves thinking that they could do the work much quicker then it would actually take. It seems like they are still working on it but the project will die out soon if they don't get something going - too bad for all the investors who put in multiple BTC.

Keyhotee / Finding your Keyhotee Public Key
« on: March 04, 2014, 02:04:22 am »
If your like me you may have fumbled around finding your Keyhotee Public Key.

Thus far this is the best way I know (let me know if otherwise):

  • login to Keyhotee
  • select "identity" from menu
  • select "new identity" from drop down
  • begin entering your Keyhotee Id in the form
  • your "Public Key" will appear right below asynchronously

Enjoy
