General Discussion / Re: bitSHARES - As True Shares and Not a Currency!
« on: February 21, 2016, 05:05:59 pm »
Imo, to consider a valid, established BTS price, yes there has to be some way to directly purchase BTS. Either through an exchange, fiat gateway or some other avenue.
With this proposed structure, that option is off the table.  Hence, giving BTS a indirect value instead of an actual value.
Which in turn undermines the collateral argument when it comes to bit assets.
I don't see the DeX as being manipulative towards BTS pricing, but we don't have the volume of users either to justify it as public for making the argument valid.

I've read through this whole post, and unless I've missed or over read something;  I'm still not seeing how Bts value is derived in this situation.  Which is the foundation to the whole system.  Essentially your  putting the BTS genie back in the bottle and claiming it to be non transferable, thus it can only be accumulated via the sale of a bit asset, that's backed by BTS.
So in other words, by locking up bts in this way there is no external metric to value BTS.  Yes you can argue the fact that metric is derived from a bitUSD purchase from an external exchange, but how do I know (as an outsider) that if I buy this bitUSD I'm getting the correct value of BTS as backing collateral?
Here's another way to view this...
Let's say Google wants to create Googledollar, and the Google dollar is backed by it's companies share (let's say 20 shares to create its Google dollar).
Then one day a potential Google dollar buyer comes along...
"Hey, I'd like to purchase your Google dollar"...
Google says... "cool, that'll be $1USD for every Google dollar and each Google dollar is backed by 20 Google shares"
Buyer says... "ok, so your company shares are worth 5 cents each?"
Google... "yes they are"
Buyer... "ok, so where did you get that figure from?"
Google... "from the exchange"
Buyer..."hmm, ok. I've never seen your stock on the NYSE?"
Google.... "yes, you're correct. Our stock is only exchanged on our servers located upstairs and we don't allow or shares to be traded elsewhere."
Buyer... "ok, so how can you claim your company stock is worth 5 cents each if it's not being publicly traded, just because you says so due to activate on your internal servers?"

Do you see where I'm getting at?
Tbh, I've thought about this type of set up in the past (locking up BTS in the DeX) but it always boiled down to "what give BTS value?" to justify it as collateral.

So in some way, shape or form... BTS needs to be able to establish its own price, through out side forces, too be justified as collateral backing... Which this system relies on for any of its bit assets.

So if anyone could help me understand any missing  components that I'm not taking into consideration I'd appreciate it!

I'll try to make it to the openbazaar meetup today in amsterdam .. the whole OB1 team plus some devs will be there
That would be awesome if you could xeroc. You'd be the best man for the job.  You have the knowledge to give a clear and concise massage to how Bitshares can be implemented and the benefit that both parties can reap! I'll by your beer if you go!!

We are working on something that the community might find interesting. We'll reveal more about it "soon". Our focus is on making Ethereum/Graphene interoperability easy and accessible. The holy grail would be to make a trustless or near-trustless two way peg in the future, but at first we're taking baby steps.

We have decided not to make a worker proposal for now as we have found a better way to monetize our product, and we think worker proposals should be reserved for public goods that cannot be monetized in other ways.

I'd like to hear more about this project.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad to hear I didn't duck up to bad lol.
Obviously I'm planning for these to get better over time once I've learned these programs more.

General Discussion / BitShares Mobile Wallet Video Tutorials
« on: February 14, 2016, 08:10:50 pm »
Hello Everyone,

Well, I'm finally getting my feet wet when it comes to video tutorials and explainer videos.
For some time now I've been talking about doing this and I finally have the tools to do these videos.
Since I'm a "newbie" and trying to learn Adobe After Affects (along with some other programs) I decided to jump in with something "easy".

I'll have a total of 3 videos regarding the BitShares Mobile Wallet that covers the @kenCode and @Chris4210  OPENPOS/Odoo project.

Video One - "BitShares Mobile Wallet Install Video"

Video Two - "BitShares Mobile Wallet Walk-Through"

Video Three - "BitShares Mobile Wallet Speed Test" (still in the works**)

Here is the play list link
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLuUmbSgx-Qx8wPDsxnB6Ux45-_dH7qlkD

The "Speed Test" video will get finalized once the beta version of the Mobile Wallet is released (couple weeks??).
In this video I'll show a side by side, real time transfer between the OpenLedger wallet and the Mobile Wallet so we can show anyone just how amazingly fast our Bitshares network is.  NO more talk or gimmicks... lets show them!

I would also like to get everyone's feedback to what I've created thus far.
Positive and/or negative feedback is appreciated!  So please don't shit talk,  just to shit talk.
If you have a legitimate negative review/response... all I'm asking is for you to post (or PM me) your response like an ADULT and briefly explain what you don't like and why.

Here's some other projects I'm looking to add into my queue (in no particular order),

1- How to install, login and properly setup Mumble for participating in the Hangouts *already started*
2- How to edit Mumble hangouts (well, the way I do it for Beyond Bitcoin anyways) *already started*
*I'm hoping someone can step up to help with the hangout edits. Plus people will see what work is involved and why it takes time to properly do edits.
3- How to start using the Sharebits.io  ShareBot to tip inside and outside of the BitShares forum
4- What is BitShares?
*I'm planning to tie in 3D'ish animation and attempt to portray the work flow and workings of the BitShares network
5- How and Why Businesses can benefit from using the Bitshares network
6- How to setup a Bitshares wallet while showing the in's and out's (kinda like the Mobile vids)
7- Why Exchanges and/or Gateways can benefit and integrate onto Bitshares
8- What is a SmartCoin, how they're born and what's their benefits

I know there's a SLEW of topics that can easily get added to this list.  I'd be interested  to hear the community's thoughts and ideas on what topics take priority to be worked on and what they'd like to see added to the list.
But please keep in mind that I'm working solo and still climbing the Adobe learning curve.  So these projects won't be popping out on a daily or even weekly basis.

I've already started #2 and plan to finish that first,  then move on to the #1- Mumble how to.

For the moment I'm not asking anyone to vote in a Worker Proposal for this work. I'd like to get a few more video's done before doing so and then see if my work is worthy enough to justify it.
The flip side is... if people send enough generous BTS tips,  then I'll keep forging forward without asking for any worker proposals.  I'd personally prefer this route but we'll see what happens in the near future  :P
Who DOESN'T like BTS tips????

Other than that, I hope you enjoy what I've done already with the Mobile Wallet vids and look forward to hear some feedback  :D

@fav - please let me know if you plan on moving this OP to another area. Thank you!

General Discussion / Re: can't hold plain BTS in wallet? (I f*cked up)
« on: February 14, 2016, 03:14:59 pm »
Thank you all for your lightning response helping me resolve my self constructed problem. Yes the help desk at poloniex has already found and refunded my BTS. I am about to transfer most of them to my account: freedom-chat - I will also tip you all once I set up that ability. what was the website for that again?
http://www.sharebits.io/
First you'll need to send BTS to your bot. Once that's done, you'll be able to tip people on the forums using this syntax...

#sharebits "forumusernamhere" 100 BTS

#sharebits = calling tip bot to action

"Forum User" = who you want to send tip to, name must be in parenthises

100 BTS = Amount and type of token you want to send. You must have tokens in your bot account in order to share them with others, along with actual BTS to pay network tx fee.

Hope this helps and please enjoy the Bitshares experience ;)

You guys rock!
Thanks, but I am still with Akado here - aka while I do see why you do it, I do agree you should monetize it, and I do think it is a pritty bad timing to do it. It is just my personal opinion, I might as well be totally wrong.

BTW the great tool... the spamming bot... sorry the  tip bot, seems to be off-line yet again.... And it is following just a forum with like what 4 posts per hour average... I have my deep doubts...well I am almost positive it cannot 'scan' twitter, youtube or whichever real leading platform.
At least I got a thanks!  I'll chalk this one up as a positive [emoji12]

Wow, that's pretty damn cool.
So basically, it's another form of a web browser... A very cool one at that!
I can see how you'd find this intriguing too use this for viewing block chain info.  Would this be done via api? Or actually needing to read and view a block chain file?
Really cool find Thom.

To anyone who doesn't have either silver or  copper tickets, I have one extra silver ticket for anyone wanting to purchase or trade for... Shoot me a PM with offer.  Best offer will be accepted

You should have more than that aj.  check your mailbox.  i dont think you claimed them yet.
That's what was showing in my Sharebot account.  If you had sent more I'm not sure where they could've gone?  Does the bot purge unclaimed fees after a period of time?

This is a perfect use case to use the Sharebot. Why not send them some Trybitshares tokens via Twitter. I'm sure @fuzzy would be more than happy to send you all some to send out.
