General Discussion / Re: Steemit's Plan
« on: July 08, 2016, 06:14:47 am »
Dan did offer every member of this forum a stake in STEEM: an early chance to mine it or begin posting and voting during its alpha and beta phases. I pooh-poohed it originally, but once I took the time to figure out what they had built, I was all in. Since then, I've made thousands of dollars posting and voting on good content. I've re-invested all of those profits into Steem Power, which virtually gives me a big stake in its continued future growth. It's still early over there, and there's plenty of time for you to get your "sharedrop" also. But you don't get it sitting on your ass; you have to work for it. As I understand it, Steemit is just part of the overall vision and BitShares can fulfill an important role in that plan, too.

Maybe we should offer to send a peacekeeping force over to NuLand in the event of a price implosion and resulting civil unrest.

General Discussion / Re: Merger of STEEM and BTS

This discussion on Steemit would have been worth $1500 by now.

Wasn't the site updated and now if just one downvote is cast (before 2 upvotes I believe) the set of voting icons disappears from the main page, the post is marked as read and the summary is removed from displaying or am I wrong?  I could be wrong, but that is just what appears to happen now. The only way you can upvote those post is to come across one and click to view it. But it appears users are being discouraged from viewing them by a single downvote. That's not exactly a "community's downvotes". I get why it's being done, but I don't agree with the current implementation. Someone can sick the bot on them (like "someone" has the gardenlady, but in a good way) and as soon as they post they are downvoted into most never looking at the post because they will assume it's spam or not worthwhile.

You should mention that on STEEM. I'll upvote your discussion of it. I hadn't realized that was what was happening, but we cannot let one downvote have that much of a detrimental effect.

General Discussion / Re: Move Bitsharestalk to Steemit?

Keep it here unless/until the two merge their features somehow.

EDIT: I have gained enough experience now with STEEM to know that it works very well. While I opposed moving the forum there before, I now would support such a move, if that is what the community decides. It would provide more synergy and reward the people who are still active on this forum.

My opinion on this issue has changed. I have edited my earlier post (see above).

If this discussion were on STEEM, I'd give a few of you some upvotes and you could be making real money.
Only if you're one of the whales and no other whale down-vote it.

I haven't seen many downvotes on STEEM. They don't really factor in unless there's misleading or misplaced content. As for whales, that's true, but there are enough users on there with decent-sized stakes now that a few upvotes means money. Heck, even my modest stake moves the needle a bit now. But then again, it means you need to make useful posts that add something to the conversation. So for some folks on here who don't have anything of value to say, you probably wouldn't make much on STEEM either.

it worked for me . If you just entered it in edit box , it won't , but if you slide down the edit box selection just choose the address above.

Thank you. I hadn't even realized there was a drop-down menu there. It's stealthy. But your suggestion worked.

It definitely isn't working today.

As long as there is a government providing services, then some taxation or other form of revenue collection is needed to fund those services. If society decides it does not need a government, then there would not be taxation. Either way, there's no theft.

I have been trying to get excited about STEEM and am playing around with its features so far. But I think one of the main reasons BM is working on it is so that he can fund his endeavors by pumping and dumping it. One of his messages seemed to suggest this pretty clearly. If they truly want to make money from a market cap that naturally reaches great heights, it's going to require a different kind of development. STEEM's success is going to depend even more heavily on the type of outreach and viral growth of the user base that has been so elusive for BitShares. I really hope they have some different people involved in that project who can help sell it, since that's been one of our major shortcomings here.

what do you guys think, bts buy out steem?

If anything, I think it would be STEEM buying out BitShares, or else they will come up with another new ring to rule them all. But I would not wager a dollar on either of these outcomes. Plans change frequently around here and he made it clear we are in for a long timetable; plenty of time for plans to change a few more times.

General Discussion / Re: Working on BitShares..
« on: April 27, 2016, 04:28:37 pm »
irrespective of what BM does, this project is still way undervalued i think..

Bingo. BitShares needs new leadership, but it still has great potential. If these entrepreneurs we keep hearing about can create growth on the blockchain, then maybe that's where the future is. If Bank of America suddenly plugs into BitShares for its back end, then it would break loose for the moon. But why would any large company do this when they could control their own version of it? Smaller entrepreneurs, not large companies, probably will fuel the growth. That makes it organic and it means this will take time. We need to make sure we have a development team that still can maintain this system and make minor tweaks as needed -- witnesses and community members will need to be patient and continue voting for funds for proper maintenance, etc. Aside from that, just stay in it for the long haul. This will be a slow, grinding slog. Hopefully, we will grow steadily, and years from now we will have a large market cap.

But the actual behind the scenes plan seems to be for the devs to abandon bitshares in favor of Steem.

Then later Steem can die and they can abandon it in favor of something new, after taking more money from people.

For those wanting a 'kumbaya' decentralized community, I think STEEM will be a better option. I'll buy a little, but if the project is on A.D.D. like BitShares has been, then it's going to have one useful piece after another that continually gets recycled to make way for the next big thing. Always chasing the horizon; never really knowing how to promote what you have.

BitShares has a lot going for it still, notably the entrepreneurs who are using its currency or blockchain. But I think it needs leadership to take it in a new direction. And I strongly question whether a disparate, decentralized community is capable of creating the consensus and acting decisively to truly fund the kind of mass adoption it deserves.
