General Discussion / BitStamp Having Issues

I don't use it, but here's fair warning in case you do. I'm never sure these kinds of comments are real, so take it with a grain of salt:

"Digital currencies" are now legal for transactions in California. The CoinTelegraph articles uses "Bitcoin" in the title, but the actual term in the legislation is "digital currencies", so we can say also that BTS and BitUSD (amongst many other "digital currencies") are now the equivalent of legal tender in CA:

Wall Street betting on defaults. Economic sanctions and falling energy prices are hurting two of America's (not so favorite) friends:

Are you located in a country with high inflation or economic difficulties? If you'd like to help market BitShares in your home country, please respond to this thread or PM me. I'm working on the community marketing team and we'd like to see how we can help you (maybe with some volunteer support or a little money).

Here is a list of countries by inflation rate. Just click on the percentage column to sort them. At the moment, I'm most interested in the high inflation countries (above 4% or so) and also interested in the deflationary ones (negative growth). Thank you!

General Discussion / Design Your Own Bank
« on: November 21, 2014, 09:19:41 pm »
Cue the attractive voiceover...

"We're designing the perfect online alternative to your bank. Please take a moment and help us decide which features to include. If you could create the perfect online bank, what would it look like? Tell us what you want and we'll thank you with a 10% deposit bonus when our banking alternative is ready."

Angry man's voice: "I'd eliminate 90% of the fees. Why does my bank need to make money off me?"
Woman's voice, with an accent: "Let me send and receive money for free. With anyone, anytime, anywhere in the world."
Another man's voice: "Can you keep my identity secure? No social security numbers or card numbers."
Another woman's voice: "Can you speed up the transactions? Post my payment the same day? Same hour? (laughs nervously)"

Voiceover returns: "We're listening to YOU!  Please take a moment to list which features YOU'D like to see us include as we build the perfect alternative to your bank. Then stay tuned to see how you can get a 10% bonus on your deposit."

Checklist appears. People check 'instant transactions'; 'privacy'; 'eliminate most fees'; 'send money to anyone, anywhere in the world,' etc. (list would be longer). Put a couple of funny ones on there like "attractive tellers" and have a sound effect when they click that, with a message saying "Oops, we can't put those online!" Once checklist is done, user clicks to submit.

Up pops a comparison of features between what they clicked and what BTS offers. Guess what? It's the same!

Voiceover returns. "Is that all you want? Then I have good news. Those features have already been added to our software. You can get your 10% bonus immediately by opening a BitShares wallet. BitShares is not a bank; it's better. And it lets you do everything you've ever wanted, that your bank cannot. Welcome to the future of money!"

3-D food printing has arrived. Just imagine the possibilities when your computer really can cook a meal! BTS collateral required for each pizza printed?

General Discussion / 2015 World Series Ticket?
« on: November 03, 2014, 10:04:24 pm »
A year from now, one of us needs to go to the World Series and the rest of us need to crowd-fund that person. Or pick another sport, though I think baseball fans have plenty of time on their hands to surf the web. This guy just got a ton of free air time for his orange Marlins shirt (see article below).

Well, it's not exactly free. I don't know what these seats cost. I did score a couple of face-value tickets and went to one of the postseason Giants games in San Francisco, but that was nowhere near home plate. This guy's seat is directly in the frame again and again and again during a 3-hour period. And read the article--exposure was international. Just a thought...

For one thing, it probably helps not to have your public faces be linked to crimes and scandals. I won't vote for BitShares Delegates who bring a known quantity of baggage and karma with them. Never say never, because I'm a fan of second chances, but my initial stance will not be to favor delegate candidates who bring their dark clouds to BitShares.

General Discussion / [POLL] When BitShares Makes Its Move...
« on: October 25, 2014, 05:47:08 am »
Bitcoin seems to be in a long term downtrend. Is this good for BitShares? More money coming into crypto would lift many boats. However, the erosion of Bitcoin's market cap makes it easier to catch and possibly more vulnerable to a strong alternative currency. Which situation would you rather see? Which one benefits BitShares the most?

Pretty much what I've come to conclude, though I credit Bitcoin with more respect for what it's started:
