General Discussion / Re: a question about shorting
« on: January 26, 2015, 01:47:52 pm »
Ok but say you shorted with your whole stash of bts, Why can't the market take the bitUSD it needs off the top at the market rate before it gives you your locked up shares back.

General Discussion / a question about shorting
« on: January 26, 2015, 01:32:25 pm »
So I have been playing with shorting and I recently tried to cover 2 small orders. I did not have enough bitUSD to cover the orders. I did have more then enough in collateral for the orders. When you click the cover button I assumed that it would market sell the needed bts held in collateral to cover the order.I found that this was not the case instead all I got was a insufficient funds message.

Is this a bug or is it supposed to be this way? If it is supposed to be this why can someone please explain why.

General Discussion / Re: My Plan for Bitshares In Real Estate
« on: January 25, 2015, 05:12:56 pm »
As someone who is all ready involved in rental's and home flipping I am not sure how you can work this.

Will every share holder be a "active" owner or are you operating the fund and everyone else is a passive owner?
What will the legal doc's look like? I understand that the LLC will be listed on the property title but how do you tie the investors of the LLC to the LLC. Typically they would come and sign some documents and verify who they are while getting this notarized.
If every shareholder is a active owner then they also get the tax liabilities associated with the property not to mention the benefits. Who do you determine who gets what where?

I am slightly out of my element here because the business I have done is the past has just been with my money which makes it much easier. I had given everything you stated some thought months ago but I do not know a way you can structure to define clear ownership, roles  and tax implications good/bad. I have access to a good real estate lawyer that I have worked with for years and a tax guy that could be straight out of Dragnet.

With the above being said their is money to be made here but how you will structure it and show investor ownership VIA a UIA on a title through a LLC without some paperwork from the owners of the UIA will make any lawyer cringe at the thought.

+5% +5% Great blog.

I'm not sure of the merits of pricing in 1oz coins.

People expect to pay a premium the smaller the size of physical you want. So I would stick to the global market price per ounce & just charge a % on that.

The Shanghai Gold Exchange has a high delivery rate & go as low as 1kg bars I think.
Exchanges like them will take over the pricing mechanism in the event Comex and others default.

(Edit: Just saw above, yeah 1:1 +5% would be good, if it was possible, but whatever it is, is probably fine. I think people are more comfortable with the widely quoted price of silver per ounce. A new system with a new price system would be a hard sell I think.)

Unfortunately that widely quoted price is highly manipulated.  For every ounce of silver there are nearly 100 ounces of paper silver driving the supply/demand equilibrium way down.  We need to decouple from that in order to be of any interest to silver bugs.

The heart of the issue is a gateway. Fiat, gold, silver you could make a case for any gateway but we need one.

I like using e-gold as a example so how did they get started? Well simple really they used their own funds to purchase a large amount of gold(it doesn't say how much) and held that as a reserve. From their you had a physical gold storage to back your e-gold which could be redeemed at any time. Even with this in place it took them 2 years to gain exponential growth.

The other interesting thing they did was when you used the spend feature of egold. This spend function meant instead of shoppers seeing AUG 1gram for a product they would instead see the current USD amount. The receiver would of course still receive egold but from a shopping experience the buyer and seller could use terms they were all ready familiar with and know they were getting that dollar amount.

With the above in mind what would stop someone from buying 50-100k worth of a 1-10 gram bars and exchanging them directly for  bitGLD for a spread? If its such a good idea why don't a few stake holders throw their bts in the mix to the tune or 50K with the knowledge that it will make the rest of their shares more valuable. Amagi metals would be the place of choice. So you just convert bts to btc to gld and now you have your reserve. Pay a operator, storage cost and a third party to audit and its gateway made.

Something tells me I am missing something or it isn't quite this simple and their must be a reason no one will bite on this.

They said they're working on it and would rather keep coding rather than address complaints. They will push their API wrapper when it is ready.
Every 100% delegate should communicate with the community regularly.rather keep coding than address "complaints" was not an excuse.

DAC PLAY / Play featured on Coindesk

Just in case this article snuck by anyone  http://www.coindesk.com/one-startup-will-use-blockchain-disrupt-online-gaming/
I think it was a bit poorly titled, it should have mentioned play but it does outline it use and over all value.

Your delegate is long over due.

Very good idea. This should cut down the ramp up funding of ideas and allow them to get off the ground faster.

When I click the submit proposal button nothing happens? The contact link also returns a error.

Next target Litecoin.. which I'm surprised hasn't slumped more, given it's dropped to ~0.0062 BTC

All good things in due time. Jumping Paycoin was a given. Jumping Litecoin will be a milestone.

Btc-e is a good exchange.
Bts is not usable for average people yet.  It probably will not succeed to be listed on btc-e.

Its not necessary to get BTS listed; getting BitFiat accepted as deposit option would be huge.

This guy get's it, We should want to see Bitassets added to these exchanges. If they want Bts let them come to the internal exchange, which is where we want them in the long run anyways

Going back and forth with their devs by email, they are actively on it. Their last estimate was "a few days".
Consider to let them run one 100% delegates

It's a done deal, with the current time frame being 2-3 weeks. No point in throwing them a delegate.

I too have thought about this but I am not sure how it would be possible.
