General Discussion / Re: New smart asset MCDONALDS. Need witnesses...

You can feed the price yourself. IMO witnesses should feed only committee-owned smartcoins.

That does not sound good. :-(

Technical Support / Re: TESTNET Issues to be discussed.
« on: November 01, 2017, 04:50:17 pm »
Testnet is not only for Bitshares Devs, but for partnering companies, business on top of it, gateway developers, 3rd party platforms that would like to integrate with, etc. It has the same importance as the real node (mainnet)

Would love to see some comments and ETA's on this :)

That's your opinion, and I agree that's how it *should* be. Reality is, however, that testnet is a volunteer effort, like so many other things in our community. testnet.bitshares.eu belongs to xeroc, who is rather overworked anyway.

If you want to get this done, find someone who will do it, and create a worker proposal or have it funded otherwise.

What you're really highlighting here is a fundamental problem of our DAC. We need management. For the UI we have Bill and his team, but we need something similar for the backend stuff. Decentralization is a very nice concept in theory, but it's not helpful if you want to get something done.

2) You are telling someone non technical to DEPLOY A FULL NODE ON HIS OWN AND DO TRANSACTION HISTORY ? You are having a piss or a blast with reason in your head ?

Do you always abuse people who merely set a wrong (and dangerously so) answer from you straight?

291
This looks more like ACCT than a trustless gateway. ACCT can be done much simpler without witnesses.

There is no simple way to access/see entire history. [...] Please use API Docs from official Bitshares or reach someone who can be trusted on your side to do it for you (it will request your encrypted keys in order for your history to be generated/accessed ).

No! Do not hand over your keys to anyone!

You can easily access the entire history of your own account(s) by running a full node of your own. Your private keys are not required.

We now have an official release: https://github.com/bitshares/bitshares-core/releases/tag/2.0.171025
I think @xeroc will make an announcement.

General Discussion / Re: How "OPEN" should we be?
« on: October 28, 2017, 12:07:51 pm »
Anyone who is interested in privacy should not make transactions on a blockchain. It's as simple as that.

Google has already indexed a lot of information, just search for inurl:cryptofresh.com to see an excerpt.

It does not make sense to protect the data in ES, because the data that ends up there is already publicly available. The only point of the ES plugin is to make it easier for node operators to do their job, and to avoid the point where we can no longer operate services like openledger simply because we can't afford servers with terabytes of RAM.

BitShares is open source, so anyone can download and run the node, and elasticsearch, and put the two together. We cannot prevent that, we cannot charge fees for that, and if someone does that and uses it to query your account history nobody will know. Just like you cannot see who queried your account history on cryptofresh.

How do i get the licence to use bitshares logo?

On the level of IP rights, you can use the BTS logo from the bitshares-ui repo on github, under the terms and conditions of the MIT license.

296
China is important, however, please remember that we just elected an *exclusive* representative for BitShares.

I think it would be best for our community if the BTS foundation and the guys behind this new proposal get together in some form.

As a freelance software developer I'm in contact with various businesses in the cryptosphere, and I am and will be working for other (graphene-based) blockchains.

I have also signed two NDAs, but I'm not going to disclose with whom or on what terms (they're called non-disclosure for a reason, you know).

As someone who is holding a significant number of shares I will of course not act against the interests of bitshares.

Technical Support / Re: Disk space on a witness node
« on: October 26, 2017, 03:38:41 pm »
2 years after the start of BTS-2.0, the full blockchain consumes about 7GB of diskspace. It will be a looooong time before the blockchain outgrows even the largest disks, and long before that you will start worrying about your network bandwidth.

When it does, finally, it's always an option to take a snapshot of the current state and start a new blockchain, using the snapshot as the new genesis.

The Stealth BSIP must include a detailed technical description. Check BSIP's 17 and 18 to see what I mean. :-)

We've tagged a pre-release. Upgrade at your own risk, preferrably non-critical systems first.
