Technical Support / Re: import accounts?
« on: January 08, 2015, 10:30:45 am »
You have to work with public and private keys to do that but I think it's possible.  I've never done it myself though.
The second half of this WIKI explains it:

http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/Best_Practices/Cold_Storage

Look up the help entry in the console for wallet_import_private_key and you will see how to deal with the account names.

A new delegate candidate seems to have expertise in this area.  Maybe you should collaborate.

General Discussion / Re: When will the full wallet work better?

just add a couple nodes and wait.  Then add a couple more, wait.  Eventually it should sync.

I am stuck at block 1211638. It won't sync any further than that even though I am on version 0.27.1... Anyone know what to do?

This is from the Troubleshooting part of the WIKI and has worked for me in the past:

If you are getting a "Not Connected" error or having trouble syncing, try the following troubleshooting procedures:
Change how many nodes your client tries to connect to and the maximum it will try to connect to by typing the following command in the console:
network_set_advanced_node_parameters {"desired_number_of_connections":50, "maximum_number_of_connections":100}
If that doesn't work, then try connecting to some nodes manually using the following commands:
network_add_node "107.170.211.129:1700" add
network_add_node "80.240.133.79:1776" add
network_add_node "188.226.195.137:60696" add
network_add_node "76.74.170.79:54200" add
network_add_node "176.9.234.166:1700" add
network_add_node "180.153.142.120:1777" add
network_add_node "162.243.220.142:1777" add
network_add_node "84.238.140.192:42577" add
network_add_node "5.101.106.138:1778" add
network_add_node "69.164.192.144:1700" add
network_add_node "192.168.0.14:1776" add
network_add_node "78.46.32.25:1776" add
network_add_node "192.168.0.12:44327" add
network_add_node "70.114.143.108:1776" add
network_add_node "106.187.91.24:38581" add
network_add_node "106.185.26.162:1981" add
network_add_node "188.138.107.159:1776" add
network_add_node "104.131.136.190:1776" add
network_add_node "95.85.33.16:8764" add

Technical Support / Re: I want to buy BTS without using BTER
« on: January 05, 2015, 01:24:40 pm »
I would honestly just use bter.

At the moment I think the Gateways are still bleeding edge tech.  People are experimenting with them now, but probably not transferring large sums yet.

bter is quite good and there is much volume.  You can really get through the whole process done in under 15 minutes.

Make sure you have an account registered on the blockchain first.

When exporting bts from bter you need to use your bitshares account NAME and not the public key.

Cheers

I agree with the opinion expressed in the OP.

I came across this, just to give a general idea of the massive amount of work going on in Ethereum right now.

https://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/1634/tutorial-1-your-first-contract

From the comments, it looks like it still might be buggy.  But I think the post show the seriousness of the project development and the potential to attract large numbers of developers into this programming sandbox when it goes live.

Edit: spelling

BTS just past 1M in 24-hour volume on coinmarketcap.com!

The guy who has been dumping BitShares on BTC38 in blocks of a million for the last three weeks ran out a day or two ago.

Maybe, but the volume's also way up.  It might cross 1M for 24 hour volume soon.  It's already over 900k.  That hasn't happened in a while.

Regardless of the error noted on coinmarketcap.com regarding volume the last couple days, volume was much lower.

I think it's undervalued in any case, but what changed now?

Sparkle Alpha 4 QT win32 binary

The images are kinda borked, but it works and you can mine. I'll work on it more later if there's any interest.

It doesn't work for me as well... :(

Try Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013

Tried with Packages but doesn't work for me either.

Do you just install the client and then that's it, you're mining?
no mining with BitShares .. it's a (Delegated) Proof of Stake system ..

I think you're mistaken.  From the announcement:

Currency Unit:  SPK (Spark)
Mining Algorithm: SHA512  (initial, may change subject to delegate vote.)
Initial Supply: 100M SPK  (Divided among AGS, PTS, and BTS holders)
Mining Reward:  50 SPK / block, linearlly decreasing to 0 over 100 years.
Workers Reward:  50 SPK / block, linearlly decreasing to 0 over 100 years.
Block Interval: 20 seconds
Maximum Spark Supply: 7,984,000,000 SPK after 100 years.
Precision:  5 decimal places
