Weren't you doing "theDEX"? Why don't you just make yours better? Learn from their mistakes?

Your decision about "opportunity cost" was made when you decided to form a new business instead of working on "well paying careers with clear paths for advancement".  Those are called "sunk costs" and you don't need to tell us about them.

If you are already calling into question the decisions you have made, you will find succeeding difficult.

Not if we also have to trust that some super secret passphrase on which the entire security of the system depends on has been actually disposed of.

Can you elaborate more?  ELI5?

Is this the end? Too bad. I still have shares stuck in a wallet with too many keys to upload.

I have seen this happen to other coins, which signaled the end. The forum always turns into a ghost town and the market cap drops and drops.

I really dont think it has anything to do with Dan and Stan leaving for their new scam but rather that they didnt leave sooner. Like before the merger or before bts 2.0.

After the fuck ups of this project, I dont even follow any coin besides BTC. They all promise the world but have zero fuctionality beyond what bitcoin already does. Its a shame because I really think had BTSX been worked on and the market been delivered as sold, it wouldve been a game changer. But, nope. Dan, Stan and friends had to suck as much money out as they possibly could killing the market cap. Then users started leaving. And less users meant less money to suck out. And off the suckers went looking for a new class of idiots.

Ill predict that steem will continue to fall and within 6 months the Cryptonomex crew will concoct a new plan for a new coin.

Don't worry. Soon Stan and his various sockpuppet accounts - BitcoinSatan, ErlichBachman, GiantMiddleFinger,...or whatever they are all called, will be here to rebuff you.

I nearly forgot BitcoinJesus, the most important of all of them.  Let's wait for Stan to reply through the voice of God.

Over $2M 24-hour volume on CMC.  I think that's an all-time record.

General Discussion / BitShares' social contract was such a strong idea
« on: August 27, 2016, 08:51:16 am »
And I think we are seeing confirmation of how strong it is in the positive reception of Peerplays.

Now I am excited about this project: YOYOW

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,23064.0.html

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,23035.0.html

It is amazing to me that the authors of the social contract decided to abandon it in their first subsequent project.  It will be interesting to see Steem and YOYOW face off.

I encourage everyone in the community to keep the social contract strong!  The viral marketing and motivational effects are as alive as ever.

The price may be increasing due to the upcoming Peerplays snapshot.  This will take place over a period of weeks at the beginning of September.

An interesting decision was made for the sharedrop which we may be seeing play out in the market price.  Namely, that known exchanges will not be included in the share drop.  This means that if you own BTS and would like your portion of the Peerplays share drop, you have to move those coins off the exchanges before the sharedrop begins.

Thus the price increase may be due to the diminishing supply of BTS on the exchanges as people move their BTS in anticipation of the shapshot.

It has been speculated several times on this forum that keeping BTS off the exchanges might boost the price.  There was even a proposal by @tonyk which would take BTS off the exchanges completely.  But i don't remember the details.

It is a very interesting experiment we are seeing play out.  And if in fact this is causing the price increase, a very lucrative business model to drive the BTS price would be to propose dividend payments or sharedrops to BTS holders which take place at random (unforeseeable) times in the future, and exclude the exchanges.

What could happen however is Bitshares deciding to adopt some of the features developed for Steem once they've proven that they work

It should be made clear that many of the features developed for Steem were effectively stolen from the BitShares community who were actively contributing ideas to improve BITSHARES.

Steem has many innovations that have been discussed here on bitsharestalk and in the mumble sessions including:

1. Only vesting stake can vote for witnesses (19 by approval voting)
2. One witness slot time shared with remaining witnesses (not in the top 19)
3. One witness slot is selected via Proof of Work
4. No transaction fees
5. Vesting stake is protected from any inflation / dilution caused by witnesses / miners.

And this without remuneration.

I have a name registered on the blockchain from 0.8.
Can I continue sending funds to that account name if don't make an account yet in 2.0?
For example, can I make a transaction from an exchange to that account name now?
If I have the private keys (unencrypted WIF) for that account will I be able to access the funds later?

is wallet_import_private_key still supported in 2.0?

Wrapping my head around a post training-wheels BitShares and tweaking my two bots (inner market maker and outer Metaexchange).

@Riverhead, would you mind sharing what sources of information you are finding most helpful to understand the 'post training-wheels BitShares'?

Our user demographic would never spend money to try a new tech :/

It is really rather simple to finance things to get the funds.    Unfortunately, without required centralized ID verification there is no way to "give" samples away to new users.

Why would a person want to undergo an ID verification to try a demo of bitshares ?
Or do you mean  the company raising funds in large sums for this purpose ?

I mean it is a technical limitation of decentralized systems that without "proof of uniqueness" or "proof of work" the "free samples" given away will be sybil attacked and fail.   Bitcoin's referral program was proof of work... but now it has been abused.

What kind of ID verification is required?

Let's rephrase the question then,

what kind of "proof of uniqueness" is required?
