I hope the price continues going up so fast that bears in this thread cannot get back in. :)

Anger much? Price goes up, price goes down. What's new?

Buying on borrowed money is a lot like shorting.  You're locking in your price now and paying for it later, or over time, with the expectation that it will rise in price. If you just use the funds you have you may not be able to buy all you want before the price starts to go up. Needing the price to go up or not down to pay back the debt is of course bad, just like with shorting. The issue most of us face is that we have good cash flow but low capitalization. The only way around that is to pay someone a fee who does betting the fee is less than the growth.

From a portfolio perspective I like to keep a small percentage in crypto as my high risk/reward allocation. Crypto->Small Cap->Mid Cap->Blue Chip, etc. Sometimes I borrow from one bucket to balance out another.

While on the subject those that have risked their BTS shorting bit assets into existence are adding a lot of value to the ecosystem in terms of testing and liquidity. Of the three camps I mentioned earlier those that are shorting definitely belong in the first group; literally putting their money where their mouth is.

I would never borrow money to buy crypto. Even if this is a 'sure thing', the timing is never certain. Since I'm fortunate not to need a loan for this, I will continue to buy BitShares.

I don't really believe in "sure things". Of course the value proposition of Bitshares has improved in the last months, even though the price has dropped a lot. So there's plenty of room for the market value to recover and even surpass what it was before the merger. It might not recover before a long while (if ever), the timing might not be right, there might be a third world war and China might drop a nuclear bomb on the US (very unlikely, knowing China has more than a trillion dollars in US debt). At least if the worst happen we'll have @DataSecurityNode who'll be able to host a couple of delegates in his bunker :P

If I rely on my gut feeling, let's say that buying Bitshares is currently a fairly good idea, either with borrowed money or not (as long as one can get it at low interest and pay it back without selling ;)).

It makes me think of a guy I read about in an article last year who borrowed 20k$ to buy Bitcoin when it was at about 20$/BTC. That was a ballzy move. He got lucky and the prices spiked after a while. The sad part of the story is that he got hacked last year and lost about 750 of those BTC.

People who borrow crypto to buy fiat are even worse.  ;D

I'm even thinking of borrowing money to increase my position (nothing I can't afford to lose of course).

Bitshares needs strong hands, I intend to play my part!

It might be the right time, but I would like to point out that borrowing money in order to buy is the weakest hand of all.  Because if it goes down you must sell to pay back the borrowed money.

Strong hands means people who bought, not on margin, not with borrowed money, and who do not intend to sell if the price declines, under any circumstances.  Strong hands is people who are buying who also have plenty more cash available to continue to buy more if the prices stays down or goes even lower.

I don't plan on selling any BTS to pay back a loan (that is if I take one), if it happens I will pay it back with my tax return that is on the way. And I'll be coming into more available money on a continuous basis, so if it keeps falling in the long run, I'll be there to buy cheap BTS.

I never sold any BTS I bought and I've been around almost since the beginning (AGS donator, PTS holder). I had plenty of occasions to cut off my loss, but never did. I've always been a value investor on the stock market, and IMO Bitshares is seriously undervalued. But that's my opinion, so I might be wrong.

Anyway, although I'm a small time investor, I believe I'm part of a minority who only bought and never sold, and I don't plan to sell at all. Except maybe if BTS reaches 1-2$, I might cash in on part of my investment, only to avoid overexposure to cryptos compared to my other investments. I live frugally on an engineer salary and invest everything I can spare, and I try to diversify as well (rental real estate, stock market and cryptos). Hopefully I'll be able to hit a homerun with at least some of those investments! Only time will tell.

But you are right. Usually those who borrow to invest are the weekest hands, as they believe they will be able to cash in their profits and pay back their loans. But I've been investing long enough to know one shouldn't count on potential profits to pay back debts.

I'm also still buying, and have no intention of selling in the next few years.

Normally I don't speculate shortterm because I'm terrible at this but this time I do believe we hit the bottom. BitShares is worth slightly less than Nxt at the moment, that should seem like a realistic valuation to outsiders. If selling continues I would expect to see new buyers incoming.

I hope I'm not terribly mistaken for once  :D

when an average guy on the street thinks it's bottom ...then it's normally not a bottom , from past experience .

 :'( :'( :'( :'(

The bottom will happen when everybody don't believe there will be a bottom ...

I think many ppl gave up by now and its perfect time...

Well, I rolled my change at home yesterday and surprisingly it all added up to a few hundred bucks. Might as well reduce my average aquisition cost and go all-in on Bitshares lol :P

did anyone thought about, that the voting shares are not changing?

so, no supporting whale is selling.

Exactly, you self enforcing idiot - only we, that we are paid do matter! The rest are nonsensical nuisances!

My guess: the hard core believers in BTS are the ones that short BitUSD and provide liquidity. Now they are being affected, and leaving BTS altogether, cutting their losses.

Now they are leaving?

That is a weird statement ... they have been leaving for months but hey... only those that work and being paid are considered to be contributing to Bitshares... the ones that have been warning for 6+ mo. and/or risking their money in a broken system are just complainers...

F*en idiots - bitAssets 3.0 is months and months away... and the affiliate program gig - a total joke that will never work as a payment system for everything.
In the mean time (6-9 mo. or so) let's continue killing the ones that are actually risking something to produce the actual product...they are not important...they are not paid by the blockchain....

[edit]
And btw the 30 days rule is not the issue....it is just the trigger that makes the overexposed bulls  face reality...the real issues are 200% collateral from shorts( plus a soft collateral  mind you) and a bug persistent for 2 months with no urgency to fix it....which is making expiring shorts (not the called ones) pay 10% penalty. But why hurry to fix it.?!...may 5 is fine as well  and for less than 200% collateral?...let them fools wait for bitA 3.0....

and those are/were not allowed to vote mind you....ignorant I know it all ...member.

I understand your frustration.  Wish I could fix it. Unfortunately I can't do anything...why not bring it up in hangouts?

lzr1900 all we need is to be ready for when hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of people wake up from their economic nightmare and begin searching for an alternative. Did you think Bitshares was going to be able to manifest a new global financial ecosystem with a few strokes of a magic keyboard and a new technology? Of course not.

All the hard work, the innovation, the testing and  the evolving composition of our community is about getting Bitshares ready for when it truly matters. As long as people are willing to continue to build Bitshares, who gives a rats arse about the price today? If you are purely motivated by profit, then it's the price in 5 to 10 years you want to be concerned with.

I'm aware of only 1 truly decentralised market available to the world today and that is Bitshares. What is the one thing that people need and will crave to protect their financial freedom and stop the whole of humanity from being consumed by the greed and avarice of their slave masters? A truly decentralised market.  Keep working hard, stay positive, stay the course and try to have patience. None of this is going to be easy.

Wow ben, you and I need to talk more. ..
With pleasure fuzzy. I'd have got back to you sooner but had a difficult day as my grandfather passed away rather suddenly after Sunday lunch. I take solace in his full life and the fact that I had only just been speaking to him about the amazing people all over the world who were working towards the magnificent goal of setting everyone free. And that for the first time, a wonderful technology gave that goal a realistic chance of success. I said it was a wonderful thing to be a part of and that his great grandchildren would live in a better world. He seemed genuinely moved and happy. I tell you this because of your integrity fuzzy and in the forum because so many of our fellow community members have inspired me and given me hope. That hope has in turn reached someone who knew nothing of crypto but worried for those he was leaving behind.

My heart and condolences go out to you and your family.
Wish you lots of power…I'm here for you if you need somebody to talk!
Peace be with you.

Look at this statistics..about 250k CNY outflow from BTS this week..

I'm wondering if that could have anything to do with the dacx completed funding rounds. Not sure when they ended but one would expect that they would have to withdraw the bitCNY at some point to buy the actual stock. A quick estimate looks like > 300k in fully funded campaign/offers. So this may not necessarily be a bad thing...
come on.
I can 100% sure bitCNY was a tiny part of dacx case.
the actual thing is,CHINESE IS WITHDRAWING their money to invest in their bullish stock market..also,maybe lose faith and upset the slow progress of 3I.

I have a feeling we hit bottom finally!  +5%

I dont know, and I'm not going to say anything is a bottom anymore, but...
That bter dump.  I just bought bts in the 1800s.  Bought over 400k in the past week (mostly on btc38) due to people dumping into low buy orders.  First time I've done any real buying since the day bter went down.  For two months after that I didnt really want to have anything to do with crypto, too painful.

But the BTS price before was "low", now its absurd.

I think bear is done... look for a multi month uptrend.

If btc can continue this little rally then things look pretty good.  It would look like a retest that made a significantly higher low ($213 vs $160ish).  This could set the stage for a btc rally, and then altcoins could start to follow.

(Of course, this depends on the BTC rally being real, and not just an artifact of some weirdness going on at btc-e).

It is all BTC fault...

 BTS goes down only when:
-BTC moves up;
-BTC moves down;

If BTC stays the same we will be in much better form.

It is all BTC fault...

 BTS goes down only when:
-BTC moves up;
-BTC moves down;

If BTC stays the same we will be in much better form.

Anyone think we might go as low as Nxt?

I have a feeling we hit bottom finally!  +5%

I dont know, and I'm not going to say anything is a bottom anymore, but...
That bter dump.  I just bought bts in the 1800s.  Bought over 400k in the past week (mostly on btc38) due to people dumping into low buy orders.  First time I've done any real buying since the day bter went down.  For two months after that I didnt really want to have anything to do with crypto, too painful.

But the BTS price before was "low", now its absurd.

Absurd price it's good time to buy.  :)

lzr1900 all we need is to be ready for when hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of people wake up from their economic nightmare and begin searching for an alternative.

I'm a bit protectionist and idealistic, but if my stubbornness gives hope then I guess it is worth its drawbacks.
Sorry to hear about your grandfather passing...makes me think I need to call mine more...though I don't think he'd be as pumped about the news of what we are doing :P

Some good things are coming to beyond bitcoin, btw, so looking forward to everyone getting to see the changes and the guests.  Tonight when you say your prayers you can tell your grandpa we are going to do ok :)

There are three types of people in this situation: Those that add value, those that watch passively, and those that demand value. The first type is critical. The second type is needed. The third type is mostly just annoying.

Without reiteration businesses fail.

The direction we're going creates a more open platform with more options and gets rid of nothing.  I don't understand how people are getting so fearful from this.

Change is necessary and has always been.

Exactly. You are right on the money. Those that leave room to innovate have a much better chance of success. Stand still and you will become irrelevant. Don't be afraid to change.

Build it right and they will come. The share price is irrelevant. Most companies don't IPO until they are well established. Crypto and by extension crowd funding has created a more open process but not a new one.

you pathetic poor guys.

Bitshares is the best protocol at present. The constant changing is what is causing problems.  So I hodl.

I feel this is half-right, but it's the nature of the change that is important. In fact I believe constant change is absolutely necessary to becoming the best we ever can be.  I think what is causing sentiment problems is the lack of a map. It's hard for people to see a clear direction. Without a clear map of what system design we are shooting for, and how each component will ultimately fit into it, the risk is that those changes can appear reactive and undirected.

I do agree with you but id make it even simpler.   Just have a plan and stick to it.  The delegate system allows us to find consensus in ways other cryptos can only dream of having. DPOS is the only one out there.

I tend to agree with you though on this topic and others..

I think we should add code that doesn't allow bitshares to fall in price.  Bytemaster, code this now and then release a version that takes bts to 10bil market cap in 30 days. Thnx in advance.

There's a better way! Go to the ADVANCED tab, then CONSOLE. Type in : get_rich_quick [account_name]

To escape this downtrend we need to make it as easy to deposit into wallet.bitshares.org and trade as it is in btc38.com

Dilution or the finer points of shorting are not the cause of the downtrend, the product just isnt quite ready yet.
