I honestly believe the Bitcoin core devs will be forced to address this issue or admit defeat.  As the guy that created DPoS, I think this is an important thread for the Larimer (Larimi - plural? ).

The Bitcoin consensus mechanism is incorrectly labeled Proof of Work

What does Bitshares gain by getting involved in that?
What does it lose? Just time.

I'd say I'd like to see some btc Devs respond to it and converse with bm about the merits of dpos or lack thereof

I'd love to host a hangout if people can help me get in touch with any of the core devs :)
+5% that would be pretty cool

Because if you read my second reply to the post here, which is probably better than the original post:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176835.msg12395590#msg12395590

You would see where I said:

"The only way to address this cascading failure of distributed consensus, is to either implement the Andrew Miller non-outsourcable problem to prevent them from delegating at all, or to make all participants immortal via a deterministic block validator set such as DPoS.  These are the only two options to move forward."

The Andrew Miller solution isn't economically viable, so would lose on the open market.  Still, the only way BTC can really stay afloat at all at this point, is to implement the Andrew Miller solution then have some kind of radical fixes to P2pool.

Let me repeat myself: pooled mining killed bitcoin ... and ethereum is on its best way to follow the same road ... luckily they are forced to switch over to a pos scheme!

I've never been able to make this point so clear.  Nice job!

Pools merely distribute the workload of a single signer!
"Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!"
"Nothing to see here, move along!"

I plan to adopt DPOW as my favorite way to explain what Bitcoin has become.  Three "delegates" sign over half it's blocks.

:)

Doing non-delegated proof of work would be proof of waste ... figuratively

Nice post

Yeah, we have been arguing for a while that DPoS is "sufficiently decentralized" or "more decentralized than the large bitcoin mining pools".  We are just building the answer, and waiting for the world to figure out that we have it.  Oh yeah, and creating a referral program in 2.0 so that you can get paid for showing people that we have the answer and bringing them on board. ;)

Keep it up r0ach! I'm following your threads, great reading. Even though it's way over my head. The conversations you're having are the only reason I go to BCT, these days.
