Cryptonomex is share dropping 100% on the BTS blockchain in exchange for hiring away all its core developers. The alternative is for them to share drop 20%, in accordance with the social contract, and then compete directly.

Greed would be: Forking the public domain software, hiring away the core devs, and telling us all to go get bent.

This situation is far from optimal but given the circumstances I'm pretty happy with the new lifeline and the cost of it.

Your point?   Everything the AGS funds paid for has been given away for free as public domain.  CNX has not laid claim to anything created by AGS.

Unfortunately the AGS funds were not limitless and are now long gone.

Can the licensing be made in such a way as if to say that any new chain can use it provided they sharedrop 20% on BTS.

(Not going to happen as CNX won't like it, but wondered if it is a possibility)

All code as of June 1, 2015 will be released under the CC0 1.0 Universal license (https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/legalcode)
  • All future work performed by Cryptonomex will be a derivative owned by Cryptonomex, Inc and will be licensed for use with BitShares under the BSD 3 clause license (http://opensource.org/licenses/BSD-3-Clause) where BitShares shall refer to a single logical blockchain regardless of how many side-chains it may add in the future.    Rights to use the work for any other blockchain are reserved to Cryptonomex, Inc.
  • All future additions to BitShares will be licensed by their respective authors according to the terms laid out in their individual worker proposals.
Cryptonomex is committed to the long-term success of BitShares and will depend upon the BitShares community as much as the BitShares community depends upon us.

Anything is possible, especially if the new chain wants to court the BTS community in that fashion, but it would be independent of any licensing/consulting deal they worked out with Cryptonomix I'd imagine.

Initially, if there was new chain based on the toolkit we expected a sharedrop, but I assume that's out of the window now?

PLAY and Music were sharedropped on the AGS/PTS(BTS) , but don't know if they could pay for a licence .

Music is working with us and we are already being funded by them for customizations that will flow back in to BTS.

What if something radical needs to happen in future like the Bitshares blockchain is forked to make two take care of different areas and targets?

BitShares 2.0, Graphene & Cryptonomex

After much discussion with those in the BitShares community over the licensing terms of Graphene and BitShares 2.0, Cryptonomex has decided to take the following actions:

  • All code as of June 1, 2015 will be released under the CC0 1.0 Universal license (https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/legalcode)
Cryptonomex will continue to propose upgrades to BitShares to be funded with stakeholder approval. In all such proposals Cryptonomex will retain the copyright on the work and license it for use with the BitShares blockchain under the BSD license.  All other uses for such future work will be reserved to Cryptonomex.

Cryptonomex has not accepted any funding from the Angel Shares donations made to Invictus.

Cryptonomex is committed to the long-term success of BitShares and will depend upon the BitShares community as much as the BitShares community depends upon us.
