Newbie here... How do I back up my wallet?

In the upper left corner click on "File"  and then in the drop down menu click on "Export Wallet".

Use http://blog.smartcoin.pw/2015/09/bitshares-how-to-prepare-your-wallet.html this method

also possible to use the application menu directly for export ... on OSX it is at top .. thb idk where it is on newer win version ..

The menu item DOES NOT work, that generates an old-school backup, not something that can be imported into graphene.

you will need to upgrade to 0.9.3.  Also looks like you will need to use the full path in the export command.  Fav wrote up a good little how to at http://blog.smartcoin.pw/2015/09/bitshares-how-to-prepare-your-wallet.html

Allright , I installed the one I downloaded from github and its v0.4.25-RC1 . Whats that ?

That is a mistake, the wrong file got uploaded (hence a pre-release).   I am building a new 0.9.3 release and will post it shortly.

You wont lose your balances.  You will need to export your wallet into a special back up.  Then after the upgrade you will import that file into the new wallet, and claim your balances.  specifically if you are using version 0.9.3 you will need to go to the console
click your account name in the upper right hand corner.
click advanced
click the >_console button
type in
Code: [Select]
wallet_export_keys default.json
This will generate a file called default.json in the same folder you are running your BitShares client in.
Once you launch the new wallet you will import this file and claim your balances.

You have nothing to do.   If you keep a backup of your existing wallet.
