DataSecurityNode,

You're right mate. I can see you're welcome grounded in reality :)
The idea of banks and governments stealing your money is just an abstract idea to the average Joe. It's like a distant concept 'you see on the news'.

Your idea of appealing to the more superficial desires of the average Joe is far more likely to get their attention.

Thom,

Good question.
Fear of having your money stolen by banks and governments would be a strong emotional motivator I'd say.

'Protect your wealth with a blockchain' type of thing.

That is only a strong motivator when it is within the realms of probability. Greece for example with what happened recently made that probable there. For the rest of the western world though.. they view banks as far more secure and guaranteed than a motley crew of programmers coming along telling them they should trust them instead of the banks.

I think if you surveyed 10 people off the street, you would get a similar response to what I just stated... similar with 100.. or 1000.

The greatest motivator today for our neo demographic is convenience and personalization of services being used in my estimation.

Fear of banks just won't play out in the real world unless we are in a state like Greece.

Demand. At the end of the day, that's all that gives anything value.
^^^^^^^^^^^ THIS +5% +5% +5% +5%

Each of us attribute value to different things, it has a subjective side to it. That's not to say ALL value is subjective. Money or a medium of exchange is one way to universalize or aggregate individual, subjective values into a commonly agreed on value. Even still, some will pay huge sums of money for things I could care less about and would never pay anything for, so to say it's universal is not accurate.

A market is identified by a thing or a demand for a thing, be it a service or object, tangible or intangible, such as software, ideas or IP.

I wrote that before I watched the video, which is quite good actually. However one important point mentioned but only in passing, is the role emotions play in how humans value things. One obvious example is how sex is coupled to advertising to sell things. That's extremely common.

So how can emotion be used to enhance demand for BitShares?Perhaps SollarsNSense can produce a video of Steven Spielburg quality that tugs on our heart strings or hits a hot button of emotions to stimulate demand. Just a thought.

Lack of arbitrage is the problem, isn't it. And this 'should' solves it.

I started thinking about it, Bitshares isn't a stock or ownership over the company that is writing this software, right?

And it doesn't have any revenue stream associated with it. Right? The delegates are the ones who get paid, right?

I'm not saying it doesn't, I'm just trying to figure it out, what gives BitShares value?

I've been looking for an opportunity to make my first real contribution to the BitShares community, and you gave me it. Thank you.

Your question has a multi-dimensional answer so I've created a video in which to provide it:

Thank you both.
The recording part is actually the easiest and the quickest bit. The bit that takes the time is preparing the content.

It took me a couple of days to set it up but I enjoyed doing it.
I'll be hunting around the forums for more questions to create videos from :D

I really liked reading your work!

need.
If bitshares can solve some real problems, then there will be some needs and bitshare has value.

The fail of bitshares 1.0 is because it failed to solve any problem.  Let us see whether bitshares 2.0 will or not.

Um, actually...

Nice list, I haven't seen it passed around before. What happened to atomic cross chain trading? If it's possible I think that would have been the road to go down as opposed to one chain to rule them all.

With BitAssets alone, BitShares targets a several hundred trillion dollars market. Each BitAsset is backed by 3 (soon 2) times its value in BTS. So if there are 1 billion BitUSD out there, the BTS blockchain is worth at least $3 billion. So demand for BitAssets directly drives demand for BTS, BitAssets alone are a game changer, and could give tremendous value to BTS.

Add to that User Issued Assets, smart contracts, decentralized voting... BitShares brings economic freedom, can replace banks, and is a formidable platform to build efficient businesses on.
