Probably a good idea to give one more person access to support tip funds, barwizi is a good candidate. I can just share key for the same address.

Counting up who has done support for how long each day is not going to be scalable, let's try to move towards a system where money is split between a list of reliable staff who get paid consistently and bounties on particularly tough theads

Agreed.   I am giving you a 300 pts per month budget manage salary vs tips how ever gets the job done.

If you guys are cool with it. the staff that receive abd distribute the rewards should have a small ledger that they can tally up what has been paid out, maybe a google doc? Helps with keeping records and all staff can add new payouts easily that can be viewed by anyone with the link.

good idea

Here's how the first 390 are being spent. This was based on me and barwizi scanning over the last month of activity and doing our best to be fair. Let us know if we missed something big.
The remaining ~100 will be used to pay for the next two weeks and to correct any injustices in the current payout.

Will update this post with the transaction when I get to it (today)

It seems like their should be 150 PTS not 100 reserved for the next 2 weeks given it was an advance on future work and not to pay as a bonus for past work... just saying.

Good point, I will scale down appropriately so all will receive 340/390ths the amount I listed

so there is the possibility of a bonus? nice!!

indeed, and now i have more time next weeks so i will try to help more  ... :)

I did not have addresses for the following people and will send theirs separately:
andhar
cassiopaia
FreeTrade

You will notice I sent the wrong amount back to the support address, so there's about ~37 in a change address. I will send those back to the support address in the next tx I do.

bytemaster just marked 450 pts payout intended for jan 12th through feb 28th so 490 pts is the support balance as soon as that tx goes through.
Barwizi and I will come up with an allocation and pay most of this (~350) quite soon, and the rest around feb 27th

Whoops I forgot I was going to pay out early/twice. Here is the most recent plan.

Current balance is 40. On 2/13 I should receive  another 300 PTS from bytemaster and will split this amount among the 5 or so active supporters.

It'd be cool to receive half of our allowance for the following month early (like 150pts on 2/27) so people can get BTS for the pts they're earning. We can also re-sync since it's also easier to remember end-of-month payments rather than "on the 13th".

Yes, yes, pay out asap!!!

Last tip was paid 1/13, on 2/1 and 2/27 I will pay people who have been active and doing support.
That should be just under 400 PTS distributed among support staff before first test freeze.

People who I will include as of right now (will keep an eye on things and add people, this is just off the top of my head)

barwizi

What is the status on tips being paid?   If toast is too busy to check in daily and pay tips then perhaps I can delegate the task to barwizi or split it 50/50?  Any other volunteers to participate in tipping those that support customers?

My apologies - no payouts because I was AFK most of the day. I will also have low availability over the next 2 days (traveling, interviews).
I promise to catch up before next week. Extra juicy payouts for those that keep up support in the meantime.

In my opinion you should be tipping Dan/Stan

Haha, they absolutely deserve it, but tipping your boss is weird...

I don't view myself as a boss, but more of a team coordinator and leader.  My job is to allocate Angel Shares funds and it can get politically challenging to allocate any to myself.  So if I delegate funds for tipping and you feel I have earned it then that will be my personal reward.  Otherwise, I am effectively doing everything for less than I earned at my prior job.  So tips are appreciated.

The only applicable boards are the foreign language boards. Any english support threads will be moved to Technical Support, assuming amazon is ok with giving me global mod.

Since I can only understand Russian and Spanish I'll need help with checking the status of support threads in other languages (for example, I need to know which of ripplexiaoshan's support threads have been resolved and which haven't).

I think we should keep funds in one help address rather than splitting funds up preemptively for subforums. This unfortunately means that foreign language boards will have to keep me posted about various support threads. This can be made less annoying by reporting threads in batches, maybe groups of 4-5.

Sure, I am glad giving you global mod and also assuming master won't mind. It will be much easier for you to move topics. I have contacted Ripplexiaoshan about Chinese board mod, I will also help there.

You may find one or two more mods for the board if you think necessary. As global mod, you will be able to create child board for Technical Support.

I will be updating the OP with payouts, so we can keep the thread clean for discussion. First payouts coming shortly.

Edit: nvm, it won't scale to keep it in one post. Perhaps I will start a google doc when we're a bit more organized, for now I will log things here.

I don't think keeping track of individual threads is a scalable solution. The first problem is that multiple people could help per thread, and suggested solutions are often as valuable as the one that ends up getting it right. The second problem is that for some threads it is not clear if the problem is still unresolved or if the OP just hasn't responded.

For now, I will just use my best judgement. I welcome feedback. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you think I missed a good deal of effort.

I will exclusively use the term "tip" from now on so to reduce the expectation of perfectly justified support payouts and encourage people to be helpful without expecting guaranteed payment.

1/2/2014

Today's payouts are 2.5 PTS each to toast, ripplexiaofan, and Amazon. This leaves (2.5 - tx fee) rollover.
Tx id for payment to me and ripplexiaofan: 6ce1feaead10b61b90e7e3cdbf6f14c05cd214f3d883a29861876cc4bb2c1a54
Waiting on Amazon to give me an address. Edit: got it, tx id: 82ab14cdfb86086db45cf37c03072256d61c3c9423cd4dc9dae06dce3d61bb9f

edit: 0.01 PTS that I intended as a tx fee got sent to a change addr. You'll see it reappear with amazon's transaction.

I agree, any technical post here will be guaranteed to be answered. Is it possible that questions in other sub forums be moved to here without affecting the questioner? So that similar answers can be the reference for later people. If so, who has the permission?

I have the feeling most of us who can deliver support do so on any board. When I am capabale of answering anothers question I generally do so to the best of my ability. For now I think it is best if we all pick up issues on all the boards as they appear instead of restricting ourselves to specific boards.

I agree, I created this board more for people who have questions.  You can and should support everyone everywhere everytime and moderators should move new topics that are technical support requests to this thread to help out.

The customer here are the poor people coming to our forum for help.  We need to adapt to them and not expect them to adapt to us.

Good suggestion, but then how we can evaluate the work quality of each volunteer? If we have to post the link here to prove we helped people every time, that will be very annoying, especially when more and more members and questions emerge. I like answering questions, but I prefer making it a volunteer-tip way instead of work-paid way.

I also answered 4 or 5 questions in this sub forum https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?board=4.0

I propose that we distribute all the subforums to the volunteers firstly, like forum moderator, so that each volunteer are responsible for all the questions in that particular sub forum.  Then the total PTS can be given depending on the workload. We may shift now and then, cause the subforums are not evenly popular.

Maybe split it up at the end of the day. This way the 10 daily PTS will never fall short.

I am awarding 1 PTS to myself for this thread:

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=1902.0

Feedback time! Is this a good amount? I see 2 or 3 of this difficulty of support question per day (something a techie could find on google). Awarding 1 PTS will allow us to save up and award more for more difficult problems.

edit: Perhaps I should wait until the end of each day to award tips, to match the tip amount to the support volume.
edit 2: ok, ignore this post. I will issue payouts at the end of the day once we get more stuff figured out.

The support staff has a daily allowance of 10 PTS to award to anyone who provides help in this subforum.

I will use this thread to record payments as well as receive feedback about tipping. At the moment there are no concrete rules or procedures, I will simply award tips at my discretion. You can track our spending by monitoring this address:

https://coinplorer.com/PTS/Addresses/PhELPjyeugKnTEsMwBpnFQ6E8nZUR9CxzQ

For simplicity, please include your PTS address in your signature so that toast knows who to tip for your post.
Toast should maintain a public ledger with links to every post he tips and the amount of the tip.
Toast is also allowed to tip himself so long as it is reasonable.
