There is good and bad in every UI. If we create a poll to know which one is better, we will copy the bad things.

I think, the professional and semi professional traders of this forum should create a serius thread to list all the important features an UI needs.

Afterwards, we create a poll at BCT with multi vote on this very same list and we'll know which features are important for traders.

After having the important features we create another poll to have an idea of wich kind of display of these features are the best : Polo, MT4, FXCM, ...

Once it's done, we ask in a thread wich are the best and worst things in the best 2 or 3 best trading plateform winning the poll.

With all that info, there will be more interrogation on what to do, we'll know which display(s) to copy avoiding its flaws and which features to implement.

I suggest changing the black background,  or give the user the option to switch to a white or lighter color background.

According to a study made, 50% of the population suffers from astigmatism which makes reading light letters on dark backgrounds hard on their eyes.

+5% - Thank You.  I thought it was just cause I am old(er)...  I can't stand dark background.

We should have night mode and day mode imo, like polo.  I love night mode.

I also like night mode, but my gramma thinks it's too hard too read  :P

Jabbajabbas colors are better than the default.  Add a 24 hour change and 24 hour high low to the chart, and maybe some grid lines.  add the ability to change time frame on the chart, and make the candles get fatter or skinnier so that there is less space between them and they are easier to see.

On the right side move the other assets above the last price.  sort them by volume, with a scrollbar and a searchbar.  Fix the assets so that price, volume, and 24 hour change pop out to people.

maybe have a popup warning when you select a uia that this asset is not guaranteed by the bitshares network, but is backed by its creator.  With the ability to turn future warning for that asset off.

Those are the only things I can think of that I would change.  I think anyone that has traded on any alt exchanges could use our wallet right now just fine.  I think the minor tweaks I posted above would make it better than polos layout.

That is of course in addition to the needed changes in fees.  Low or no price for cancelled orders, and preferably percentage based for matched orders.

Okay, so what we want to do is copy polo, but make it so we need to do less scrolling.

Not necessarily Polo, at least imo. I agree that it's fine and user friendly. But if we can choose others we should take them into consideration. We should make a pool on bitcointalk and see what most people prefer. We want to attract new users.

I will not give my opinion on what to copy. mainly because I do not really like  the polo site, but most people praise it to no end. So I consider my personal opinions a bit off from the majority, in this area.

What do you not like about polo / like better elsewhere?  Perhaps we could combine multiple UI ideas and make something better.

I cannot see the orderbook and the graph or last sales at the same time...it takes scrawling. Maybe my small 15' screen is the issue.

I've also heard more people complain about the fact they need to be constantly scrolling through the page. That seems like an issue.

This is true.

3. Be very careful with the lending thing - you do not want to favour heavily the lending compared to shorting, as there is a chance if you do to dry up the shorters...i.e. move all of them to lending/borowing.

But wouldn't lending attract more shorters?  Or at least those who are willing to risk more to short?
in my mind they should offer substantially different things.so they serve different needs or risk profiles.

[edit] one having interest the other not having it is a good start btw.

Lack of arbitrage is the problem, isn't it. And this 'should' solves it.

Yes lets get away from trying to reinvent everything, and instead try to take what is already proven to work, and adapt it into the blockchain.

But you don't want an exact clone. You start with a template based on whatever is the best out there but you have to add your own magic to it. If it's exact clone they'll use the original.

They all have strengths and weaknesses. Autosell for example is a strong feature, very popular.

I don't know how much work it is, but couldn't they just offer several skins to meet everyone's taste?
Allow custom css scripts per link with hash checking.

for example here is a link for a poloniex theme (which is not perfect but close  :)) https://beyondbitcoin.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/polographiene.css

I currently use it with stylish on openledger.
