*Update*
Mike Hearn has responded to my email.  Thanks, btw, @CLains for sending a second one--it really cannot be understated just how important it is that even one other person supported this--it very well might have made us stick out from the crowd and I applaud CLains for being the only one to have the inner drive to send such a supportive message.

With that said, though Mike declined at this time for the seeming reason that he didn't want to cause more waves than he already had.  However, we now have a direct link to contact him that we know works.  Also, we have him remembering the concept of "beyond bitcoin" just from seeing the email that he responded to.  In the future, these things give us a higher chance of bringing him onboard.  I responded to him telling him we greatly appreciate his bravery in bringing up topics we have largely felt outcasted for bringing up in the past and told him we understand how it feels to try to tell the truth to the community...not to hurt, but to help.

With this said, however, if you donated to this and would like to sell back your COPPERTICKET and SILVERTICKET please feel free to send them back for a full redemption of BTS.  If you do not redeem them, I will likely use them as a growing pool of carrots with which to bring other High Profile individuals on to speak with us.

As always, thanks for trusting me and thank you for the privilege of serving a community of core individuals who really do care about liberating tech.
If this can be done via this thread to help provide easy transparency, please do so.  If not, please post the link along with the amount you are sending back.

I like the carrot pool idea.. also, I sent some BTS but don't think I got a ticket :)

Definitely not against that.  But the bot gives me the ability to put tokens in the hands of people who are developing blockchain technology and beyond bitcoin enables me to use that to try to bring him on by paying him so we can bring eyes.

Building awesome stuff is also part of this, but I would love to bring attention to bitshares and some of the solutions we have available if only we can get more people looking at our project and what it can do.  If we can get other devs here then it is even better and now I have tools to help bring the community together around these ideas.

With that said, don't think that I don't bring people on who are building things.  We have had hangouts the past few weeks with kencode and he is building OPENPOS with Chris4210.

I get your point, but just disagree I suppose.  Glad we are still allowed to do that!

@fuzzy thank you. I will send you 2,000 later today.

Regarding the list I would like also Andreas Antonopoulos.

He has done an extremely good job helping Bitcoin in many ways,

however he is too bitcoin centric, everything other than bitcoin isn't good for him. He sees bitcoin in a pedestal and doesn't accept the idea of any other cryptos. At least that's my opinion of what I've seen of him. It's either bitcoin or nothing.

@Akado that is why it would be interesting to have him in a hangout. It would be a debate. There is no purpose doing hangouts with external parties that agree that bitshares is better than bitcoin. We should want to have debates with bitcoin enthusiasts and convince them why bitshares is better.

@fuzzy just to let you know that if you have sent me any copper or silvercoin nothing has gone through.

I agree but my opinion about him is you might try to justify with all the rational arguments and facts that he will just continue to say no, just because. He has done some pretty bold statements in the past that I was pretty amazed to see from someone like him. I don't remember about what though, maybe PoW vs PoS? Can't remember for sure.

I remember one comparison with a metaphor about cars and wheels? I don't remember if it was that one but it was something that atm made zero sense to me.

Still, I might be wrong. I'd welcome him or anyone else of course, as long as they actually debate stuff instead of just saying: no this won't work, btc is better.

I think one awesome theme to any of those guys would be Governance. How Bitcoin governance may seem to have some problems and has involved coercion and corruption (assuming Mike Hearns arguments are true). How BitShares aims to solve that. What other solutions should bitcoin or us consider, etc. Or how could BItsahres and bitcoin help each other mutually

Could someone please explain what's with the hype around Mike Hearn?
You have an individual that's walked around calling himself a core Bitcoin Dev when his contribution weren't major, profited from his involvement in Bitcoin (personal growth) - and then went on to criticise the system when he found it convenient to do so ? Aren't we having dual standards between him and Charles Hoskinson ?
How about we invite actual businesses instead of "celebrities"  into our ecosystem and back them for projects ?

Can I upgrade my copper ticket to silver by adding 1000? :)
You can add 1000 BTS and get 50 COPPERTICKET

Send all of them back to me within this thread using the sharebot I will gladly redeem them for a  SILVERTICKET

Sorry for any difficulty on this but if everyone is using the ShareBot I don't have to go back and forth between wallets and figuring out which accounts on the forums match those in the wallets that are sending them to me.  Not only that, it enables all of you to audit me when I can run these transparently on the forums.  I will begin in the future to request all participants use the sharebot for this reason.

For this time, however, I will go through my wallet and get it all together manually.  Thanks for understanding, but I do have to say I appreciate the support and also the tools that are now available to me to help create and log participants in initiatives :)

I will be giving 1 SilverTicket for each 1000BTS donated.  SilverTickets are my way of giving a little extra to those who sacrifice for our community and as such will be used to enter special events.  Naturally, this event with Mike Hearn, if we can get him on...would be one such event.  :)

Is it 1000BTS donate for a 1 SilverTicket or 2000?

hehe...please tell me if you guys didn't receive them and feel free to sell them if you want.  It is time to start reaching out to bring other cryptos to bitshares.  Sharebits has been a tool that enables me to do this...and I am not the only one allowed to use (or profit) from it.

I figured rather than fight people I'd show them how the tools can be used.  Sometimes people need to see how vision can create value and be shown that the only way to make something real is to stop complaining and search for answers (often knowing you will be criticized along the way).

This still requires all of you though so I will prove to everyone why it was worth so much of ronny's, the community's and my donations to the project.  It is not perfect yet but the more we use it and the more we use our passion and vision to wield it with power...the more powerful it will become for us as a tool.

I have to thank @kuro112, @Xypher, @hybridd for making this possible and for giving myself and our community such a powerful tool for sharing bitshares with the world outside the forums....and also being able to create quests to transparently pay them out internally within any given community that has implemented it.

Thanks to you too @CLains...you understand the psychology of it all and it shows. :)

I think inviting Mike Hearn for a hangout is a very good idea!

@fuzzy . People donating bts will receive copper and silver tickets from you, but are you going to keep those bts donations for yourself or those bts will be given to Mike Hearn for accepting an interview?

Edit:

@fuzzy sorry just read the OP again and clearly those bts will be given to Mike. What if he never responds to emails and he doesn't accept the invitation? Should I assume that you will keep those bts for the future for inviting someone else special?

That would be a great idea, but I would prefer to send them back if that happens.  Or perhaps we can compile a list of people in addition to mike hearn?

If you want to earn 20 more COPPERTICKET, you can send Mike Hearn an email asking to join us in a discussion, send it and provide a screenshot using imgur.com or any other site that enables you to post images to the forums.

Check out here for a guide on how to post screenshots: http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php?topic=61232.0

I have sent an email to mike hearn.  lets see what he says.

Also,

Here is a list of individuals who have given to the pool of donations:

frozenfan      1500
clains     1000
panagiotis     6000
zapply81     2000
onceuponatime      5000
clayop     1000
donkeypong  2000
spring    1000

For a total of 19500 BTS.  Thank you to each of you and in return I will be giving you 1 SILVERTICKET for each 2000 donated.  If you have less than that you will receive 1 COPPERTICKET for each 20 BTS donated.  So if you donate 1000 BTS you will receive 50 COPPERTICKET

SILVERTICKETs are used to gain access to special "Bonus Hangouts" that we will be having in the future.  SILVERTICKETs can be purchased only from myself at present (at a rate of 2000bts each), but could find their way into the hands of others (for doing good works), who might give them away or sell/trade them as they wish.  COPPERTICKET are created at a 100:1 ratio with Silver, and are used to purchase Silver tickets from me.  I will be giving COPPERTICKETs for participation in various initiatives in the future.

Those who posted in this thread and continued discussing it will receive 5 COPPERT's.  :)

Initially I thought it might be good to get Hearn on the BBC show, from the standpoint he is controversial and it might attract attention to BitShares and allow us to highlight our solutions to various problems in the Bitcoin ecosystem. Our pro regulation features might be interesting to him and stimulate his interest in coming on.

You had it right with the first paragraph. Sometimes we need to leave our safe place and start interacting with people that might cause a little controversy. Sometimes there's alignment in goals even if there's disagreement on how we get there.  I read some comments about upsetting the Bitcoin community. What? We're barely a spec on the radar outside of this forum. Let's get the word out to a bigger community with confidence that our platform is a better way to get to financial independence.

If we feel he's going to say something that puts Bitshares in a bad light and we're not able to intelligently address it,  that's more our issue than his.

Yeah, bitcoin fanatics will like us more if we don't invite Hearn(LOL), should we invite Gavin if we had the oportunity or he is a red flag to the bicoin zealot herd too?  It seems that we are far more inclined to hear FUD from newmine and his group of "enlightned" fud-trolls than to hear someone like Hearn, really?

imho if we can have him in beyond bitcoin it would be great!

Our pro regulation features might be interesting to him and stimulate his interest in coming on.

I am now of a different view. Personally I never liked the guy. Every interview I've seen with him gives me the strong impression his motives are not aligned with the original core values of Bitcoin and certainly not my own. He always comes across as someone who just doesn't "get it" and why decentralization and disruption of the bankster cartel is Top Priority, Mission 1.

So although it may lead to a lot of publicity and downloads of the audio for such a BBC show, I tend to think it would cast us in a bad light, unless the interview was more like a 60 minute "hit" piece, which casts a bad image on BBC.

So even if we could entice him to a BBC interview, I tend to think it's not in the best interests of BitShares.

I watched his presentation in London around 2013 sometimes when he was just in transition from Google to Circle. He was than promoting blacklisting of coins which did not receive very good reaction from some of the audience. I think if we invite him we are just giving another reason to Bitcoin community to dislike us.

 +5%

Also it may give him a free paid shot to criticize another competitor to "Bankcoin".

I applaud the initiative here, but I think the speaker "disgruntled competitor" should be left to speak at the next Fed meeting instead.

I'd rather pay Jim Willie (or someone like him) to come back on, but he's actually cool enough to come on for free.

If you do get Mike Hearn into a Mumble session, I sure hope you're ready to be muting others ... a lot. ;)

... sent with love. :)

I agree.. there is also the threat that the meeting will get DDOSed along with the rest of the community/network. Big banks might be able to handle that but not us.

redlisting/blacklisting some bitcoins?  Is this a joke?

I cannot agree more with you.

I think any news is good bad news if you get Hearn on... but I also think it's better to reach out to the other side as well.  I think it's more important to get the broader Bitcoin community on board with Bitshares than create more divisiveness.  Hearn is already an outcast and even more so now.

Mike is working for R3 and the timing of his post with NYT article cast suspicions on his agenda.  If he has become an outcast with the bitcoin community, inviting him at this sensitive time is inviting bitcoiners' enmity.

Great idea! Sent 1000 :)

If we get him on the show, a lot of Bitcoin eyes will be on it. A chance to be completely objective, taking neither the side of Mike Hearn nor the Bitcoin Maximalists, but simultaneously questioning his motive to go a privatized blockchain and agreeing that there are problems with working for a public blockchain at the moment. Perfect chance to hint at the raison d'etre of BitShares, which is exactly to navigate between the centralized privatized alternatives, and the organizationless mess that most of the public chains are (and admittedly BitShares, Dash, still are [a mess].. but aspire not to be, in a way Bitcoin can learn from).

Somebody like this is probably too big to simply join the BitShares team. He would want to start his own project and have it be his idea. If you talk to him, you might want to frame it in terms of the overall potential + the areas where this ecosystem would benefit from new businesses/layers/solutions.

But we would not be asking him to "join the BitShares team". We would be asking him to accept a PAID invitation to do a presentation and Q&A in Mumble at a specific time, and we could advertise the shit out of it far and wide.

I'm all in favor of it. But inevitably, these shows end up trying to find common ground with the guest. I know the shows are supposed to be wide-ranging, but it's basically a BitShares crowd, and so in the end, is this person going to have any overlap with our project or not?

My hope is that we could advertise a Mumble session with Hearn far and wide in the Bitcoin and other alts worlds and get a goodly crowd of crypto enthusiasts to show up. I know they might try to shout him down, but with Fuzzy masterfully at the Mute control, and some pre-arranged questions, we should be able to start overcoming the bitshares awareness gap amongst crypto enthusiasts.

Not a surprising reaction to be honest. While I agree with some of his points, I'm not convinced he had the best of intentions doing it this way. Also why would his NY-article going live be part of the onstage R3-presentation? How did they even know the exact minute the article went live? That makes the whole thing a lot less ... spontaneous ... in my point of view.

Sounds like a good idea .. to approach him, we need something like an open letter that touches the right buttons and makes him curious to try it out .. I'll try to write a short draft for this next week ... unless someone else can do it faster ..

Brilliant idea!  There are probably 1,000 people to whom an open letter would be appropriate...

Psychologically, many people like getting letters, and many people are also are flattered if a community wants to welcome them with open arms.  This could be a generally useful outreach strategy...

Nice idea. But can't you just stick with BTS or at least with your Brownie Points? I'm not sure we need more UIAs with questionable value floating around.

I no longer am BM's Brownie Distributor for reasons of not wanting to have conflicts of interest.  I am still very happy though that BM asked me to do it...because it is one of the main reasons we got the Sharebot up and running--to make it easier for him to distribute them himself, but to also enable EVERYONE else to distribute their own tokens :)

As for sticking with BTS, I am asking specifically for donations in BTS.  So you can check that off the list.  Hope that clarifies :)

I am reaching out to the community regarding mike hearns new article about bitcoin's problems and the possiblity of crowdsourcing donations to pay him to come on for a hangout.

I will be giving 1 SilverTicket for each 1000BTS donated.  SilverTickets are my way of giving a little extra to those who sacrifice for our community and as such will be used to enter special events.  Naturally, this event with Mike Hearn, if we can get him on...would be one such event.  :)

You can donate to this in two ways:
1) use sharebits to send it directly through the forum (makes it transparent and easier for me to track in order to reward you with the appropriate silverticket amount).
2) send to browniedistro with memo: "mike hearn"
