Great idea! Sent 1000 :)

If we get him on the show, a lot of Bitcoin eyes will be on it. A chance to be completely objective, taking neither the side of Mike Hearn nor the Bitcoin Maximalists, but simultaneously questioning his motive to go a privatized blockchain and agreeing that there are problems with working for a public blockchain at the moment. Perfect chance to hint at the raison d'etre of BitShares, which is exactly to navigate between the centralized privatized alternatives, and the organizationless mess that most of the public chains are (and admittedly BitShares, Dash, still are [a mess].. but aspire not to be, in a way Bitcoin can learn from).

Somebody like this is probably too big to simply join the BitShares team. He would want to start his own project and have it be his idea. If you talk to him, you might want to frame it in terms of the overall potential + the areas where this ecosystem would benefit from new businesses/layers/solutions.

But we would not be asking him to "join the BitShares team". We would be asking him to accept a PAID invitation to do a presentation and Q&A in Mumble at a specific time, and we could advertise the shit out of it far and wide.

I'm all in favor of it. But inevitably, these shows end up trying to find common ground with the guest. I know the shows are supposed to be wide-ranging, but it's basically a BitShares crowd, and so in the end, is this person going to have any overlap with our project or not?

My hope is that we could advertise a Mumble session with Hearn far and wide in the Bitcoin and other alts worlds and get a goodly crowd of crypto enthusiasts to show up. I know they might try to shout him down, but with Fuzzy masterfully at the Mute control, and some pre-arranged questions, we should be able to start overcoming the bitshares awareness gap amongst crypto enthusiasts.

I don't have any particular opinion on what we should talk about. I'm aware of the arguments for and against such a scheme. I'm interested in new insights or thoughts....

I think this is a topic on which the Foundation should eventually arrive at a coherent policy for. Of course I know that won't be easy.

There is some bad blood already:

Stupid r/bitcoin ..
full of [fill in an appropriate term]

Not a surprising reaction to be honest. While I agree with some of his points, I'm not convinced he had the best of intentions doing it this way. Also why would his NY-article going live be part of the onstage R3-presentation? How did they even know the exact minute the article went live? That makes the whole thing a lot less ... spontaneous ... in my point of view.

Interesting!
The banks respect Hearn. That we reach out to him is great. Once he understands BitShares, he hopefully will pitch it to his collegues.

Sounds like a good idea .. to approach him, we need something like an open letter that touches the right buttons and makes him curious to try it out .. I'll try to write a short draft for this next week ... unless someone else can do it faster ..

Brilliant idea!  There are probably 1,000 people to whom an open letter would be appropriate...

Psychologically, many people like getting letters, and many people are also are flattered if a community wants to welcome them with open arms.  This could be a generally useful outreach strategy...
