I mean with it to not act egoistic while the other person may be offended of my actions.

Or to understand that my knowledge might be not good enough to know why someone is doing what he does.

I kind of disagree with "respect" being a part of the foundation for freedom.
For me it's more the Non-aggression principle (NAP) that is part of freedom .. sometimes the NAP may come across as "respect for someone else" though
