Yes exchanges will trade in bips because they are the unit of account.

Was wondering how the percentage was going to be shown in the wallet.

The BIP seems to be a good solution.

But when you would like to transfer to an exchange are you sending BIP's or shares?

In other words, would this force a centralized exchange to trade in BIP's?

A crypto-equity is a more accurate description of what a crypto-currency is. Bitcoin is first and foremost a crypto-equity, when it is used as a medium of exchange, it becomes a crypto-currency. In the same ways shares in Apple (AAPL) are first and foremost an equity, but if they became bearer shares and started circulating in barter transactions they could become a currency as well.

Bitcoins are non-voting shares. All of the voting power is in the hands of the miners, who might or might not hold bitcoins.

As for using Bitcoin shares as media of exchange, Richard Rahn predicted this in 1999 in The End of Money.

In contrasct to APPL and USD and Gold etc. Bitcoin's value as a crypto equity solely comes from it's use a a currency / medium of exchange.
