Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on ANT-MAN due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.

Is this the beginning of the end for Marvel Studios being cool? Edgar Wright, who has been on Ant-Man since Phase One, left the project today. He isn't the first director that's parted ways with the studio close to production, but none have been as involved for as long.

This feels like a real bullshit move on Marvel's part, and it's only going to reinforce the idea that the studio shies away from using filmmakers who have personal visions. What's more, it's just crummy that this process could last this long and only now does the studio have a 'difference in their vision of the film'?

The cast will stay the same, and I imagine some version of the script by Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish will remain, if the studio is looking to hit next summer's release date. The big change is that the interesting, visionary filmmaker behind it all will no longer be involved. Good luck to whoever they hire to Brett Ratner this one.

such a bummer, not really looking forward to this one anymore  :'( :'( :'(
