I don't see how you would do something like a prediction market without either a trusted data feed or some sort of trusted decentralized data feed

How about BTS X market peg or Truthcoin SVD consensus vote thing?

What do you think it is we're doing here?  =P

You are right for more general contracts though, I'm just answering the question in the OP

Of course, something like this is planned for other DACs.

But the whole point of BitShares X is that you can *don't need them*. Saying "can we add oracles?" undersells the genius that is bts X.

That is an interesting answer. We wont need them sure but can we really recreate smart contract functionality which can interface with the real world without them?

I think for Bitshares X if it's going to remain separate from the real world that would be fine but I don't see how you would do something like a prediction market without either a trusted data feed or some sort of trusted decentralized data feed. If you had distributed oracles then we could turn the result of these distributed oracles into a trusted data feed.

So while it might not be for Bitshares X I would think it would be necessary for the MAS DAC.

In any case distributed oracles are interesting http://oracles.li/

If we had something like this we could do all sorts of things. It also doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to program for a guy like Bytemaster.

So could we have distributed oracles in Bitshares X?

Here is a whitepaper on distributed oracles https://github.com/orisi/wiki/wiki/Orisi-White-Paper
