Personally I will be disappointed if BitShares doesn't release their own news & relevant articles site.

I don't think a forum & a website is enough but I'm not sure their envisaged business model has properly taken account of the need for initial centralised marketing and ways at platforms to go about doing that.

I may be biased,  but I agree. With effective marketing there is a good chance of significantly increasing AGS investment...which could have netted far more in funds.  Still have over 27 days though!

+5% Must have cost them $5 million+ in additional AGS donations at least.

Our plan was to definatley incorporate delegate advertising spots. I think that after the initial DAC release and especcially when the delegate payout surpasses roughly $30,000 in value, EVERYONE will be interested. I think that our site in particular would have the capabiltiy of being a platform for canadates to discuss their goals and promises. I also think that in terms of revenue for the publication attracting people who want to advertise is a great idea.

Potential future site topic area:  Delegate Profiles

+5% I don't think it's ideal for the coindesk-esque site but a separate site for delegates could be good.

There could even be a bit of advertising space on the homepage which I'm sure in future delegates could be willing to pay for.

If you pursue the crowd funding of this project then I think it could be awesome. Just try to future proof it and go beyond what everyone expects.

Several things...

We are an informational website or magazine. Our goal is to publish material primarily on the bitshares DAC community (the inside scoop on developers and entrepenuers) We also plan to have a newbie section as well as basic explanations of the ENTIRE bitshares ecosystem (DPOS, DACS, a little bit about 3I). Our goal is to replicate a Coindesk essentially.

First Brian:

Smiley35 and I have already emailed you and Stan, we would love to collaborate and we need interviews to really create substantial content. I also think that although Bitshares is our primary focus in the beggining, there will not be enough content to fill the site. That is why we plan to dip our toe into Etherium, Mastercoin and NXT related topics (Bitcoin 2.0 space). Once Bitshares grows to a substantial size, we could interview all types of new DACS and really turn all of our energy into Bitshares.

To give you a good idea of this our name will have Bitshares in it.

Luckybit:

We plan to release a hard cover publication that will work as a way for people to support our news source. As you said, Give people a 1 year subscription and require whatever 5PTS/ .04BTC as payment ect...

We have thought about this thoroughly and are really excited to implement.

If anyone would like to colaborate please PM me, I have already talked to fuznuts.

Just like all Bitshares ventures, collaboration runs at the forefront.

I contacted you in PM with some suggestions. If you pursue the crowd funding of this project then I think it could be awesome. Just try to future proof it and go beyond what everyone expects.

Call it a Decentralized News Organization please not a mere site. Think big.

Replace the news as we know it. Decentralized.

Will your domain name have Bitshares in it?

It all sounds really good! The little that I know though, I didn't think magazines were that popular anymore and required a lot more effort than just a straightforward site.

Personally my initial thoughts are that unless we had some ownership of your site and a 5 year contract for some sort of exclusive affiliate program covering Bitshares and Bitshares DAC content. (Not that you're not covering relevant and exciting DAC's from Ethereum, NXT etc. but that we have a guaranteed slot that lets us contribute an article a week on a DAC/Subject of our choice and no such arrangements exist with other competing entities.)

Failing that I'd prefer it if Bitshares tried to drive forward it's own New & information Coindesk-esque site to ensure a popular platform would be available to market/Showcase Bitshares DAC's in the future.

Empirical1,

Great idea on the news site.  I've watched coindesk rise in the rankings as they've produced an incredibly in depth resource and capture a lot of eyes, so such a site could eventually get a lot of visitors.   My only thought is, if it's entirely DAC focused will we have enough news content to fill out the site?

As far as the 3-4 min weekly round up idea, I'm already on it.  I interviewed on video all the core devs in VA last week about the project, what they're working on, etc and am now editing a 3-5 min video out of it, kind of a "behind the scenes with BitShares" video.   I'm going to do another in July at the VA tech corporate research center where the team is now focusing operations.  That will be a "Summer of Code" video. So while not weekly, it will be monthly.   I also got some short updates in Chinese and Russian and I plan to continue to film people using non-english languages as well, so we can share our videos with as wide an audience as possible.... B

I think the round up videos are great, I also love that you're making some Chinese content as they seem to be driving a lot of the PTS volume . (PTS/CNY on BTC38 makes up like 70%+ volume lately.)

I still like the idea of a seperate 3-4 min weekly round up of Bitshares & DAC news for the week, but I realise that even though I suggested you as a presenter in the other thread, as you'll be focusing on marketing and not keeping up to date like BM on daily developments. BM would probably be the better candidate to do that and I'm told he already gives some sort of a weekly summary before the mumble session. (So a 3-5 minute version of that to camera like the Bitcoin weekly roundup on coindesk would be ideal.)

As far as having enough DAC news driven events to fill out the site right now, no. But in 9 months+ definitely.

So I think it's good to start it now and develop it slowly so that we're in the dominant position to be the coindesk of DAC news once it starts taking off.

I'd estimate that there are +-50 articles that could be derived from the Bitshares site that could be put in article format and loaded at one a day that would not seem dated. There are probably a handful of news stories that relate to DAC's every week too. So we could have a site that is worth checking a couple of times a week to start and build from there. (I doubt you guys have the time or resources to handle much more than that atm anyway.)

Possible subjects for articles - Keyhotee, DPOS, Maidsafe, Ethereum, Bitshares, 10 natural laws of DAC universe https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=2876.0, Significance of Consensus technology https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=2853.0, What does Blockchain 2.0 mean for Bitshares & other DAC's? , Truthcoin & prediction markets, Counterparty, NXT asset exchange, Sharedrops?, Titan,
Bitsharses music, Tatiana coin, Bitshares X, Bitshares DNS etc.
(That was just a quick skim through the forum but lots of stuff to make articles from that would seem up to date.)

DAC news from crypto currency conventions

Interviews with Bitshares staff, those round up videos you're making all make good article content for a site that could be seen as relevant 'news'.

We could also look at news coming out for crypto-currency in general and refocus a lot of the stories on how they relate to and impact DAC's.

I have a better idea.

Start an actual print magazine along with a website. DACUniverse?

Send the Sharedrops to whomever subscribes.
