To somebody whose capable of understanding the calculus in it (don't look at me) I suggest he start with the Bitcoin Whitepaper. Then move on to the Peercoin Whitepaper.

My brother is ever more intrigued by the potential inherent in blockchain technology, partly because of my continued insistence on beyond bitcoin stuff and the DAC-metaphor. In contrast to me, he is well versed in programming and should have no problem understanding how everything works. He is currently taking steps to understand how Bitcoin and Maidsafe works.

Do you guys have any suggestions on how to he should approach learning everything? His goal is something like understanding blockchain technology in sufficient detail that he can get together with a few of his friends to help innovate and maybe start something.
