BTS is deflationary
« on: November 21, 2014, 04:36:36 AM »

I had a 4+ year old inspiration.

BTS has a supply of ~3.6 Billion shares.(or whatever the actual max is). Not all this supply is current available for anyone. Some of it is left in  50 BTS chunks in future blocks.

In each block that we do not have 101 delegates taking 100% of the max allowed pay for that block, we are effectively decreasing the supply of BTS.

Correct.  There are about 3.7 billion BTS, and every 10 seconds when a block is created by a delegate at only 3% pay, 48.5 BTS is burned forever.
Every time someone pays a transaction fee or registers a delegate, BTS is burned forever.

Makes sense to me.  Unfortunately some people in the community like Empirical1.1 don't seem to agree.

Also:

During the past 24 hours, what has happened to the supply of BTS.  Its inflating right?

Nope, it has decreased by 50,700.   (And I mean actual supply.  Fees burned has exceeded inflation by 50,700 BTS today).

Maybe we should ask coinmarketcap.com to start using the 3.7 Bil number...and go down from there, with each passing day.
Just a semi-serious thought.

Just a thought.

I think that would be less accurate.

The coinamrketcap supply says "total available supply".  If bitcoin is 13.5 million supply, not 21 million, then we are at 2.5B right now, not 3.7.

We will have to settle for it saying 2.5B and then just not increasing very much. :)
