On this issue I agree with Stan.

Another thing is how to motivate developers/companies to invest their time/resources into mining s/w - but that is a diffrent story.

I think taking away options from users who are in this business because they dislike companies and corporations that monopolize options is a huge mistake, especially when trying to publicize and get interest in a new cryptocurrency..

Newbies were more confused with having that option remain in the solo miner because at these levels of difficulty (i.e., competition) nothing happens for days and weeks.  So we disabled it for that reason.  The source code is still available for those who want to experiment with it.

Meanwhile we are concentrating on a much, much better experience for the "little guy" in coming releases in our relentless pursuit of decentralization.  Please stay tuned.

People are free to create their own miners - PoW docs and reference source is available.

If its too slow I would have it as a stand alone option, but I agree, it goes against decentralized currency if you can't solo mine - now you have to sign up with a pool and pay their fees ect.

For me I would never solo mine anyway, but I like the feature and I think it supports the ideas.

Does removing solo mining from the official wallet mean it's not possible anymore at all, or could i just continue with the old client?

Stripped from the newbie help thread, I think this is a very important topic.

We removed it because it was too slow and people would be ignorant of it.

We need to integrate pool mining.

We removed solo mining because it could take over a month to find anything.

if you can't solo mine through console, this is a pretty sad decision. "decentralized currency" means freedom of choice, which would be missing now.

Missed the last response. Apologize for that. However, the coincidence that you just stopped the solo mining after all the delays still looks terrible. You should still allow solo mining. Let people decide that for themselves.
