Consistency in naming: Is it bitAssets or BitAssets?
« on: February 04, 2015, 06:21:37 AM »

I know this is a pretty minor issue but I would prefer to resolve it.

I have seen people using both versions. I would prefer if we were consistent with the capitalization in all official material. For example, bytemaster uses BitAssets and BitUSD, BitGold, etc. in his blog. The BitShares client also uses the capital B format. But the bitshares.org website uses bitAssets, bitUSD, bitGold, etc. (although there are some places where the website mistakenly uses the capital B format).

Personally, I prefer BitAssets, but whichever way the consensus goes is fine with me. I just want consistency.

Which capitalization do you prefer?

I much prefer bitAsset, looks much cleaner imo. I actually considered making a commit to change it in the wallet yesterday, but decided it wasn't really my decision to make.

I like the camel case version because it emphasises the currency symbol.
My opinions do not represent those of metaexchange unless explicitly stated.

@arhag Just a reminder that it should be BitGOLD or bitGOLD, all asset symbols are capitalized.

Slightly on-topic, I updated the web wallet asset creation name check yesterday to take into the latest rules:
  • Asset symbols must be capitalized and 3-8 characters long
  • A secondary symbol can be added after a "."
  • The total length can be up to 12 characters
  • "BIT" prefix is not allowed by the web wallet (not sure about the CLI)
  • Example: Rune could've made CFS.GOLD, CFS.MXLENGTH etc, but would've needed to register CFS first at 500k BTS cost

I can't recall which user, but someone in another thread suggested "bUSD", "bGLD", etc. which works well too IMO.
